The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Helping You Teach Them a Lesson

”What are you trying to do?” Zhang Yun looked at him strangely.

Zhang Lifeng grew anxious. ”Don’t tell me you threw it away? Since the effects are that good, it’s not just useful for treating injuries—even a normal person...”

Zhang Yun interrupted with a smile, ”I ate it.”

”You... you just... ate it?” Zhang Lifeng felt a tightness in his chest. ”What a reckless waste!”

”Eating tens of thousands of yuan in one bite really is a waste. But I didn’t want it to rot and become worthless! Forget it, that woman only drank a little bit of its sap, so I won’t bother asking her family for money.”

Zhang Yun waved his hand and directly opened the door to leave.

Zhang Lifeng felt helpless. He had thought it might still be in the bag. Even if it was just the dregs, he would have taken it home to brew into a soup.

Now that he had money in hand, Zhang Yun left the hospital, ready to go shopping. First on the list: replacing his motorcycle!

Arriving at the dealership, however, he looked at the sleek, shiny bikes and immediately dismissed the idea. The battered old bike at home was actually better. He could ride it roughly through the fields and mountains; getting it covered in mud or scraped against rocks wouldn’t make his heart ache. If he bought a new one, would he only ride it on paved streets in town?

Besides a motorcycle, Zhang Yun couldn’t think of anything else he wanted at the moment. He decided he might as well buy something to honor his dad, considering how much he had frightened him yesterday. He would get some 53% ABV Feitian Moutai!

Zhang Yun wanted to get a famous liquor for his dad to drink, but after visiting several tobacco and liquor stores, he found the price was over three thousand yuan—and none of them had it in stock! On any other day, a 43% ABV Moutai or Wuliangye would have sufficed. But today, having just pocketed fifty thousand yuan, the money was burning a hole in his pocket. He absolutely had to satisfy this urge.

He quickly thought of someone: Zhang Lifeng! As Vice Director Zhang and an experienced traditional Chinese medicine doctor, wealthy bosses had surely gifted him premium cigarettes and top-tier liquor.

”Old Zhang!” Zhang Yun said in a voice message.

”I’m a bit busy right now, wait—”

”Get me two bottles of 53% ABV Feitian Moutai. Don’t tell me you don’t have any! You definitely do. Leave them at the hospital security room. I’ll pick them up later.”

”Mou... Moutai?”

Vice Director Zhang was thoroughly baffled by the sudden voice message. He thought Zhang Yun was going to meet the injured woman’s family, but instead, he was suddenly demanding Moutai?

Zhang Yun hung up right after speaking. Without giving the man a chance to refuse, he transferred eight thousand yuan over!

”This price is more than enough. If you feel bad about taking it, just throw in a few cartons of cigarettes.”

After leaving the message, Zhang Yun stopped worrying about it. Even if Zhang Lifeng didn’t drink, he could surely scrounge some up from the other hospital executives’ offices.

Since he had good liquor, he needed good food to go with it! Everyday meat, poultry, fish, and vegetables were plentiful in the village, even if he didn’t have them at home. Now that he was in the county town, he had to get something a little different.

Zhang Yun went to the farmers’ market and bought some pork and beef. He skipped the fish since they could just catch some from their own fish pond. However, feeling like something was still missing, he wandered over to the adjacent seafood market.

”Young man, want a softshell turtle? It’s a wild old turtle caught in the reservoir last night!” The vendor’s enthusiastic greeting instantly piqued Zhang Yun’s interest. This was it! Softshell turtles were said to be incredibly nourishing.

”How much?” Zhang Yun asked, looking at the many large basins of water filled with softshell turtles and regular turtles of various sizes.

”By the pound or by the piece, whichever you prefer. The smaller they are, the cheaper. These ones are eighty a piece. This one here is over a pound, two hundred each. This one’s two to three pounds, six hundred and sixty... But these two are different. They’re wild softshell turtles caught from the reservoir. One thousand yuan each, no bargaining!”

Zhang Yun wasn’t picky. ”Give me two!”

”Alright! Don’t let their size fool you, these really are wild old turtles. They’ve absorbed the essence of the reservoir and are extremely...”

Zhang Yun shook his head. ”I don’t want the wild ones. I want two of the smallest ones.”

A two-thousand-yuan deal had just turned into a one-hundred-and-sixty-yuan sale. The vendor’s excited expression instantly crumpled as he haphazardly grabbed two small turtles.

”Throw in a regular turtle for free. The smallest one is only worth a few bucks anyway,” Zhang Yun said.

The vendor bagged a small turtle for him, wearing a disgusted look that seemed to say, ”I knew you couldn’t afford the wild old turtles.”

Zhang Yun found it secretly amusing. It wasn’t that he doubted they were fake wild turtles; he simply didn’t need them! If he put these two small turtles into his Personal Space, wouldn’t they grow into wild old turtles by the time he got home?

After finishing his purchases, Zhang Yun found a secluded spot, entered his space, and stored all his items inside. He even made sure to feed the two softshell turtles a little of the water in there.

Afterward, he went to the fruit market and bought a selection of fruits he usually couldn’t bear to spend money on: Advanced Fuji apples, milk strawberries, Monthong durians, and more. He even bought a few avocados for his dad to try. Stashing everything away into his Personal Space, he returned to the hospital empty-handed.

Vice Director Zhang had tried to call Zhang Yun, but Zhang Yun hadn’t answered, refusing to give him a chance to decline.

The security guard on duty at the front gate—one of the men Zhang Yun had pinned to the ground earlier—hurried out to greet him the moment he saw him approaching.

”Um... this is what Dean Zhang left for you.”

Having been thoroughly ”convinced by virtue” after Zhang Yun’s beating, and seeing how the vice director treated him like a VIP, the security guard didn’t dare show the slightest bit of attitude.

Zhang Yun opened the package to take a look. Inside were two bottles of 53% ABV Feitian Moutai. Although he had no Experience with such things, he figured Zhang Lifeng wouldn’t dare give him fakes after taking his money. Additionally, the man had indeed thrown in a few cartons of cigarettes.

”Hongtashan, Furongwang... Tsk! Not even a single carton of Chunghwa. How stingy,” Zhang Yun grumbled. Seeing the security guard still standing nearby, he considered asking how that beauty’s treatment was going. But then he remembered that her family had an impressive background. They would definitely ensure she was fine, so there was no need for him to get involved and invite trouble.

”Tell Li Dabao he still owes me a meal.”

Zhang Yun left immediately after dropping that line, leaving the security guard completely bewildered. He wondered when their captain had ever owed this guy a meal.

Catching a ride and then walking along the mountain path, Zhang Yun returned to the scene of the car crash beneath the highway. He noticed that the traffic police had already been there; the exploded Maybach that had fallen off the cliff had been towed away. Fortunately, his locked, beat-up motorcycle had nothing to do with the accident and hadn’t been confiscated, allowing him to ride it the rest of the way home.

Zhang Yun hurried home in high spirits, only to find a car parked outside the courtyard.

”Dad! Do we have guests?”

Zhang Fu came out upon hearing his voice, and his face instantly turned green! He wondered what on earth this prodigal son had bought. The motorcycle was loaded front and back, completely draped with what looked like heaps of fruit, pork, and other groceries.

However, he didn’t have time to scold him. Stepping forward to help unload the bags, he quickly whispered, ”Li Dajiang is here.”

”Li Dajiang?” Zhang Yun recalled what Uncle Xi had mentioned last night. He was the boss of Dajiang Cement Plant and Li Bing’s biological uncle.

Zhang Yun unhurriedly walked into the living room and saw two people drinking tea. One was a middle-aged man who looked somewhat similar to Li Dahai, though his mental state appeared countless times better. The other was Uncle Xi. Since Zhang Yun’s dad was a simple, honest man who was terrible at arguing, they had obviously brought Uncle Xi along to help mediate the situation. Sitting in the corner was another man around thirty years old. His eyes were locked onto Zhang Yun, giving him a distinct sense of danger.

”Zhang Yun is back. This is Boss Li of Dajiang Cement Plant. He’s here to understand the situation,” Uncle Xi said with a dry, awkward laugh.

Yesterday, when facing Li Dahai, Uncle Xi had mediated with ease. But today, facing Li Dajiang, he was clearly under a lot more pressure.

Zhang Yun walked over and took a seat, pouring himself a cup of tea without a second thought. ”Are you done understanding?”

”You broke one of Li Bing’s arms and one of his legs. You slapped Li Dahai’s face with the sole of your shoe and stomped him into the ground. Then, you threw both of them into a ditch. Did this happen?” Li Dajiang spoke with a calm yet imposing tone, immediately pointing out the most crucial injuries first.

Zhang Yun smiled faintly. ”I helped teach them a lesson in being human for you. No need to thank me!”
