Chapter 805: Chapter 217 Chen Jie: Laugh, you will soon be unable to laugh_4

Peng Yingyu smiled and said, ”Then don’t bother with any rebellion. Chen Jiusi seems to be playing a big game of chess. I think he can resolve this disaster in Mianshui.”

Han He frowned and said, ”Master, although I also agree that Chen Jiusi has some abilities, Mianshui has a shortage of as much as 200,000 stones. Now there’s a grain shortage all around; even with miraculous means, he can’t just conjure food out of thin air!”

Peng Yingyu said, ”Let’s wait and see, I always feel he’s someone who can perform miracles.”

Upon hearing this, Han He said, ”Master, what if he finds it difficult to perform a miracle?”

Peng Yingyu said, ”Then do as you will, at that time Mianshui will inevitably face a catastrophe.”

Han He replied, ”Yes, Master, I’ll follow your words. If he can solve this crisis, we will lay down our arms, and it just so happens that Yu Mei Zi’s position is vacant. My master wants me to take the position of Deputy Hall Master in Huangzhou Prefecture.”

”If he cannot, then I will stage a rebellion in Mianshui, achieving great merit, and my master has said he will have me return to the Headquarters to assume the position of Hall Master.”

Peng Yingyu said, ”Amitabha Buddha, it seems the life and death of Mianshui rest on Chen Jiusi’s shoulders.”

After speaking, Monk Peng looked at Chen Jiusi entering the tavern with the Commandery Princess, speaking to himself, ”Chen Jiusi, although you have inherited the legacy of Chang Chun Valley, this crisis in Mianshui is not something that can be resolved by martial power alone.”

Chen Jie’s group entered the Drunken Immortal Tower.

Everyone present saw the three enter, and immediately clasped their fists, ”Greetings, Lord of the Commandery, Lord Yelu, Guild Leader Chen.”

Zhao Ya spoke up, ”Everyone, please have a seat.”

Zhao Ya went to the main seat, and immediately addressed the owner of the Drunken Immortal Tower, ”Is there breakfast available? Please serve some to everyone; at such an early hour, they likely haven’t had breakfast yet?”

Hearing this, the owner of the Drunken Immortal Tower replied, ”Yes.”

After that, the owner directly ordered his subordinates to bring various snacks, pastries, and breakfast foods.

Zhao Ya also got herself a portion and said, ”Everyone, please eat, eat.”

The group gathered around the breakfast and began eating in small bites, while Chen Jie, not holding back, joined Xiao Hu in feasting.

After a few bites, Zhao Ya asked, ”Is everyone here?”

Upon hearing this, Ah Da, who was beside, said, ”It seems Mianshui County Magistrate Tang Wannian is not here yet.”

Just as these words were being spoken, a voice from outside said, ”Here, here.”

Hearing this voice, everyone turned their heads, and then saw Tang Wannian jogging in, ”Mianshui County Magistrate, Tang Wannian, greets the Commandery Princess.”

Zhao Ya, upon hearing this, glanced at Tang Wannian and said, ”Haha, County Magistrate Tang, you are late.”

Tang Wannian replied, ”Ah, this morning, I went with my county’s arrest officer, Wu Hong, to the riverbank on the front line. Only after finding the floodwaters had receded did I come late, asking for the Commandery Princess’s forgiveness.”

”Haha, County Magistrate Tang, you love the people like your own children; what fault is there? Please, have a seat.”

”Thank you, Commandery Princess.”

Tang Wannian entered, followed by Wu Hong, who glanced at those sitting, saying nothing, only watching Chen Jie more closely.

After everyone sat down, Zhao Ya looked at those present and said, ”Everyone is here, just in time, as I have some matters to discuss with all of you.”

Upon hearing this, everyone immediately clasped their fists and said, ”Please speak, Commandery Princess; we will not refuse anything within our capabilities.”

Zhao Ya responded, ”Good, good, you are all loyal subjects who share the burden with the state. It’s like this: Mianshui has been struck by a flood, destroying grain fields, making it difficult for Mianshui’s people to hope for autumn harvests...”

As Zhao Ya began to speak, several people around exchanged glances and stopped talking, knowing well the implication of Zhao Ya’s words that undoubtedly they were to be urged to contribute grain.

But contribute grain?

The people exchanged glances again, not likely; such grain was accumulated by painstakingly extracting the people’s wealth and toil. To give it away so readily was a dream.

Hence they exchanged glances again, but no one spoke up.

Zhao Ya glanced at Chen Jie, who nodded slightly, Zhao Ya continued, ”So, Mianshui urgently needs grain now. I invited you all here today mainly to rally you, to see if you can find ways to mobilize some grain from elsewhere to save Mianshui’s people.”

Upon hearing this, everyone in the room fell silent.

Zhao Ya looked towards Landlord Zhang and Landlord Wang and said, ”Gentlemen, you are major landowners in Mianshui, with lots of fertile fields. During these times of grain scarcity, could you contribute some grain to address the urgent needs?”

”Ah, ah, Lord of the Commandery, what you say is true. Although Brother Zhang and I indeed have some small beginnings, our families are large, and due to the government’s continuous warfare over the years, we have sold our grain, leaving only enough left for subsistence, we truly find ourselves unable, unable!”

Landlord Wang said to the Commandery Princess.

The Commandery Princess turned to Zhou Peng and Liu Rong and said, ”You two are also major guilds in Mianshui. In these times of crisis, could you spare some grain?”

Upon hearing this, Zhou Peng immediately said, ”Commandery Princess, although we are willing to aid the nation, our guild is small, with few people and limited financial strength, let alone precious grain. Even the grain sold in our shops in recent days was gathered to comply with the Commandery Princess’s orders. Therefore, gathering more grain is indeed difficult!”

Upon hearing this, Zhao Ya fixed her gaze on Chen Jie and said, ”Chen Jiusi, your Fishing Guild is Mianshui’s largest. In these times, will you not make an effort?”

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie stood up and said, ”Commandery Princess, I, Chen Jiusi, am a native of Mianshui County; my heart beats for Mianshui as well. In the face of Mianshui’s disaster, the Fishing Guild has an unshirkable duty. Let it be known that our Fishing Guild will certainly give our utmost.”

”Currently, our Antai Grain Store has been selling grain at a fair price, and there are nearly 200,000 stones of grain in our Fishing Guild’s warehouse, enough to sustain Mianshui’s consumption for a short period. I, Chen Jiusi, promise that this grain will be sold to the people at cost price, without profiting a single penny unethically.”
