Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

”Alright.”

The group agreed in unison, hunger gnawing at them for quite some time, responding eagerly as their stomachs growled loudly. The group dismounted, and the tavern servant eagerly approached them, noticing their luxurious attire and the stately horses they rode, clearly they were wealthy individuals.

With a smile, he greeted them.

”Bring us the best wine and dishes.”

Chen Jie sat down, proclaiming loudly, pretending to be in the demeanor of a Hero of the River.

The tavern servant, clearly adept at judging people at a glance, immediately understood Chen Jie’s nature, then chuckled, ”Alright.”

Soon, the wine and meat were brought to their table.

Meanwhile, the Red Turban Army’s lamb dishes were also served, and the government officials continued drinking and eating.

Chen Jie took the tavern’s wine, tasted it, and found it bland and tasteless, as if water had been mixed into liquor.

Still, he drank heartily, then called to the tavern servant, ”Servant.”

”Yes, coming.”

As Chen Jie spoke, the servant came over, nodding and bowing, asking, ”What would the esteemed guests like to order?”

Chen Jie then took out a handful of Copper Coins from his pocket and slammed them onto the table, saying, ”I want to ask you something.”

The servant, seeing the money, smiled even more broadly, ”Please, sir.”

Chen Jie asked, ”Are those the Red Turban Army over there?”

The servant nodded, ”Correct, they are the Red Turban Army, likely from Commander Tang’s division.”

”Commander Tang?”

Curious, Chen Jie asked, and the servant replied, ”Gestapo, Tang He, Commander Tang, aren’t you aware?”

Hearing this, Chen Jie replied oddly, ”Tang He? It’s the first time I’m hearing this.”

Even while saying this, he was confused internally, what is happening here, Tang He, isn’t he Zhu Yuanzhang’s subordinate? Shouldn’t Zhu Yuanzhang’s forces be in Haozhou? Why are they here in Henan?

Contemplating this, Chen Jie turned to Ah Da and asked, ”Ah Da, where are we now?”

Ah Da answered, ”Henan Road, Guancheng Prefecture.”

”Guancheng Prefecture? Isn’t Mount Song Shaolin nearby?”

Upon hearing this, the servant beside them replied, ”Guest, are you unaware? The Shaolin Temple is less than thirty miles from here, just head in that direction.”

Immediately, Chen Jie’s mind began to speculate, but he still wanted to ask the servant.

”Oh, so Shaolin is here, by the way, are those on the other side government officials?”

The servant replied, ”Yes, officials from Guancheng Prefecture.”

Chen Jie then said, ”Aren’t the Red Turban Army and the court in opposition? Why are they sitting together without any conflict?”

The servant smiled, ”Sir, aren’t you already aware? This is Guancheng Prefecture, only thirty miles from Mount Song Shaolin.”

”And what’s the significance of that?”

Chen Jie asked again, and the servant laughed, ”Why pretend to be ignorant when you understand, sir? Being so close to Shaolin, naturally, Shaolin has the jurisdiction.”

”Here in Guancheng Prefecture, neither the government nor the Red Turban Army have the final say; the only authority is the temple’s Great Monk.”

”Even the Lord Magistrate is a registered disciple of Shaolin Kong Wen Master.”

”And the military leader of the Red Turban Army, Zhu Chongba, is the last disciple of Shaolin Kudu Zen Master, technically making the Lord Magistrate his junior, how could there be conflict?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie nodded lightly, gaining insight into the influence of the Six Great Sects.

The whole Guancheng Prefecture was their territory, with the magistrate being a registered disciple, and Zhu Yuanzhang having such a powerful backing, isn’t it natural for a rapid development?

In reflection, Chen Jie felt somewhat envious of Zhu Chongba.

Of course, he hadn’t considered that his influence now might be even more exaggerated than Zhu Chongba’s.

Understanding the situation, Chen Jie no longer cared to stay, so he turned to the Commandery Princess beside him and said, ”Let’s eat quickly, finish dining, and continue our journey.”

”Alright!”
