The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: I’ll Give You a Monthly Salary of 1 Million

Zhang Yun admitted straightforwardly, ”That’s right. He wanted to sponsor me another million, but I refused.”

Ouyang Mingruo scoffed. ”HMPH! A million is way too little.”

”HAHA! It’s not that I think it’s too little, but I’m afraid he might try to mess with me. So I agreed. A million is fine—to buy my ginseng. I’ll get him a ginseng worth a million when the time comes.”

Zhang Yun’s words left Ouyang Mingruo speechless. ”A million? To mess with you? It seems that in your eyes, I’m not even worth a million?”

”I guessed it had to do with you. Does he mean to give me a million to leave you? TSK, TSK! This is straight out of a TV drama. How thrilling!”

”...”

Zhang Yun sighed. ”Unfortunately, I have no relationship with you whatsoever. I can’t earn this money against my conscience. If I don’t take the money, I’m afraid your dad will mess with me, so I can only make it a transaction.”

”Are you serious?” Ouyang Mingruo felt this guy was just too weird.

”Of course!”

Ouyang Mingruo couldn’t hold back anymore. ”You’re crazy! Do you know who my dad is?! You’re afraid he’ll mess with you if you take the money, and you’re afraid he’ll mess with you if you don’t. Do you think he’s some kind of psycho?”

Zhang Yun laughed. ”I don’t know him well. Who knows if he’s a psycho or not? The world is a sinister place; us innocent boys have to learn how to protect ourselves.”

”...”

”Now, begin your performance!” Zhang Yun raised his eyebrows.

”What performance?”

”You’re just going to ask me that? You should be saying, ’I’ll double it! Ignore him and stay by my side to pretend to be my boyfriend!’”

Zhang Yun’s words made Ouyang Mingruo massage her forehead in exasperation.

”I guessed right, didn’t I? It’s fine. Even though I would reject you too, you can still give it a try. HEHE, just in case, right?” Zhang Yun suggested with a smile.

Helplessly, Ouyang Mingruo repeated, ”I’ll double it. Ignore him and stay by my side to pretend to be my boyfriend, okay?”

”No way! How is that any different from being a live-in son-in-law? I’m not that kind of person.” Zhang Yun strictly refused. ”I am a motivated young man who abides by the core socialist values. How could I ever be corrupted by you capitalists?”

”You psycho!” Ouyang Mingruo was going a little crazy. ”You made me say it just so you could righteously reject me?!”

Zhang Yun chuckled. ”HEHE. Miss Mingruo, it’s not that you aren’t outstanding! It’s just that your big brother here is a man with ambitions...”

”PFFT!” Ouyang Mingruo raised her hand, about to hang up the call, but since they had finally managed to have a conversation, she held back. ”Stop talking nonsense! Let’s get down to business!”

Zhang Yun rolled his eyes dramatically. ”You’re the one talking nonsense. I’ve been telling you to get down to business this whole time.”

”I want to make a deal with you. I’ll pay to hire you as my boyfriend for three months. Your transaction with my dad is about ginseng; it won’t conflict with mine.”

Zhang Yun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Do you have an issue with your reading comprehension or your memory? What did I just say?”

”I’m not asking you to be a live-in son-in-law. This is just a business transaction. If you don’t take my money, aren’t you afraid I’ll mess with you?” Ouyang Mingruo simply made the first offer herself. ”One million!”

Zhang Yun’s eyes widened. He thought, ”A million? Who is she looking down on?!”

”Your big brother here will be bringing in a million Ming Tians, and you want me to accompany you for three months?”

”Monthly salary!”

The words of refusal on the tip of Zhang Yun’s tongue were instantly choked back.

A monthly salary of a million was a completely different story! He could easily grow centennial ginseng anytime he wanted, but the market was too small. How many people in the entire county would be willing to spend a million on a single ginseng root?

Ouyang Mingruo was clearly a master negotiator. Taking in every change in Zhang Yun’s expression, she swiftly adjusted her plan. One million wasn’t enough. With a monthly salary added, was he still hesitating? Then she would up the ante!

”The perfect attendance bonus will be ten thousand a day. If you perform well, I can gift you a car. Naturally, it won’t be worth less than a million.”

Zhang Yun smiled wryly. ”Don’t do this, girl. My willpower isn’t strong enough, so don’t corrupt me... I’m afraid I won’t be able to resist giving in.”

Having money really meant one could do whatever they wanted! All her conditions added up to nearly five million. How could anyone refuse?

”Think about it. When the time comes, I’ll be responsible for all your food, clothing, housing, and transportation. Think about it. If you’re with me, would I make you eat at Shaxian County or international joints like KFC and McDonald’s? I wouldn’t make you wear Nike, Adidas, or Uniqlo either. When the time comes, you’ll experience international luxury brands you have and haven’t heard of, five-star hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants...”

Ouyang Mingruo enticed him with a smile, then added nonchalantly, ”It’s only three months. It’ll pass in a flash, and you won’t ever have to work hard again for the rest of your life.”

”You’re very impressive.” Zhang Yun sighed. ”I can’t always bear to splurge on KFC or McDonald’s, and I don’t buy Nike or Adidas often. We don’t even have Uniqlo around here. These tangible things you’re mentioning hit much closer to home and are far more visceral than just throwing five million at me.”

Ouyang Mingruo shrugged. ”If you like, I’ll buy you a family bucket every day. You can buy all the Nike and Adidas you want!”

”No! The more you tempt me, the more my heart wavers, and the firmer my rejection becomes!”

”Huh? What kind of logic is that!” Ouyang Mingruo furrowed her brows. Was this guy trying to play hard to get?

”The fact that someone like you, Miss Mingruo, is throwing money at me and patiently tempting me to agree just proves that this task is far from simple!” Zhang Yun shook his head resolutely. ”Money is great, but my life is more important!”

”Psycho! You have paranoia! Who wants your life? I just want your body!” Ouyang Mingruo was so angry that she laughed.

Zhang Yun retorted, ”Telling the truth now, aren’t we! You just want my body. HEHE, they say there are only exhausted oxen, but no ruined fields. I won’t fall for it!”

Ouyang Mingruo glared at him. ”What are you talking about?! What oxen and fields? I’ll beat you up! Hurry up, I’ll give you the address and reimburse you for the private car fare. Come report for duty immediately!”

”Thank you!” Zhang Yun thanked her earnestly.

”What are you thanking me for? Hurry over. Just treat it like going to work.”

Zhang Yun shook his head. ”No. I didn’t agree, and I’m not going.”

”You’ve got some nerve, Zhang Yun. You’re playing me!” Ouyang Mingruo’s beautiful eyes went wide.

”I was thanking you for thinking so highly of me. I’m quite proud that my looks and figure are worth five million. For a beautiful, fertile field like you, I’d willingly be an old ox worked to death...”

”In your dreams! Who’s going to let you plow their field?” Ouyang Mingruo snapped. But afraid that he wouldn’t agree, her eyes shifted, and she smiled charmingly. ”However... I might let you touch or lick my feet! If you want my stockings, I can give them to you too.”

”...” Zhang Yun almost choked. ”You’re the psycho! I’m not that kind of person, and I don’t have that kind of fetish!”

Speaking of which, his mind couldn’t help but conjure up the image of her beautiful legs and the charming sight of him helping her take off her stockings. His gaze wavered.

Ouyang Mingruo rolled her eyes at him. ”Look at your perverted expression. Just bringing it up makes you drool, yet you’re still pretending!”

Zhang Yun instinctively sucked in the corner of his mouth. He thought, ”Nonsense! What drool? Am I that kind of person?”

”Miss Ouyang, I know my own limits. I can’t play the role of your boyfriend. You business tycoons and wealthy families are worlds apart from me, I...”

Before Zhang Yun could finish, Ouyang Mingruo cut him off with a solemn expression. ”Someone is trying to kill me! I’m looking for you to save my life!”
