The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Car Crash Rescue

Zhang Yun had transplanted ten ginseng seedlings. Now, as soon as he entered, he saw that they had all grown to half a meter tall!

Artificially cultivated ginseng usually required a five- to six-year harvest period, during which the above-ground stems and leaves would only reach fifty to sixty centimeters. Did a single day and night produce the equivalent of five or six years’ growth?

Zhang Yun had seen people dig up wild ginseng since he was young. He had also seen transplanted wild ginseng and cultivated ginseng, though he was no expert. Moreover, this result completely exceeded his expectations, making it impossible for him to appraise the exact quality of these ginseng plants.

Since this ginseng was ready to be harvested, Zhang Yun lost the mood to eat any more Mysterious Petals. He simply dug up a ginseng root and hurried home with glee.

”Where did you run off to so early in the morning? Stay in the village these days and don’t go out, lest Li Bing and his goons find someone to beat you up!” Zhang Fu immediately started nagging upon seeing his son.

Zhang Yun chuckled. ”Dad, I dug up a huge ginseng root! I’m going to town later... No! I’m going to a large pharmacy in the county city to see how much I can sell it for!”

”Stop daydreaming!” Zhang Fu didn’t believe him at all. ”The old wild ginseng was dug up long ago. Do you think it’s just waiting for you?”

Zhang Yun pushed out his beat-up motorcycle, called out a goodbye, and headed out.

To reach the county city, he would have had to take a long detour via the main road to the national highway. Most people riding motorcycles preferred taking a shortcut over the mountain, riding alongside the expressway, which was much closer.

Zhang Yun wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but his senses felt much sharper. Handling the motorcycle came naturally to him, and even as he continuously sped up, he still felt completely steady.

”It’s a pity I have a spear but no opponent. I can’t even tell if I’ve gotten stronger... Holy crap!” Zhang Yun suddenly cried out in shock.

The dirt path ran below the expressway, and there was a sharp bend ahead. Just moments ago, a car had been sent flying off the road, suspended in the air before plummeting down!

CRASH!

The deafening sound of the impact made Zhang Yun slam on the brakes immediately.

”What is this...?” he thought.

Zhang Yun looked up and noticed that the vehicle responsible for the crash hadn’t stopped; it had accelerated and driven away! There were no other vehicles passing by at the moment. Since the car had been knocked off the expressway and fallen below, drivers passing by up top wouldn’t even know there had been an accident.

CLANG!

The fallen car shifted with another jolt, snapping Zhang Yun out of his daze. Was it going to explode? His mind immediately flashed to movies where people always had to dive forward before an explosion... Wait! There was someone inside the car!

Zhang Yun hurriedly jumped off the motorcycle and rushed over.

Damn! As soon as Zhang Yun got close, he felt a pang of heartache. It was a Maybach! Now it had flipped and fallen, smashed beyond recognition. Even though it wasn’t his, it still pained him to see it.

Uh... human lives were more important than cars. Zhang Yun quickly shifted his attention from the mangled Maybach to the inside of the vehicle. There was only a driver inside. Pinned by the airbag, the person had already fallen unconscious.

Zhang Yun had no rescue experience, and he was quite nervous, fearing the car might explode at any second. Fortunately, his strength had increased drastically, so the rescue process wasn’t too difficult.

After carrying the person far away and setting them down in the tall grass, Zhang Yun finally got a clear look. The driver of the Maybach was a young woman in her twenties, and she was breathtakingly beautiful! Even in her unconscious and unresponsive state, one glance was enough to leave him stunned.

”Good thing her face isn’t ruined. With a face and figure like this... it’d be a damn shame if she got a face full of glass shards,” Zhang Yun muttered to himself, trying to figure out how to get her to a hospital.

Riding the motorcycle along the dirt path would be extremely bumpy. She was unconscious and wouldn’t be able to sit steady. After some thought, Zhang Yun returned to the car to retrieve the beauty’s phone, grabbing her handbag along the way as well.

It didn’t have fingerprint unlock! And he couldn’t use facial recognition to unlock it while her eyes were closed! Using her phone to call for help was out of the question. Zhang Yun looked around. Even if he managed to make a call and her family had the resources to send a rescue team, who knew how long it would take for them to arrive? Even if he called for an ambulance, the nearest hospital’s vehicles wouldn’t be able to reach this remote spot.

Should he tie her to his back?

Just as this image formed in Zhang Yun’s mind, a massive boom erupted behind him!

”Holy crap! It exploded after all!” he thought.

Zhang Yun didn’t manage to dive forward like in the movies. With a severely injured person right in front of him, he instinctively threw himself over the female driver to shield her with his back, terrified that shrapnel might hit them.

The Maybach had exploded! No shrapnel reached Zhang Yun, and he didn’t feel the shockwave of the blast, but a wave of scorching heat quickly washed over them.

”Ugh...”

The beautiful female driver made a slight sound, likely awakened by the explosion. Zhang Yun immediately supported her neck and helped her sit up. ”Are you alright?”

”COUGH!” Without fully opening her eyes or speaking a word, the female driver spat out a mouthful of blood.

Sure enough, she had severe internal injuries! Zhang Yun had no choice but to abandon the idea of tying her to his back. After spitting blood, she passed out again. He couldn’t wait any longer; he had to get her to a hospital immediately! Zhang Yun quickly scooped her up into his arms. The beauty’s body was completely limp, and her chest was stained red with fresh blood. He had no idea how long she could hold on.

”I have to take this bag so no one steals it. And my ginseng... the ginseng!” he thought.

Thinking of the ginseng, Zhang Yun set her down again. He quickly grabbed the bag containing the ginseng and didn’t forget to pull the keys from his motorcycle.

Could she survive the trip to the hospital? Should he feed her a little ginseng? Ginseng could boost one’s vitality—commonly known as sustaining life—but Zhang Yun figured that usually meant boiling dried ginseng into a soup. Surely you wouldn’t just gnaw on a fresh ginseng root, right? Besides, she was unconscious right now. Let alone chewing on ginseng, she wouldn’t even be able to suck on a lollipop!

Zhang Yun immediately thought of the melt-in-the-mouth Mysterious Petals! They had a miraculous effect that even ginseng couldn’t match, but he couldn’t bear to part with them! The flower only had seven Mysterious Petals left. Who knew if it would ever bloom again?

Zhang Yun looked down at the female driver on the ground. Her stunning face looked even more pitiful with the fresh blood staining the corner of her mouth.

”Alright, for the sake of your good looks... uh, for the sake of a human life!” he thought.

Zhang Yun plucked a Mysterious Petal. He ate half of it himself and fed the other half to the injured beauty.

Even half a petal would strengthen her body in all aspects. While it might not heal her completely, it would definitely keep her alive until they reached the hospital. As for why he only fed her half, it wasn’t because Zhang Yun was stingy, but because he was afraid the intense heat would cause her to explode!

Carrying her in his arms as he hurried along, Zhang Yun once again felt a surge of explosive power!

She was a tall, long-legged beauty. Even with her slender waist, she had to weigh at least a hundred pounds. Yet, carrying her felt effortless, and he managed to keep her perfectly steady even while jogging.

However, the heat generated from absorbing the Mysterious Petal was unavoidable. Zhang Yun himself felt incredibly hot, and the beauty in his arms was practically burning up! Zhang Yun was experienced with this, and his body was stronger, so he could withstand half a petal. But this beauty was severely injured. It would be terrible if he saved her life only to end up frying her brain...

Feeling her body growing hotter and hotter through her clothes, and seeing her face flush bright red, Zhang Yun quickly followed the sound of flowing water to find a mountain stream.

Given her current condition, it wasn’t appropriate for Zhang Yun to toss her directly into the stream to soak. He could only place her on the bank, take off her shoes and socks, roll her skirt up past her knees, and submerge her legs from her feet up to her calves in the water.

While rolling up the hem of her skirt, he noticed she was wearing stockings. ”This... will affect heat dissipation, won’t it?” he thought.

Zhang Yun coughed dryly. ”I’m helping you cool down right now. I have to take off your stockings, but I don’t mean anything else by it. Since you’re not objecting, I’ll take that as your silent consent...”

With no time to lose, Zhang Yun quickly got to work.

”Ugh! Please don’t let these be pantyhose!” he thought.
