Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 166: Volume 3, Chapter 52: Mecha Review

Since the plan had already been finalized, under Dell’s arrangement, the technical department was thrown into intense work. The first issue to address was the feasibility study. A task that typically took nearly a week was completed in less than six hours, with the increased efficiency being quite simple to explain. Firstly, the modification steps provided by the Fatty were very detailed, allowing them to follow precise instructions. Secondly, everyone realized that virtually no problem could stymie this guy. Whether it was the transmission method, direction adjustments, which parts from private mechas to use as replacements, or which control system was most suitable, this mechanic named Zhang Yuan had an answer ready for everything.

It only took six hours to complete the feasibility study, even after repeated reviews per Christina’s suggestion to ensure perfection. The mechanics, completely fascinated by machinery, were all ecstatic. They did not feel jealous of Holy Knight Company’s possession of such a mechanical genius; instead, they were genuinely happy. As the saying goes, ”In a crowd of three, there is always someone to learn from.” The greatest shortfall of private mecha companies compared to mecha manufacturing enterprises is in technological reserves and personnel training. With such a mechanical encyclopedia-like Fatty, everyone in the technical department could foresee significant improvements in their own skills.

As for the modification of [Vajra], it would undoubtedly become a classic in the mecha modification realm. Traditional methods of patching, replacing parts, changing engines, attaching wings, boosters, or modifying suspension and stability devices, were completely revolutionized. Although [Vajra] is a Special Type Mecha, this humanoid-to-beast mode transformation is not suitable for all mechas, but this does not detract from the significance of the modification. Every mechanic in the technical department was excited and proud to be personally involved in this work.

For their motherland, for the Imperial Family, and to service the renowned [Myth] Corps, everyone was filled with a sense of honor. Not to mention the excitement and fame that would follow the successful modification, enough to make any anticipation uncontainable.

Christina couldn’t describe her feelings that night. Although her face still wore that gentle and warm smile, her emotions had already reached a state of paradise. It was a wonderful pride of finally being able to do something crucial for her father, a thrill of hope that was firmly in her grasp. All of this was brought by the honest Fatty standing in front of her. Deep in her heart, Christina already regarded him as her best friend, a trustworthy, honest, and straightforward friend who had saved her family.

The time was tight. In ten days, the Military Department would organize a special expert review team to evaluate the modification. The [Vajra] modification task was split into several parts, and the technical department had completely ceased providing technical support for private mecha repairs. Under Dell’s arrangement, all personnel were divided into appropriate groups, working day and night on the modification. Since two other repair companies were simultaneously working on the same modification, Dell insisted that all personnel live and work in the technical department to prevent the leak of the modification scheme.

Tian Xingjian proactively took on the most critical task of the modification: the control system overhaul. This saboteur embedded within the Empire exhausted his wits in perfecting the control system, succeeding remarkably. On the surface, the control was more stable and smoother than before. However, without a hand speed of over twenty actions per second, it was simply a dream to operate this mecha proficiently. The [Myth] Corps would undoubtedly not notice this, as their soldiers’ hand speeds certainly surpassed twenty actions per second, and ordinary soldiers would not know what changes had been made to this mecha they had never encountered before.

This was the most important modification since Holy Knight Company’s establishment. The technical department’s lounge was already overcrowded. Apart from the original staff, about a dozen experienced technicians were temporarily drawn from the workshop. Each person was in an exhausted yet excited state. As a private mechanic, how many opportunities to earn such merit could one have in their lifetime?

On the ninth day, when the refurbished [Vajra] completed the final system testing and stood in the maintenance station, some mechanics even shed tears. A masterpiece, this was a true masterpiece. What stood before everyone was a beast-shaped mecha brimming with masculine strength. The initial odd figure of a long body with short legs had been transformed into a typical beast-shaped mecha form, as if it had never had a humanoid shape. It appeared inherently powerful and explosive, with its squatter forelegs and shorter, sturdier hind legs forming a leaning angle that made it look domineering, as if it could leap at any moment to tear apart any enemy in its path with its hands.

Christina quietly watched the mecha that held the future fate of her entire family. Her tired mouth finally curved with ease and joy, like splendid fireworks in the night sky heralding a serene dawn. She quietly left the technical department without bothering to call George. Suddenly, what she wanted most was to see the goofy and clumsy Zhang Yuan, the Fatty. How could he not be here on the day of the final testing?
