Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chen Jie supported Zhao Ya, letting her sit down and speak slowly.

Seeing Chen Jie held her hand after just saying a few words, according to previous times, Wang Baobao would have already jumped up impatiently and start criticizing.

But today, Wang Baobao was unusually calm. Seeing him like this, Chen Jie squinted his eyes, realizing the situation must be very serious, otherwise Wang Baobao wouldn’t lower his noble head, watching Chen Jie and Zhao Ya being so affectionate.

Actually, Chen Jie quite liked Wang Baobao’s unyielding character.

But with Zhao Ya present, he still had to show some respect to his future brother-in-law, so Chen Jie didn’t mock him directly.

At this moment, Chen Jie sat down, and Cuiju came in with the maids, bringing hot tea, seasonal fruits, and some pastries.

Looking at the pastries in front of him, Wang Baobao felt like eating but was too embarrassed.

In order to make time, they had escaped from Longxing Prefecture, stopped for a night in Jiujiang Prefecture, and after a day and night of travel, they reached here, neither having a proper meal nor rest on the way.

Sustained solely by willpower, his stomach was growling, and he couldn’t resist the urge to eat when seeing the pastries and tea.

Yet for some reason, Wang Baobao felt embarrassed to show his disheveled state in front of Chen Jie; being inherently proud, plus the delicate relationship with Chen Jie.

He always held himself superior, viewing Chen Jie as inferior, believing Chen Jiusi had tricked Yaya with sweet words.

He never imagined he would one day come and ask Chen Jiusi for help.

Thinking about this, his mind was filled with countless thoughts, yet in the end, he obediently picked up the tea in front of him, taking small sips, trying to maintain his noble posture.

As if doing so can preserve his noble identity in front of Chen Jiusi, as Chen Jie often says, poor but maintaining dignity, living in suffering.

On the other side, Chen Jie had already poured a cup of tea for Zhao Ya, blowing it slightly to ensure it’s not too hot before handing it over to Zhao Ya, who was extremely thirsty and drank it all at once.

Seeing this, Chen Jie quickly poured another cup saying, ”Don’t rush into talking, drink first, drink.”

Chen Jie said a few words and promptly poured another cup for Zhao Ya, setting it aside to cool, while offering a bean paste pastry.

”Yunjin has ordered the kitchen to prepare a meal, let’s have some pastry first, and then enjoy a proper meal later.”

Upon hearing this, warmth appeared on Zhao Ya’s face, having traveled in haste, worried Chen Jiusi might not want to help her; seeing Chen Jie acting so, made Zhao Ya feel a bit reassured.

Chen Jie handed the pastry to Zhao Ya, who was eating, while Wang Baobao remained silent, yet foolishly didn’t reach for it himself, nor did he pour more tea, as if afraid of being mocked by Chen Jie.

Seeing Wang Baobao like this, Chen Jie found it amusing, but knowing his pride, he didn’t bother him.

Turning to Zhao Ya, ”Yaya, I was about to go to Longxing Prefecture tomorrow or the day after to request a marriage proposal from the Prince, but I didn’t expect you to come overnight, has something happened?”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Ya began, ”Yes, something happened.”

Chen Jie sat upright looking at Zhao Ya, showing great concern for the matter she spoke of.

After a brief silence, Zhao Ya said, ”My father seems to be in trouble.”

”The Prince? Can’t be, I saw the Prince at Bright Peak, although he was injured, it didn’t affect much, could an unforeseen event have occurred?”

Chen Jie asked Zhao Ya.

After a pause, Zhao Ya replied, ”Yes, my father didn’t return to Jiangnan after going to Bright Peak.”

”Hmm? Ruyang King didn’t return to Jiangnan? Where did he go then?”

Chen Jie asked, and Zhao Ya replied, shaking her head, ”He went to the Capital.”

”Great Capital?”

Chen Jie grew even more puzzled, his eyes reflecting confusion and bewilderment.

Why would Ruyang King, a Vassal King, go to the Capital without reason, historically, nothing good comes from Vassal Kings going to the Capital.

Thinking this, Chen Jie asked Zhao Ya, ”So, what’s the situation?”

Zhao Ya said, ”Father seems to have been put under soft house arrest by the court, stripped of his Jiangnan Governor position, and had control over the White Deer Army taken away, handed over to the Qincha Eight Guards.”

”What?”

Hearing this, Chen Jie was utterly shocked.

What is the court trying to do, stripping Ruyang King of the Jiangnan Governor position, which represents control over the five routes and eighty-one prefectures of Jiangnan, and now they even take away command over the White Deer Army, aiming to eradicate Ruyang King!

But isn’t Ruyang King a Prince? What has Ruyang King done to deserve such harsh action from the court against a Prince!

Chen Jie was filled with confusion, while Zhao Ya looked worried.

Wang Baobao’s expression was grim.

Chen Jie furrowed his brows, pondering for a moment, then said, ”Has the court already made a move?”

After hearing this, Zhao Ya responded, ”They have.”

Chen Jie asked, ”So now the control over the Jiangnan five routes and eighty-one prefectures has been taken away?”

Zhao Ya nodded, ”Yes, all Five Road Ministers of Political Affairs changed allegiance, siding with the court, and most of the eighty-one prefectures surrendered as well, as for the White Deer Army?”

Chen Jie looked at Zhao Ya asking, ”What about the White Deer Army? Did they rebel too?”

Zhao Ya stated, ”Father took thirty thousand men from the White Deer Army, the remaining fifty thousand have four centurions siding with the court, only my third brother managed to lead a group out.”
