A Sorcerer’s Journey

Chapter 870: Chapter 863: Night Sacrifice (Priest)

Screech!

When a crossbow bolt, burning with fire oil, pierced through the round belly of a five-meter-tall Chaos Demon, the burning oil splattered and covered its entire body. The demon let out a painful howl, and the chaotic flames at the tip of its horn flickered unstably, gradually extinguishing.

Rumble, rumble, rumble...

However, soon this Chaos Demon was trampled and engulfed by the tidal wave of the Chaos Demon army behind it. The sound of their excited panting, their tattered clothes, as they pushed and shoved their way towards the Xerxes Mountain Range continued endlessly.

”Hehehehe, conquer the Temple of Night, enslave the Catpeople Tribe. I want to sleep with fifteen, eat one every day...”

Amidst the savage, excited roars of the Chaos Demon World.

In the sky, catapults occasionally launched flaming boulders, tearing through the sky with a ”boom” and crashing down, while a rain of arrows covered the heavens.

On the ground, enormous boulders and logs continuously rolled down from the heights of the Xerxes Mountains. The methods that dealt with low-level creatures in the ordinary world were no longer effective on this battlefield filled with First and Second Level creatures. However, under the reinforcement of the massive Gravity of the Earth Vein World, any creature below the Holy Realm without the ability to fly was facing a nightmare.

Numerous casualties occurred as the front line of Chaos Demons fell one after another.

Nonetheless, the army of nearly a million Chaos Demons continued to advance relentlessly, drawing ever closer to the foot of the Xerxes Mountain Range, where the Catpeople who hid behind wooden barricade defenses were trembling.

Typically standing between one meter fifty and one meter seventy, daggers and crossbows are the most common weapons among the Catpeople. Some male Catpeople warriors, unseasoned in the trials of war, could barely hold their daggers steadily. The Continent of the Gods had gone too long without a war of such magnitude. Protected by the Goddess of Night, these Catpeople had long forgotten the horrors of ancient battles and began to fear bloodshed.

The Catpeople Tribe is a matriarchal society. If not for the Goddess of Night personally delivering a Divine Decree for this war, how would these lowly male Cat slaves ever have the right to wield weapons and step onto the battlefield?

At this moment, seeing the performance of these male Catpeople, some elite female Catpeople couldn’t help but curl their lips and snort coldly.

”As expected, they are merely a bunch of useless creatures meant for room cleaning, feeding livestock, and breeding. Well, no matter, they’re just cannon fodder anyway to at least slow down the steps of these Chaos Demon armies for the Temple of Night.”

A Temple Priest, shrouded in a faint Divine Power of the Night, spoke coldly, surveying the battlefield disdainfully.

In the Continent of the Gods, every Temple Priest is not to be underestimated.

With meticulous preparation, the Xerxes Mountain Range had long been woven into a trap by the Catpeople Tribe. Even male Catpeople were armed and sent to the battlefield. Even though this army of nearly a million Chaos Demons was numerous, it was not easy to take down the defenses and destroy the source of faith for the Temple of the Night quickly.

Enough time for the great Goddess of the Night and that evil Bloodthirsty Demon King to...

No!

When this Catperson priest’s gaze skipped over the chaotic battlefield at the foot of the mountain and looked into the distant sky, their heart suddenly trembled—it’s the Holy Realm Chaos Demons!

These rapidly flying Holy Realm Demons, numbering over one thousand seven hundred, were coming.

Such a large number of Holy Realms, other than the Overseas Dragon God, even those major divine temples with deep foundations could hardly gather such numbers in a short time after the ancient wars. Yet, among this army of invading Chaos Demons on the Continent of the Gods, Holy Realms were as numerous as ants.

Just one of the Chaos Demon Lord’s capable subordinates, the Bloodthirsty Demon King, easily assembled such a quantity.

Compared to this number of Holy Realm Demons, the mere three hundred or so Holy Realms in the Xerxes Mountain Range appeared overwhelmingly inadequate.

Not to mention, among these so-called three hundred Holy Realms, there were more than a hundred Temple Priests, and dozens of existences that the Goddess of Night had gathered with high costs temporarily from around the Xerxes Mountain Range.

Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz...

The massive Holy Realm Chaos Demons flew in like a covering sky, something to fear for others. However, for the Temple Priests who offered everything, even their soul and life to the Temple of Night, there was no hesitation. They met the charge with thousands of massive siege crossbow bolts from the hillside, drawing endless Divine Power of the Night from the temple.

The morning prayers, the midday hymns, the evening mass—these priests were fanatics willing to give everything for the Goddess of Night.

”For the Goddess of Night!”

”For the Catpeople Tribe!”

”For the peace of the Xerxes Mountain Range!”

Other Holy Realms, led by these priests, had no chance to retreat temporarily. They could only roar in unison and charge at the different sizes of Holy Realm Chaos Demons scattered from above, colliding fiercely.

The Divine Power of the Night gathered in their hands, forming a quiet dagger that merged with the night, emitting a faint divinity. Utilizing Divine Power beyond the level they prayed and offered, this Temple Priest’s skin began to show withered and mottled spots, evidently burning their life force.

”Light of the Night Deity!”

With a slight ”puff” sound, the dagger flashed and pierced into the Holy Realm Chaos Demon’s chest in battle.

The towering Holy Realm Demon, over ten meters tall, struggled desperately to pull out the peculiar dagger that emitted endless divine power from its chest, but to no avail. Its body strength rapidly diminished, its skin began to dissipate like ashes under the tearing purification of the night rules.

Roar...

A sorrowful howl, the Chaos Demon fell towards the earth, the chaotic flames burning fiercely atop its double horns, forming a self-collapsing energy sphere that emitted an astonishing wave of energy and disappeared instantly—an unseen Power of Chaos in the Continent of the Gods before.

Boom, boom, boom!

Even under the protection of the Divine Power of the Night, the Temple Priest was still significantly affected, with blood trickling from the corner of their mouth. The dagger consolidated from Divine Power was clearly less divine than before.

”For the Goddess of Night...”

Just after a brief prayer, a flaming sword shot over from afar, bringing intense chaotic flames and pressure from a Holy Realm Demon even stronger than the one that just fell to the earth.

In a panic, the dagger blocked, narrowly avoiding the flaming sword, but suffered some injuries. The dagger of divine power diminished in divinity, and their skin was covered with aging, withered lines.

”Ugh...”

Suddenly, a sharp pain in the back caused the Temple Priest to turn around in disbelief.

A Holy Realm imp, about twenty centimeters in height, snickered excitedly while holding a heart, with the priest’s strength rapidly draining away.

Relying on divine power, while their offensive and defensive capabilities might temporarily surpass some Third-Level Creatures, ultimately, it was borrowed power and couldn’t change the essence of life.

”Crunch, yum... Delicious! So delicious! It even contains remnants of some Demon King’s power.”

The imp eagerly gobbled up the heart, devouring it ravenously, its face smeared with blood, looking grotesquely frightening.

This was merely a corner of the sky where the Temple of the Night and the bloodthirsty Demon King’s Holy Realms capable of flight clashed. The Temple of the Night’s disadvantage was apparent, seen by the High Priest Herneao freshly saved by the Goddess of Night from the mountain top.

The old Catperson gazed at the many struggling Holy Realms in the sky, sensing the mighty clash of divine power between the Goddess of Night and the powerful Bloodthirsty Demon King above the distant clouds. Their aged hand gradually reached for the scepter.

”Deploy the Dragonhawk Squadron, at all costs, protect the Temple of Night.”
