Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

In the afternoon, Chen Jie listened as Doctor Bai explained a prescription named ”White Tiger Soup.”

This prescription is very effective and specializes in treating high fever in children, making it an unparalleled choice.

However, the prescription is also very dangerous as its potent nature carries a certain likelihood of causing child mortality.

Thus, when administering this treatment, extra caution is necessary. Along the way, Doctor Bai also shared a story about why doctors should not treat their own family.

He mentioned a famous physician who was outstanding at treating others, with just one dose often sufficing. However, as he grew older and had a late child, one day his young son fell ill.

His family asked him to prescribe a medicine for treatment, but even after several doses, nothing worked.

Finally, with no other choice, they took the boy to a neighboring pharmacy with a physician whose skills were far inferior to the famous doctor’s.

Yet, to their surprise, the boy was cured by just one dose of medicine from this less skilled physician.

Later, curious, the neighboring physician, knowing he was less skilled, wondered why the famous doctor could not cure his own son.

So, he went to ask him.

The famous doctor heaved a sigh and replied, ”If it were not my own son, ’White Tiger Soup’ would have been used!”

And indeed, the medicine that cured his child was this very ”White Tiger Soup”!

Listening to Doctor Bai’s philosophically rich story, Chen Jie etched the song of White Tiger Soup in his heart:

”White Tiger ointment knows the licorice stalk, disperses intense heat this formula clears, fever and sweat with strong pulsing veins, add ginseng to nourish vital forces!”

After learning a prescription, Chen Jie took his leave. Wu Hong was in a somber mood, noticeably troubled ever since that Hero of the River had left.

Chen Jie greeted him and then left the Bai Family and told Doctor Bai that he might arrive late the next day because he needed to first report to the fishery.

Doctor Bai said, ”No worries, go ahead.”

Leaving the Bai Family, it was already late in the afternoon, around three o’clock, and he headed home to meet his sisters Su Yunjin to buy chicks and ducklings in the town.

As usual, he walked towards home, but as he passed by the Lu San Family’s place, he saw a crowd gathered there enjoying the spectacle.

This had become an old custom in the village, where villagers would flock to watch any family dispute, relishing the drama.

With nothing better to do, Chen Jie joined the crowd at the courtyard wall and saw inside Lu San and Chen Xiong caught up in a dispute.

Lu Qinsi was fiercely grasping the thinning hair of Chen Sanliu, refusing to let go.

Chen Sanliu, in pain, cried out, ”Gently, gently, don’t pull the front, pull from the back, there’s hardly any left! Oh...”

Watching such an intense ’dog-eat-dog’ scene, Chen Jie curiously asked,

”What started the fight?”

”Ah, Jiu Si, you’re back early today.”

”Actually, it’s like this, Lu San had promised...”

Once a villager explained it to him, Chen Jie understood, realizing that the matter was also related to himself.

Lu San had asked Chen Sanliu for money in the morning—one tael and eight maces—intending to give Big Ship Leader an extra tael of silver, while keeping the eight maces for himself.

But when he went to deliver the money in the afternoon, Big Ship Leader bluntly rejected it.

So, the transaction was botched!

Well, since the matter wasn’t settled, they should get a refund.

Chen Sanliu’s family came to demand the money back from Lu San. However, they only received four taels and six maces, missing two maces of silver.

And that two maces of silver had been spent by Lu San and his spouse on liquor and meat for lunch.

Chen Sanliu’s family was furious; not only was their issue unresolved, but their money was also used to buy alcohol and meat? How audacious Lu San was to demand compensation!

Lu San was immediately upset, with an attitude of, ”I’m limping on one leg, running errands for you, and I spend a bit of your money, can’t I enjoy a bit?”

Chen Xiong retorted, ”You dare to enjoy luxuries without settling our matters? Screw you!”

He then leaped forward with a surge of aggression!

Don’t underestimate Lu San just because he has a lame leg; his fierceness was no less than that of Chen Xiong as he pounced on him, and the two began to tussle fiercely.

Chen Sanliu wanted to help but was grabbed by the hair by Lu Qinsi.

In no time, they were a tangled mess, fighting fiercely!

It truly was a case of dog-eat-dog.

As two groups of people fought, the surrounding neighbors, although entertained, made no move to intervene; Chen Sanliu and Lu San were not well-liked in the village.

They fought, and the neighbors could only applaud and cheer.

Chen Jie watched with his arms crossed, finding the scene quite satisfying. He turned his head and saw Li Ergua, Lu San’s cousin, who was also peering curiously but not helping.

Chen Jie glanced at Li Ergua and said, ”Ergua!”

”Jiu Si!”

Li Ergua nodded and bowed, greeting Chen Jie.

”Isn’t Lu San your cousin? You’re just going to stand there watching and not help?”

Li Ergua replied, ”No need, I saw that Chen Xiong was pretty ruthless.”

Chen Jie: (⊙o⊙)…(Whose side are you on?)

”I mean, aren’t you going to help Lu San?”

”Me, help him?”

”Jiu Si, you don’t know. Lu San is really a bad seed. Our families’ lands are adjacent, and there used to be a dirt path in between, but Lu San insisted on encroaching further. When my dad confronted him, he dared to beat up my own dad, who is his biological uncle!”

”He’s a bad seed, and that’s how he should be dealt with. I don’t know who did it, but it sure is satisfying!”

”If they really got into the fishery, who knows how much trouble they’d cause!”

As Li Ergua spoke, Chen Jie smiled and then turned to leave.

At that moment, Li Ergua called out, ”Jiu Si, where are you going? Won’t you watch a bit longer?”

”No more watching, I’m going home. My sister-in-law is waiting for me to eat.”

Upon hearing this, Li Ergua said, ”Jiu Si, your sister-in-law might not be at home. I saw her gathering wild vegetables with Aunt Erba at the East River when I came here.”

”East River?”

”Oh, thanks Ergua!”

”Bro, why mention it? We’re all from the same village.”

Chen Jie then bid farewell to Ergua and headed towards the East River. The area near the riverbank was lush with aquatic plants, making it a favorite spot for wild vegetables.

This place was once monopolized by Lu Qinsi, but ever since Chen Jie had broken Lu San’s leg, anyone could come here to dig.

As Chen Jie walked toward East River, a group of uninvited guests appeared; dressed like house servants, it was clear they were from the Yu Family.

Having arrived, they soon noticed the women gathering wild vegetables and quickly surrounded them. These seven or eight women, seeing five house servants approach, were puzzled but not alarmed.

Aunt Erba leaned close to Su Yunjin, better to support each other.

The house servants came over and said, ”We want to ask you ladies something.”

The women were startled, one of them said, ”Haven’t you asked already? Dai Douli, Scarred Face!”

”Not that.”

The house servant spoke briefly and then continued, ”Do you know Ma Liu is dead?”

”Ah?”

Everyone was stunned; they knew Ma Liu, who had made trouble at Su Yunjin’s home not long ago.

Thinking, all eyes involuntarily turned towards Su Yunjin, who suddenly felt a chill, realizing something.

That night, what had her husband gone out to do? Could it have been to commit murder?
