Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

”It’s you!”

The Hero of the River looked at Chen Jie and let out a sound of recognition, as if seeing an old acquaintance.

Doctor Bai and Wu Hong both turned to look at Chen Jie.

Chen Jie felt like he was sitting on pins and needles!

Being encountered by the Hero of the River again was indeed a feeling of being caught off guard.

A slight pause.

Doctor Bai said, ”Jiu Si, you know each other?”

Before Chen Jie could speak, the Hero of the River laughed heartily and said, ”Know each other, know each other! This young brother here is a good man, not only did he treat me to a bowl of wontons, but he also pointed me to a way to make a fortune, right, young brother?”

”Heh heh...”

Chen Jie didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, and Wu Hong looked puzzled, but Doctor Bai was an old Jianghu hand.

”Oh, if you’re acquaintances, then that’s even better. Come take a seat.”

The Hero of the River sat down nonchalantly and immediately continued talking to Chen Jie, ”Young brother, last time we met, I didn’t ask for your Name. So you’re called Jiu Si, what’s your surname?”

The Hero of the River was very talkative, speaking these words to Chen Jie at the moment.

Chen Jie said, ”Hero, my mundane Name isn’t worth mentioning. Right, you must be thirsty, have some tea!”

The Hero of the River took the teacup; it was filled with hot brewed tea.

He didn’t seem to feel the heat at all and downed it in one gulp, even the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup ended up in his stomach.

”I was actually a bit thirsty.”

After drinking the tea, Doctor Bai took the pulse pillow, asked him to place his hand on it, and started taking his pulse.

Meanwhile, he continued talking to Chen Jie, ”Hey, young brother, I have to thank you. The way to fortune you suggested really worked. I went to the Yu Family’s patriarch, and that guy was quite hospitable. I gave him two slaps, and he handed over a thousand taels of silver to me...”

Hearing this, Chen Jie didn’t say a word. Wu Hong, on the other side, was about to jump up, speaking of robbery and extortion right in front of a constable, huh?

And Chen Jie, you’re involved in this too?

At this moment, Chen Jie was repeatedly signaling to Wu Hong with his eyes, ’Oh my good elder brother, keep your calm, let’s first think of a way to send him away,’ he pleaded silently.

Wu Hong suppressed his anger; although he abhorred evil, he wasn’t foolish. From their brief confrontation at the door earlier, he knew he was no match for him.

Now indeed wasn’t the time to act rashly, the old man was still here with Jiu Si!

Thinking this, Wu Hong suppressed his anger and moved next to Doctor Bai. If the Jianghu Guest suddenly became violent, he would be ready to defend, although he was no match for the other, he was still stronger than Jiu Si and the old man!

Doctor Bai seemed oblivious to the strange situation outside.

He was just concentrating on taking the pulse.

The Vein Classics says: From the fish border to the high bone, retreat one inch, and it is called the inch opening.

Below one inch is the barrier pulse, and further down is the foot.

Thus, the three pulses in traditional Chinese medicine: inch, barrier, and foot.

And the inch, barrier, and foot on both hands correspond to the human body’s five viscera and six entrails, so to evaluate if a traditional Chinese doctor is professional, one can observe how he takes the pulse. Those TV shows where a single hand’s touch leads to instant diagnosis are mostly artistic fiction.

Both hands must be used to measure inch, barrier, and foot pulses.

Doctor Bai felt the pulse and said, ”Left inch floats weakly, governs the small intestine, so you must have suffered an injury below the right ribs.

On top of that, on the right inch, it’s deep; your lungs must have been injured, likely by a palm hit, damaging part of the lung meridian. Is it true that when it gets late at night, you can’t stop coughing?”

Doctor Bai looked at the Jianghu Guest.

The eyes of the Jianghu Guest lit up as he said, ”Doctor Bai is truly remarkable. Your words are spot-on. My left lung was slapped and my right ribs got stabbed!”

”Doctor Bai actually got it exactly right. The number one physician of Xiantao Town truly lives up to his reputation!”

Doctor Bai waved his hand and said, ”Oh, the guest flatters me too much!”

The Jianghu Guest responded, ”Don’t be modest. By the way, can this injury be cured?”

Doctor Bai said, ”If such an injury were to befall an ordinary person, they would either be crippled or half-dead. But on you, it’s not a significant damage. Just a few prescriptions and some days of recuperation should see a full recovery.”

The Jianghu Guest said, ”Then Doctor Bai, please quickly write a prescription.”

Doctor Bai said, ”Hmm, I can swiftly alleviate your long-standing cough, but this knife wound needs to heal. It will take at least ten days to half a month, at the minimum.”

The Jianghu Guest said, ”Don’t worry about the knife wound; it can heal on its own. It’s just the cough that I need Doctor Bai to treat. It always starts coughing in the middle of the night, and the coughing agitates the wound. When I use my Inner Strength to suppress it, the coughing only gets worse and it’s extremely bothersome!”

Hearing this, Doctor Bai said, ”Hmm, your lungs have sustained serious damage which caused the energy to stagnate. When you use your Inner Strength to suppress it, a backlash is bound to occur.”

”Jiu Si.”

Doctor Bai called out, and Chen Jie came over saying, ”Master.”

Doctor Bai said, ”Get some paper and a brush.”

”Yes.”

The paper and brush were quickly brought over, and Doctor Bai briskly dotted down a few prescriptions: ”I don’t have all the necessary herbs, so the guest will need to purchase some from a pharmacy. Follow the prescription, boil three bowls of water down to one, and take it before bed every day. The effect should be seen within two days!”

Hearing this, the Jianghu Guest looked at the prescription and laughed, ”Alright, then thank you, Doctor Bai. If it works, I’ll make sure to come back and express my gratitude.”

The Jianghu Guest looked at Doctor Bai with a somewhat teasing look in his eyes. Doctor Bai understood his meaning: if the treatment worked, he would come to give thanks, but what if it didn’t? Would that mean he’d come back to kill his entire family?

And what if Doctor Bai secretly tampered with the prescription?

Jianghu people seeking medical treatment don’t entirely trust others; sometimes they’re all on guard.

That statement was a warning.

Even Chen Jie felt that when taking the medicine, the Jianghu Guest would likely have someone else test it first.

Doctor Bai looked at the Hero of the River and said, ”By the way, my good sir, make sure to choose the best quality herbs, and don’t be deceived.”

Hearing this, the Hero of the River smiled and said, ”Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. If the medicine is wrong, there’s no need to find your place.”

”By the way, doctor, what is your consultation fee?”

Doctor Bai chuckled, ”To help those in urgent need in the Jianghu, what need is there for a consultation fee?”

The Jianghu Guest took out an ingot of ten taels of silver from his pocket, slapped it on the table and said, ”Paying for medical services is a rule that must not be broken.”

He then turned and walked away, but Doctor Bai called out, ”You’ve given too much!”

The Jianghu Guest waved his hand and said, ”It’s not too much, besides, this money is actually thanks to your apprentice’s guidance, consider the extra as gratitude!”

Fuck...

Watching the Jianghu Guest not forgetting to jab at him before leaving made Chen Jie want to curse out loud, but he thought better of it and let it go.

At this time, Doctor Bai and Wu Hong both looked at Chen Jie simultaneously.

”Jiu Si, what on earth is going on? How do you know such a Jianghu desperado?” Wu Hong asked earnestly while Doctor Bai also looked at Chen Jie.

Chen Jie had a ’I’m screwed’ expression on his face and said, ”Master, Brother Wu, this, I’m afraid it’s just fate!”

”What do you mean?”

Chen Jie said, ”Do you remember the Red-eyed Golden Chicken?”

Wu Hong said, ”It was only the day before yesterday, how could we forget? It’s related?”

Chen Jie, looking sullen, said, ”Related. I only found out afterwards that the Red-eyed Golden Chicken had escaped from Yu Biao, and he even sent people to investigate. I got exposed, so I had my cousin spread a rumor that said a Jianghu Guest with a douli and a scar on his face had taken the Golden Chicken. Who would have thought that right after spreading this nonsense, I would see him at the dumpling stand in town...”
