Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Blessing in Disguise

Ah?

Not firing me, and still want to promote me?

Most importantly, speaking with me in a consultative tone?

Lu Li was a bit bewildered at the moment, not expecting the other party’s attitude to change so quickly.

President Liu seemed to notice his doubt and continued speaking to himself, ”Live streaming sales is currently one of the main development directions I’ve been managing for this company, and setting up company-specific live streaming rooms on various platforms is of utmost importance.”

Lu Li knew the other party hadn’t finished speaking, so he didn’t say anything and just quietly listened.

As expected, President Liu continued, ”However, I haven’t decided on the right person to manage the live streaming sales. Manager Wang is qualified as the manager of the e-commerce sales department, but he’s a bit older, and I worry he might not keep up with the trends of the younger generation, so he’s been temporarily excluded.”

Lu Li continued listening intently.

President Liu took a sip of coffee from a Mark cup.

She put down the cup and said, ”Deputy Manager Zhang is relatively younger, but her work ability is not particularly outstanding. I inquired some of the company’s senior management privately, and they said Deputy Manager Zhang sometimes lets emotions interfere, not being calm enough. Hence, I feel her chances of successfully leading the live streaming sales are not that high.”

This excluded both the department manager and the deputy manager as candidates.

Lu Li vaguely picked up on something.

He tentatively asked, ”President Liu, do you mean...”

President Liu gently nodded, ”Yes, it’s you.”

Lu Li felt a bit surreal.

He’d only been with the company for more than a month and was still a trainee.

To actually be personally promoted by the new president to become the project team leader?

Although he knew that unlocking his genetic potential made him care less about this job.

However, hearing the new president appreciate him and wanting to promote him to lead the project team, Lu Li was still very tempted.

Somewhat puzzled, he asked, ”President Liu, may I ask, why me?”

President Liu clasped her hands together, her gaze unusually solemn, and said, ”Because what you just said really resonated with me. I hope everyone in the company can be on the same wavelength with me, and so far, you’re the only one I’ve seen.”

Whoa!

So that’s how it is!

Lu Li thought to himself, the things I said just now obviously resonated with you, considering I was peeking at your files with my see-through ability.

President Liu once again earnestly requested, ”So... Lu Li, please stay and help me, okay?”

It was evident that she was different from other senior company officials, not just imposing authority but also giving Lu Li adequate respect.

Being asked to stay by a beautiful lady, especially one from the company’s top management, in such a pleading tone, was quite satisfying for Lu Li.

Besides, Lu Li didn’t want to take odd jobs and be exposed to the elements.

Seeing her sincerity, his stubbornness diminished considerably.

Lu Li nodded and said, ”Alright, thank you, President Liu, for your appreciation.”

President Liu beamed a bright smile, ”Having an excellent employee like you is the company’s honor. I’ll inform HR, and you can proceed with the promotion procedures.”

Lu Li was about to agree, but considering his inexperience and the pressure of leading a project, he felt a bit hesitant.

He thought for a moment and weakly said, ”President Liu, I’m so young, I might not earn the respect of others, right?”

President Liu said boldly, ”Respect? With me backing you, who dare not show respect? You go ahead and work boldly. If you encounter anyone who doesn’t respect you, whether it’s Manager Wang, Deputy Manager Zhang, or anyone else, just report to me, and I’ll make sure they truly respect you!”

Her words were incredibly persuasive.

Originally a bit afraid of not being able to take on the role, Lu Li instantly felt invigorated and said, ”Okay, President Liu, I will definitely work hard!”

President Liu showed a satisfied expression, ”Alright, it’s settled then. In the upcoming days, work some extra hours, and I’ll have someone discuss thoroughly with you about setting up live streaming rooms on various platforms.”

Overtime?

Does that mean I can enjoy an extra meal at work?

Lu Li was running out of money these days, barely affording meals.

Now, hearing President Liu asking him to work overtime was like solving his financial struggle instantly.

Great!

The see-through ability really came in handy this time!

Suddenly, Lu Li felt in great spirits and expressed some heartful gratitude before getting up to leave.

Before leaving, President Liu tried to win him over, ”Since I’m entrusting you with the live streaming sales project, your salary obviously can’t remain the same as before. I’ll talk to HR later about promoting you and adjusting your contract accordingly. HR will discuss the details, but rest assured it will match your responsibilities.”

An increase in salary?

Lu Li felt even better, ”Thank you, President Liu.”

The balance of both grace and power is essential for competent management.

After promising benefits to Lu Li, President Liu soon followed with a warning, ”You also need to live up to the salary I’m giving you. Let me make it clear, if the live streaming sales work is not done well, I won’t hesitate to kick you out of the project, or even... terminate your employment!”

As long as I can get through this week, and the salary is credited, who cares about this lousy job anyway?

Thoughts raced through Lu Li’s mind.

Of course, he wouldn’t say this aloud, ”President Liu, rest assured, if my work performance is poor, you don’t have to fire me; I’ll resign myself.”

Hearing his assurance, President Liu was even more pleased, ”I like your attitude, good. Head back to your department and wait for a call. HR will contact you once the new contract is ready.”

Lu Li quickly replied, ”Alright, President Liu, I’ll head back then.”

”Mm.” President Liu waved her hand.

Without saying anything else, Lu Li left the office in high spirits.

Who would’ve thought President Liu’s voice would call out behind him, ”Oh, Lu Li.”

Lu Li, who had already reached the door, turned around, ”President Liu, is there anything else?”

President Liu, holding her Mark cup, looked him up and down, ”Since you’re going to be in charge of the live streaming sales project, please pay attention to your attire. I know you young people might prefer a hip-hop style, but within the company, be mindful of your image, and try not to dress like this in the future.”

Hip-hop style?

Lu Li glanced at his own loose clothing, thinking, it’s because I’ve lost weight, and the clothes don’t fit. I don’t have money for new clothes, so I have to make do, not because of any hip-hop style.

Since the president mentioned it, Lu Li certainly wouldn’t refute.

He mumbled a vague ”Mm” in response.

Exiting the office, Lu Li noticed two or three colleagues from other departments outside with expectant expressions.

”Sigh.”

”This time, probably in trouble.”

Those two or three people were still sighing softly.

Lu Li knew these people were definitely caught as examples by President Liu, and there was an estimated seven or eight out of ten chance they’d be fired.

Originally, I would have been the same.

But unexpectedly, relying on the miraculous ability of a one-millimeter X-ray vision not only turned the tables, but also made President Liu actively request me to stay and work, and even promoted and gave me a raise.

I must say, this one-millimeter X-ray vision is really handy, resolving my crisis of getting fired.

However, how exactly to make money with this one-millimeter X-ray vision?

Lu Li hadn’t thought it through yet.

But today, since I discovered the one-millimeter X-ray vision could have such a miraculous effect, it definitely can also be used to make money.

Thinking this, he headed towards the elevator.

...

Back to the second floor.

Just arrived at the department entrance.

Lu Li heard the colleagues inside sighing.

”Sigh, Xiaolu is really pitiful.”

”Yeah, just over a month in the company and going to be fired.”

”I quite like this kid, really diligent when working.”

Xiaomei, Xiaoqing, Brother Cheng, and others were chatting.

On the other hand, there was no sign of Manager Wang and Deputy Manager Zhang, probably in their offices.

Lu Li found it amusing hearing everyone thought he was getting fired, thinking to himself, you guys have no idea, bros got noticed by President Liu, and is about to become the project team leader.

If everyone knew this news, they would definitely be very surprised, right?

Lu Li wasn’t ready to reveal this news to everyone just yet.

After all, it’s not officially effective yet. What if President Liu goes back on his words, then I’d be so embarrassed.

Walking into the office area.

Lu Li greeted his mentor at work: ”Brother Cheng.”

”Xiaolu’s back, everyone don’t mention the firing thing, to avoid making him sad.”

Brother Cheng lowered his voice and instructed everyone, then turned his head with a welcoming smile: ”Xiaolu, you’re back?”

Xiaomei, Xiaoqing, and others all looked over with eyes full of sympathy.

Lu Li sat back at his place, turning on his computer with a smile as he replied: ”Yeah, I’m back.”

Everyone saw him turning on his computer, and couldn’t help but glance at each other.

Didn’t Manager Wang just say that President Liu wanted to fire Lu Li?

Why is this guy turning on his computer, like he’s ready to continue working?

No one understood what had happened.

Xiaomei, really curious, couldn’t help but ask, ”Xiaolu, what did President Liu call you over to talk about?”

Brother Cheng, Xiaoqing, and a dozen others in the office all perked up their ears, wanting to hear what Lu Li would say.

By this time, the computer had booted up.

Lu Li held the mouse, clicked on a document, and casually replied: ”Oh, didn’t say much, just chatted a bit, told me to work hard and stuff.”

No way!

Manager Wang just said that President Liu called you over to fire you!

Everyone seemed more confused.

Each silently speculated in their hearts what exactly President Liu had said to Lu Li.

Some even thought Lu Li couldn’t handle the shock of being fired and went crazy, so he’s staying here and not leaving.

Soon, half an hour passed.

Many people in the office, while distractedly working, were still pondering Lu Li’s situation.

Just then, Manager Wang suddenly came out of the office.

He looked at Lu Li with a peculiar expression, and called out: ”Xiaolu, HR wants you to go over.”

Lu Li, who was editing a document, quickly stood up, ”Alright, I’ll go over right away.”

Oh!

This time it must be to go handle the leaving procedures!

Everyone suddenly came to their senses, thinking leaving indeed takes time, Lu Li must have been waiting for HR to finish up and then go handle the leaving procedures.

But Lu Li simply left directly.

Brother Cheng couldn’t help sighing: ”Sigh, Xiaolu still couldn’t escape the fate of being fired after all.”

Xiaomei, Xiaoqing, and a dozen others heard him and felt quite nostalgic.

After all, everyone got along for over a month, there was some level of connection.

Manager Wang, who was about to retreat into the office, heard Brother Cheng’s words and immediately said grumpily: ”Fired? This kid doesn’t know what kind of dumb luck he’s had; President Liu wants to promote him to be a leader!”

With those words, the entire office fell silent.

Everyone, all of a sudden, looked at Manager Wang.

What?

Lu Li wasn’t fired, but instead got President Liu’s recognition and is going to be promoted to leadership?

Upon hearing this, everyone was bewildered.

They really couldn’t believe the information Manager Wang shared.

How could it be possible?

This kid has only been in the company for just over a month and is already becoming a leader?

Some of them have been at the company for seven or eight years and are still ordinary employees.

In an instant, some who originally felt sympathy for Lu Li were filled with jealousy.

Some even couldn’t help but curse inwardly: this guy is really damn lucky, actually getting recognized by President Liu!
