Chapter 802: Chapter 217 Chen Jie: Laugh, soon you won’t be able to laugh anymore

In the evening, Chen Jie returned home with a tired body, not expecting his wife was still awake.

She was sitting there, a bowl of noodles made by her in front of her.

A lid covered it, and her hand was supporting her chin. Her eyes were closed, and she seemed sleepy.

Seeing this, Chen Jie walked over softly. As he got close, Su Yunjin woke up startled, looked up, and said, ”Husband, you’re back.”

”Mm, you waited quite a while for me, didn’t you?”

”No, no.”

Su Yunjin hurriedly denied, then looked at Chen Jie and said, ”Have you eaten? I made noodles for you.”

Hearing this, Chen Jie laughed and said, ”Not yet, I’m starving.”

Actually, he had eaten. He had some wontons from a wonton stall, but since his wife waited for him so long, even if he was full, he should eat a bit more.

Chen Jie opened the lid on the noodles in front of him. The noodles were still warm. His wife said, ”Oh dear, these noodles have clumped together, I’ll make another bowl for you.”

Chen Jie laughed and said, ”Haha, it’s fine, as long as it’s made by my wife, I love it.”

Chen Jie started eating the noodles, slurping them mouthful by mouthful. Although the noodles were clumped, his heart was warm.

”Husband, slow down, slow down.”

Su Yunjin felt happy inside, but on her face showed concern that Chen Jie was eating too fast and might choke.

Chen Jie said, ”Mm, sure, my wife.”

Watching Chen Jie eat, Su Yunjin then said, ”Husband, I want to discuss something with you.”

”Hmm?”

Chen Jie looked at Su Yunjin. She had never talked to him like this before.

”What’s the matter?”

”Husband, promise me first.”

Su Yunjin spoke up, and hearing this, Chen Jie looked at his little young lady, nodded and said, ”Alright, I promise you, go ahead.”

”I’ve been calculating the days at home recently. Sister Huang is five months along now; it’s the time when miscarriages are most likely. She lives alone in the side courtyard. I worry about any accidents that might hurt your offspring, plus she is quite pitiful. How about we bring her here to live with us?”

”Didn’t Nan Batian get dealt with by husband? Now there’s no fear of Sister Huang being in any danger.”

Chen Jie was stunned by these words and looked at Su Yunjin, saying, ”Wife, she’s your rival in love!”

Su Yunjin laughed hearing this, ”What rival? Just a woman with a hard life, husband, please promise me, alright?”

His wife looked at Chen Jie with a face full of pleading.

Chen Jie gazed at the expression on Su Yunjin’s face, feeling warmth inside. He understood that his wife was speaking with two considerations. First, she was thinking for herself. Huang Wan’er being outside had truly been a lingering concern for him. His wife’s words aimed to relieve his worries.

She was afraid he would find it hard to voice the idea of bringing Huang Wan’er here.

Second, Su Yunjin truly was a kind person; she genuinely felt sorry for Huang Wan’er.

She was also pregnant and could feel the little life inside her, and sense her body weakening day by day. She knew how difficult it was to be pregnant and raise a child alone.

A woman needed to be cherished by a man.

Thus, Su Yunjin felt pity for Huang Wan’er living alone in the small courtyard in South City.

Furthermore, recently Su Yunjin sensed a strange atmosphere inside the city. For example, Zhou Chu suddenly became cold, plus the grain shortage, unrest, and news about a rise in thieves inside the city. These were all things Su Yunjin worried about.

If there were thieves breaking into Huang Wan’er’s residence, what should be done!

Thinking this way, she couldn’t help but worry, therefore she spoke this way to Chen Jie.

Chen Jie slightly furrowed his brow and said, ”I invited her over, but she refused.”

Su Yunjin heard this and smiled gently, saying, ”Husband, if you invite her, she naturally wouldn’t come; however, if husband agrees, then I will go tomorrow.”

”You?”

Chen Jie looked at his wife in astonishment.

Su Yunjin pretended to puff out her chest and said, ”Don’t believe your wife’s capability?”

Chen Jie looked at Su Yunjin like this, unable to resist saying, ”My wife, sorry for troubling you.”

Upon hearing this, a hint of melancholy flashed in Su Yunjin’s eyes. She was, after all, also a woman and hoped to have her man all to herself.

However, she knew even more that in this era, her thoughts were wrong — female virtue taught to avoid jealousy.

But only by not truly loving someone can one be indifferent. If love goes deep into the bones, how can one not feel jealousy?

Yet, she knew even more that as the housekeeper, she should possess the demeanor of a virtuous wife and good mother. Her husband had a spirit that embraced all under heaven; although she couldn’t foresee the outcome, as his wife...

She must possess a heart that can embrace the world.

If she can be Lady, she can endure everything that is to come.

Her responsibility was to assist her husband and manage all matters at the rear.

Let her husband have no worries behind him.

Chen Jie looked at his dear wife, held her in his arms, and Su Yunjin peacefully nestled in her husband’s embrace, not wanting to say anything, just wishing to peacefully nestle like this...

...

A silent night; the next morning.

Early in the morning, Xiao Hu said that today the Commandery Princess was hosting a banquet at the Drunken Immortal Tower, aiming to invite all reputable people inside the city to discuss major matters. This is an invitation for us.

Chen Jie stretched lazily, having slept very well last night. Although he didn’t have any cheerful little moments with his wife, sleeping with such a beauty in his arms was a kind of enjoyment.

Especially since she was pregnant with his bloodline.

Chen Jie took the invitation card, glanced at it, and laughed, ”The Commandery Princess is really quick and decisive, get the carriage ready, let’s head to the Drunken Immortal Tower for the meeting!”

”Yes!”

Xiao Hu responded and quickly left. Watching Xiao Hu leave hurriedly, Su Yunjin’s voice sounded from behind, ”Husband, are you leaving?”

Chen Jie turned to see Su Yunjin and said, ”Not sleeping a bit more?”
