Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 143: Chapter 126: Spatial Energy

The completion progress for the Gray Bean Dove to Sky Escape Eagle evolution method was only at ninety percent. This progress both surprised and pleased Li Qian.

He was surprised because the completion rate was ridiculously low, and pleased because the Sky Escape Eagle’s evolutionary Potential was considerable, leaving a lot of room for improvement.

All in all, Li Qian was very satisfied with the evolution data he had obtained from Professor Yan.

’After all, sharing the evolution data won’t make my copy disappear, and gaining an extra set is a tangible benefit.’

Li Qian knew how to do such simple math.

After receiving the evolution data from Professor Yan, Li Qian closed his eyes and sank into thought. This evolution path was flawed and incomplete. For him, there was only one task now: to fix the flaws and make the evolution whole.

’Professor Yan and his team must have discussed and researched this to some extent.’ Thinking of this, Li Qian didn’t hesitate and asked directly, ”Professor Yan, I’ve briefly looked over the data. Just as you said, this evolution path is flawed and incomplete. I was wondering if you and your team have given it any thought?”

The evolution path was flawed, but Li Qian had no immediate clue as to where the defects lay.

So, he turned his attention to Professor Yan. Li Qian didn’t believe they hadn’t considered this problem.

As it turned out, his guess was correct. Professor Yan nodded after hearing his question and replied, ”We have indeed thought about it. Not just me, but my team as well.”

Li Qian didn’t interrupt, assuming a posture of respectful attention.

Professor Yan sighed, then said with a hint of resignation, ”According to the laws of evolution, under normal circumstances, a Pet Beast may gain new attributes after evolving, but it’s highly unlikely for its inherent attributes to disappear.”

”Starting from this point, we believe that the Sky Escape Eagle having only the Spatial Attribute is a flaw. Or rather, that this is only one of its possible Evolutionary Forms.”

”And the factor causing its Wind Attribute to disappear is very likely the key reason this evolution path is incomplete.”

Li Qian nodded in agreement after hearing this explanation, then subconsciously followed up, ”So, what exactly is that key reason?”

Faced with Li Qian’s follow-up question, Professor Yan gave an embarrassed laugh. ”Well... we haven’t figured that out either...”

Hearing this, the corner of Li Qian’s mouth twitched almost imperceptibly.

’You sounded so sure of yourself just now, I thought you already had some ideas and insights. Turns out it was all just empty talk.’

Li Qian could have come to the same conclusion himself with just a little thought.

The most crucial part was finding the reason for the loss of the Wind Attribute, and in that regard, Professor Yan had come up with nothing.

Showing no obvious change in emotion, he continued to ask, ”Then what’s the second point?”

Li Qian hoped this second point could offer him some inspiration, and not just another ambiguous guess.

Professor Yan didn’t hesitate, directly sharing his and his team’s speculation. ”The second point should be related to the Teleportation Array.”

”The Teleportation Array is likely just a means to an end. The fundamental purpose of using it is probably to let the Pet Beast come into contact with space, and even to facilitate the Absorption of Spatial Energy.”

”However, the Spatial Energy within a Space Transmission Array is extremely unstable, even when carrying a Void Stone.”

Hearing this, Li Qian was noncommittal. ”So you believe this is the second reason for the evolutionary flaw?”

The moment the words left Li Qian’s mouth, a prompt suddenly sounded in his mind.

[Inspiration Value +1]

[Current Task Progress: 91%]

”Hearing” the prompt in his mind, Li Qian’s expression didn’t change, but a wave of joy washed over him internally.

’Finally, some progress.’

Moreover, this at least proved one thing: Spatial Energy was definitely one of the reasons for the incomplete evolution. As for how to complete it, Li Qian was still completely in the dark.

Even though the task progress had already reached 91%, after going through this twice before, Li Qian was very clear about one thing.

The further along the task was, the slower the progress would be. He might even encounter situations where he felt he’d made a huge breakthrough, only for the progress to increase by a mere one or two points.

He chatted with Professor Yan for a while longer, but after realizing there was nothing more to be gained, Li Qian ended the conversation and began to think on his own.

If there was an evolution method for the Gray Bean Dove with even greater Potential than the Sky Escape Eagle, its value would be immeasurable. Such research was destined to take more than a short while to complete.

So, with the task progress stuck at 91% and no other leads for the time being, Li Qian wasn’t anxious. He continued his studies and research at his own unhurried pace.

Li Qian believed that with the strange power of his Golden Finger, and with the help of Inspiration Value to discern the right research direction, the task progress would definitely advance in an orderly manner.

So there was no need for him to rush.

Professor Yan arrived at the Jiaoyang Cultivation Base and was quickly settled in thanks to the warm arrangements made by his mother, Han Yuqing.

He had originally come here to help his mother’s Gray Bean Dove evolve into a Sky Escape Eagle. Now that he had discovered how unreliable the evolution method was, Li Qian naturally wouldn’t use his own mother as a guinea pig.

So the matter was temporarily put on hold.

They had already been delayed for so long, a little more wasted time didn’t matter.

Besides that, there was another reason Professor Yan had come here. Although it wasn’t spoken aloud, it was as clear as day to Li Qian.

He was here to take over Elder Tie’s position and continue protecting Li Qian.

Although Professor Yan was only a Breeder, his strength and Level had already reached the Dominator Level. Guarding Li Qian’s personal safety would certainly be no problem at all.

「A week passed in the blink of an eye.」

As his graduation date approached, Li Qian gradually sensed a change in the atmosphere.

Before, classmates would occasionally be shooting the breeze and talking crap in the class group chat. Now, it was completely silent. Li Qian guessed that everyone was probably using the time for a final sprint.

During this period, some people also visited the Cultivation Base. The first was Chu Xiran. After arriving, she wore a strange expression and asked Li Qian if he had heard any rumors, telling him not to believe them.

Li Qian shook his head decisively. ”I haven’t heard anything. Nothing at all.”

He knew what Teacher Chu Xiran wanted to talk about, but it was the kind of topic that was just too awkward to discuss. He might as well pretend he hadn’t heard a thing and knew nothing.

Seeing this, Chu Xiran didn’t press the matter and got down to business. ”You’ve already awakened your Beast Taming Space, your Power Level has even reached the Elite Level, and you’ve already formed a contract with a Pet Beast. Logically speaking, you don’t need another Pet Beast. However, according to the rules, you are still eligible to receive one from the school...”
