Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chen Jie and his companions were drinking and dining in the tavern when they saw two Red Turban Army soldiers, having finished their meal, head towards the tavern’s stable.

Upon reaching the stable, the two soldiers originally intended to claim their own horses, but unexpectedly, they were immediately drawn to the tall, splendid horses ridden by Chen Jie and his six companions.

Though Chen Jie and his companions kept a low profile by not riding the finest steeds, the Huangzhou Prefecture couldn’t possibly provide them with poor horses.

They were all the finest horses.

Even though those two from the Red Turban Army seemed to be small leaders, they still rode inferior horses, which couldn’t be compared to those of Chen Jiusi’s group.

At this moment, the two exchanged a knowing glance; the army was in need of horses, and if they could lead these six fine horses back, surely Lord Thousand Households would commend them greatly.

With this thought, the two men unceremoniously began untying the reins of Chen Jie’s six horses.

The waiter saw this and immediately stepped forward, saying, ”Sirs, these, these are the horses of those guests; you can’t move them!”

Upon hearing this, the two men sneered, ”We can’t move? Ha, there’s nothing in this world we can’t move. Get lost!”

One of the Red Turban soldiers pushed the waiter aside; in truth, the force wasn’t great, and the waiter clearly had some martial skills, and theoretically should be able to withstand it.

Yet, when the two men shoved the waiter, they saw him deliberately stagger and fall to the ground, crying out loudly, ”Ouch~”

This shout was quite strategic, loud enough to alert the diners nearby.

This was the waiter’s cleverness; this Guancheng Prefecture was Shaolin’s domain, and the leader of the Red Turban Army, Zhu Chongba, was the disciple of Kudu Monk, Shaolin’s highest-ranking monk, making it unwise to provoke the Red Turban Army.

But the waiter wasn’t foolish; those coming here riding such splendid horses were certainly not ordinary people, and if he lost their horses here, he couldn’t afford the consequences either.

Thus he had to step forward to obstruct, and make sure the commotion was loud.

Just like now, his shout had sufficiently alarmed the people dining, and they saw someone was stealing their horses.

If they had the authority to dare confront the Red Turban Army, then they would come to stop it.

If they didn’t have any status and dared not confront the Red Turban Army, then he’d informed them sufficiently; if they feared the Red Turban Army, that was their problem, not his.

So, regardless, he’d removed himself from the matter, making sure he, as the tavern waiter, wasn’t blamed.

It’s clear he understood the way a small person navigates such situations.

This shout indeed alarmed Chen Jie and his companions.

Chen Jie paused with the wine cup at his lips, and the others all looked over; as to the two Guancheng Prefecture officials, they acted as if they hadn’t seen anything, showing they had no means to deal with the Red Turban Army’s chaos.

They neither had the means nor wanted to deal with this mess.

Such was the state of officials in this era, idling and uninterested, turning a blind eye was their regular life.

With the world in chaos, nobody knew whether today’s thieves would become tomorrow’s officials; hence, they couldn’t or wouldn’t intervene.

Due to the government’s inaction, coupled with Shaolin’s backing, these Red Turban leaders acted without restraint, but today they were destined to hit a brick wall.

Chen Jie said nothing, merely looked over, while Zhao Ya drew her sword, intending to rise, but Ah San spoke up, ”Commandery Princess, there’s no need to use an ox cleaver to kill a chicken; I’ll deal with those unworthy fellows.”

Saying this, Ah San rose; nobody doubted his prowess, for Ah San possessed Rainbow Realm capabilities, and in contrast, the two brazen Red Turban leaders didn’t even have Energy Transformation. Honestly, their ability to provoke Ah San was bragging rights enough.

”Don’t cause any fatalities.”

Chen Jie uttered just one line.

This was Shaolin’s territory, and the Red Turban Army belonged to Zhu Chongba, whom Zhu Chongba served as a disciple of Kudu; beating the dog, one must look at the master. Chen Jie didn’t want to spark trouble whilst heading to the Great Capital, so a minor punishment would suffice.

Ah San replied, ”Understood.”

With that, Ah San walked over and approached; he rarely spoke courteously, ”Gentlemen, these seem to be our horses.”

The two leaders of the Red Turban Army, lacking Iron Bone Realm strength, naturally had insufficient eye power and couldn’t gauge Ah San’s depths, but they knew that, in Guancheng, their Marshal Zhu Chongba was supreme, backed by Shaolin; in this place, dragons must coil, tigers must lie, who would dare disregard Marshal Zhu’s face?

Moreover, this person spoke so politely, clearly indicating inadequate support, and such Heroes of the River were easy to bully; despite their dominance among the common folk, in front of the Red Turban Army, they were just subjects to oppression.

Feeling confident, the two didn’t even pause in untying the reins but continued.

”Hey, I’m talking to you two!”

Ah San continued speaking kindly.

Unexpectedly, this remark completely angered the two overly arrogant Red Turban soldiers, one of whom turned and said, ”These horses are being requisitioned by our Red Turban Army. Don’t waste words; get lost!”

”Ha, requisition our horses? Are you even worthy? If you don’t wish to die, leave the horses and scram.”

”Ouch!”

Hearing this, the Red Turban soldier paused in disbelief, looked at Ah San and said, ”You lower-class nobody, do you know whom you’re speaking to? I am the General of the Red Turban Army’s total flag, and not just taking your horses; even taking your woman, you’d have to smile. Do you believe I’ll kill you now?”
