Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 36: Chapter 35: Do You Seriously Have the Yin Yang Eye?

Thinking about the two hundred thousand bounty, Lu Li’s mind became active.

He casually probed for information, ”What’s going on exactly? If it’s confidential, don’t tell me.”

”There’s nothing confidential about it; the whole town is talking about it.”

Wang Yu swallowed the food in his mouth, put down his chopsticks, and said seriously: ”This morning, just as we started work, a person who went fishing in the morning called to report that they saw some human remains near the Grand Canal by the cemetery. We rushed over there, and besides finding many dismembered body parts along the shore, we also discovered Zhai Million’s severed head near the big locust tree close to the riverbank. That’s roughly how it went down, and after that, the city criminal investigation team took over, and it was no longer our business.”

Lu Li blinked and asked, ”Was that the primary crime scene over there?”

Wang Yu shook his head and said, ”Preliminary judgment: no, it’s not even considered the first dumping site. We didn’t find any traces of the culprit or figure out how these body parts appeared there. It’s eerie, as if the parts just appeared out of thin air.”

It seems that the case is quite tricky.

Lu Li clicked his tongue, ”No clues at all?”

Wang Yu took a sip of beer, ”I don’t know if the city criminal investigation team has any clues, but we certainly don’t. However, it is certain that Zhai Million died after four o’clock yesterday afternoon, because someone saw him buy cigarettes in town before four.”

He was murdered last night, and the body was quickly dismembered and dumped?

Not to be crude, but it takes a lot of time to butcher even a pig, let alone a lively person.

The main thing is that the murderer dismembered Zhai Million.

Lu Li thought that the person who did this must be very knowledgeable about slaughtering.

Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been possible to dismember the corpse so quickly and dump it overnight.

Thinking of this, he asked, ”Wang Yu, could you take me to the scene to have a look?”

Wang Yu was just about to pop a peanut into his mouth, paused, and said with a speechless expression, ”You can’t possibly be tempted by that two hundred thousand bounty, right?”

Lu Li smiled, ”I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted, but I’m more interested in the case itself.”

Wang Yu shook his head like a cartwheel, ”Being interested is useless. There’s nothing to see without a single clue, and I’ve been hungry all day. I don’t want to run around anymore.”

Lu Li knew it was crucial to convince Wang Yu to go with him now.

It wasn’t just about persuading him to go to the scene with him.

The more critical part was to get him to cooperate with him, which was the only way to have a chance of solving the case.

And to make him cooperate, he had to convince him that he could solve this murder case.

Lu Li organized his words, ”Old Wang, if I told you I could crack this case, would you... believe me?”

Wang Yu paused with his cup in hand, laughed, and said, ”You sound so believable, but even the city’s criminal investigation team doesn’t have the slightest clue yet. It’s not that I look down on you, but just with what you’ve got?”

Lu Li deliberately provoked him, ”Hey, you’re underestimating me. My hot temper is coming. How about this: I’ll make a bet with you. If you accompany me on a trip and I can’t crack the case, I’ll lose a thousand yuan to you. But if I crack the case, I won’t ask for a thousand from you. You just need to lose a humiliating one-yuan coin to me. I’ll frame it and embarrass you every time I see you. How about it, dare to bet with me?”

Wang Yu, still young, couldn’t take the provocation.

He immediately said, ”Fine, those are your words. If I accompany you and you can’t crack the case, you owe me a thousand bucks.”

Lu Li snapped his fingers, ”No problem.”

Wang Yu stopped eating and stood up immediately, ”Let’s go; we’re going to the scene now.”

Lu Li smiled slightly, got him.

He watched as Wang Yu paid the small restaurant’s owner and thought to himself, young people are indeed easy to provoke.

As long as Wang Yu is willing to accompany him, there’s a seventy to eighty percent chance this case will be solved.

Why is Lu Li so confident?

If he couldn’t determine Zhai Million’s time of death, or if it had been too long since his death, he could only sigh at the two hundred thousand bounty.

After all, with too much time elapsed since the murder, gathering evidence would be very difficult.

However, with a short time since the murder, some evidence would definitely have been left behind.

Such evidence, which may require numerous resources and advanced instruments for the criminal investigation team to gather, might be impossible for them to find.

But Lu Li is different.

He has clairvoyant eyes and a super sense of smell.

As long as he searches carefully, he can definitely find evidence faster than the criminal investigation team and discover more.

This is why he’s somewhat confident he can gather evidence.

Of course, if he can’t collect any, it’s no big deal.

At most, he’ll lose a thousand yuan to Wang Yu.

After all, the lottery or welfare lottery will foot this bill for him.

...

Lu Li drove.

Under Wang Yu’s guidance.

They came near the cemetery by the Grand Canal.

He found an open spot by the roadside to park the car.

Wang Yu, seated in the passenger seat, pointed at the area cordoned off with police tape ahead, ”That’s where they found the dismembered body. They’re guarding the site to preserve it, you see, someone’s watching over there.”

Lu Li had already noticed two officers crouching there, guarding the scene, aware that they couldn’t get inside.

He thought for a moment, ”Just point to one of the spots where the body parts were found.”

Wang Yu, not knowing what he intended, pointed at a large locust tree near the Grand Canal, ”Zhai Million’s severed head was right under that locust tree at the time.”

”Hmm, let me take a look.”

Lu Li used his eyesight to look as far as possible.

Fortunately, the terrain here was elevated, providing a clear view of the situation below.

Wang Yu was baffled, thinking, it’s dozens of meters away; what can you see?

Little did he know, a week ago, Lu Li could clearly see things two to three hundred meters away. Now, after a week, his vision had improved, allowing him to see four to five hundred meters away.

Though it was just nightfall, affecting Lu Li’s sight.

But he could still vaguely see faint bloodstains under the locust tree.

Without hesitation, Lu Li activated his super sense of smell and sniffed the blood scent.

For an ordinary person, even at close range, it’s estimated they could only distinguish the scent of blood, unable to differentiate the different scents of blood from different people.

Lu Li can distinguish.

Since he wanted to develop the function of seeing scents with his nose, opening up super sense of smell, his sense of smell has become exceptionally sharp. Even the slightest difference can be detected.

Therefore, if there are two different people’s blood placed in front of him, he can distinguish them at once.

He silently memorized the scent of Zhai Million’s blood.

Lu Li began searching the vicinity for similar scents.

Most similar scents are within the police line.

Only a few are in other places.

Lu Li’s gaze wandered towards the east, sniffing carefully a few times.

Wang Yu looked at Lu Li sniffing around like a dog and jokingly said with a cheeky smile, ”You really look a bit like a police dog like this.”

Lu Li: ”...”

Damn it!

Is that a comparison you would make?

He rolled his eyes at the other person.

Lu Li opened the car door and walked towards the east, ”Follow me.”

Wang Yu also got out of the car, following him with curiosity, ”Where are we going?”

Lu Li didn’t explain in detail, ”You’ll know if you follow me.”

Wang Yu responded with an ”Oh.”

Soon, the two of them arrived at the riverbank more than a hundred meters east of the police line.

Lu Li went to the riverside, carefully squatting down.

He casually picked up a twig nearby, drawing a small circle in the mud, ”Later, let the criminal police squad come here and spray some of that fluorescent stuff that can detect blood.”

Wang Yu, being a policeman, was quite professional and immediately blurted out a term, ”You’re talking about luminol and trigger solution, right?”

Lu Li chuckled, ”How would I know what it’s called? I just remember seeing something like that in Hong Kong films. Get someone to spray the fluorescent stuff here, and there will definitely be results.”

Wang Yu didn’t believe it at all, teasing, ”Old Lu, come on, do you really think you have eagle eyes, able to spot bloodstains with just a glance? Why can’t I see anything?”

Lu Li thought to himself, you don’t have x-ray vision and super sense of smell, and you still want to see?

He made up an excuse, ”I don’t have eagle eyes, but I do have Yin Yang Eye.”

”Hahaha, you’re hilarious.” Wang Yu laughed until his stomach hurt, ”What era are we in? Still with the Yin Yang Eye? Can you not be superstitious?”

Lu Li didn’t bother explaining to him.

He continued walking towards the east.

Wang Yu followed behind, asking, ”What exactly are you looking for?”

Lu Li said, ”Didn’t I just tell you? Bloodstains.”

Wang Yu: ”...”

They had walked more than two hundred meters further.

Lu Li squatted down again to carefully observe and sniff his nose.

Wang Yu joked, ”Great sage, do you want luminol and trigger solution sprayed here too?”

Lu Li confirmed, ”Yes.”

With that, the two of them continued eastward.

They walked several kilometers, three or four maybe.

During this time, every so often, Lu Li would squat down to carefully observe and sniff his nose.

Initially, the stops were fairly close together.

Generally between one to two hundred and two to three hundred meters.

As they walked further, Lu Li stopped less frequently, and the distances between each stop grew longer.

The last stop was about a kilometer away from the previous one.

During this time, Wang Yu kept teasing him.

Lu Li didn’t respond at all.

His face was full of confusion, seemingly unable to figure something out.

Finally, the two of them reached a bridge near the cemetery, three to four kilometers away.

Originally still displaying a face full of confusion, Lu Li suddenly looked up, and the whole person seemed to understand everything.

Lu Li said, ”Let’s go take a look at the bridge.”

Wang Yu’s legs were sore from walking, ”Why can’t you just give up? Alright, I’ll visit the bridge with you one last time. Mind you, if you can’t find solid evidence on the bridge, I’m done, I won’t accompany you any further.”

Lu Li agreed, ”Alright.”

Upon reaching the bridge,

Lu Li immediately pointed to the middle of the western side railing, ”Turn on your phone flashlight, lean over and have a look, there should be a drop of blood nearby.”

Wang Yu asked, ”What am I looking for?”

Lu Li replied lightly, ”Evidence, I see a drop of blood stuck to the outside of the bridge railing.”

”Fine, I’ll listen to you one last time. After this, no more of your nonsense. Let’s head back home and look for mummy,” Wang Yu said.

To win a thousand yuan, Wang Yu actually lay down on the bridge, sticking his head through the railing, and he joked, ”If there really is blood here, I’ll eat this bridge...”

He didn’t finish his sentence.

Suddenly, he exclaimed, ”What the—.”

Wang Yu turned his head sharply, staring in shock.

Lu Li asked with a wry smile, ”What’s wrong?”

Wang Yu couldn’t help but draw a breath of cold air, ”Do you really have a Yin Yang Eye?”
