Xiao Hu said, ”Alright, you’ve become much more steady in your actions now, kid.”

Wang said, ”Hehe, it’s all thanks to the Gang Leader’s teachings.”

The two of them continued to transport the grain, as the grain carts formed a long line heading into the city.

Meanwhile, the people of Mianshui celebrated once more. Another 100,000 stones of grain—this time, Mianshui truly was not lacking grain.

Some were skeptical, questioning whether it was really grain.

But they quickly fell silent, because some of the grain sacks had opened, spilling grain along the way, and the Fishing Guild members were generous, not stopping the citizens from picking it up.

Once the citizens picked up the grain, they exclaimed excitedly, ”Ah, it’s grain, real grain!”

...

With this arrival of 100,000 stones of grain at the dock, the entire Mianshui County erupted in excitement, with countless people shouting, ”This time we’re saved.”

Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, the Suzhou Chamber of Commerce.

”What!”

Shen Wansan jumped up from his chair, his face full of shock, ”What did you say, another 100,000 stones of grain went into Mianshui?”

”Wan San, it’s absolutely true. We personally saw it with our own eyes, all the grain was moved into the Fishing Guild’s warehouses, and since there wasn’t enough space, they even borrowed the Guild Cao’s warehouse.”

Upon hearing this, Shen Wansan said, ”How is this possible? Where did Chen Jiusi manage to get this grain?”

Hearing this, a merchant said, ”Wan San, did you forget? Behind Chen Jiusi stands the Commandery Princess of the Ruyang Royal Mansion, and the Prefecture Governor of Huangzhou Prefecture is the adopted son of the Ruyang King.”

”With their close relationship, how could the Ruyang King’s adopted son not help his sister?”

”This is just 100,000 stones; who knows if there will be more in the future!”

Upon hearing this, other Suzhou grain merchants said, ”What should we do about this? If we don’t sell the grain, what do we do?”

Shen Wansan said, ”No, selling the grain now would do no good, and if we sell, we might fall into Chen Jiusi’s trap, so we cannot sell the grain.”

Hearing this, other Suzhou merchants said, ”Wan San, we can’t hold out like you with your large-scale business, we can’t afford this!”

Upon hearing this, Shen Wansan said, ”Trust me and don’t sell the grain, let’s wait and see. My people have investigated Huangzhou Prefecture’s grain stock, they can’t possibly mobilize a hundred thousand stones of grain; I fear there’s something fishy here!”

The Suzhou merchants looked at Shen Wansan, momentarily silent and unsure of what to say.

If they disagreed, Shen Wansan, at such a young age, had built a large business empire from scratch, but if they said he was formidable, now things were such a mess, they didn’t know what to do.

Each looked at one another, knitting their brows, and no longer spoke.

Shen Wansan thought for a moment and said, ”Everyone, let’s not sell the grain. As I said, if we can’t sell in Mianshui, there are plenty of places in Hubei that are short of grain, we can transport the grain out of Mianshui and still sell it at a good price.”

The many grain merchants heard this and all frowned, then said, ”What about the transport cost?”

Shen Wansan said, ”My Wan San Chamber of Commerce will cover it.”

The many grain merchants instantly smiled upon hearing this, ”Alright, since your chamber is covering the transport costs, we’ll just transport the grain out of Mianshui and find another place to sell it at a high price.”

After all, this would just cost a bit of time.

The group made up their minds; if the price wasn’t right, they would transport the grain out of Mianshui.

...

On the other side, when Zhou Peng and the others found out that Chen Jie had transported yet another 100,000 stones of grain into Mianshui, their composure shattered instantly.

”This, how is this possible, 100,000 stones? How come there’s another 100,000 stones!”

Liu Rong looked at Zhou Peng and said, ”Guild Leader Zhou, what do we do now? If we don’t sell our grain soon, it’s going to be worthless.”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Peng said, ”Don’t panic, don’t panic, there must be a way out.”

”Ugh, what way out is there, Guild Leader Zhou, stop deceiving us, is this grain going to be worthless in our hands or not!”

Landlord Wang said with a bitter face.

On the other side, Landlord Zhang said, ”Guild Leader Zhou, the Fishing Guild now has nearly 200,000 stones of grain. If the grain he previously claimed to have burned wasn’t burnt, then there’s around 260,000 to 270,000 stones of grain, barely enough to meet the consumption of the people in Mianshui.”

”That’s right, Guild Leader Zhou, and don’t forget there are also a number of big merchants from Suzhou in Mianshui. They have as much as 250,000 stones of grain; where are we supposed to sell all this grain!”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Peng felt at a loss.

While everyone was feeling anxious, someone suddenly entered their courtyard, and to their surprise, it was the guard commander by Yelu’s side, Ahetai.

”Lord Commander.”

Everyone saluted Ahetai, and Ahetai said, ”No need to salute, Lord Yelu has sent me to deliver some news to all of you.”

The group looked at Ahetai and said, ”What news?”

At this moment, Ahetai said, ”Lord Yelu has stated that the less than 100,000 stones of grain you have, don’t worry. The big merchants from Suzhou, as long as the grain prices don’t meet their expectations, they will leave Mianshui and won’t sell grain here.”

”This has already been confirmed with their chamber president Shen Wansan. If the grain prices don’t rise, they’ll leave Mianshui, and your grain can still be sold for a high price, so don’t worry!”

Upon hearing this, the crowd glanced at each other, then clasped their fists together and said, ”Thank you, Lord Yelu, for the information. We understand.”

After they finished speaking, Ahetai said, ”The Lord also said, you must keep your composure, all of this is Chen Jiusi’s conspiracy.”

The group nodded in unison, ”Understood, please rest assured, Lord Yelu.”
