Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 155: Volume 3 Chapter 45: An Unsolvable Deadlock?_2

Fatty was not excited about the tenfold salary increase. He thought: ”Fuck that, it means I can only get one-tenth of a salary this month, these bastards are too greedy. Probation period, what do you take me for? Do you even allow probation?”

Jose did not see the joy on Fatty’s face, thinking that this Fatty was calm and used to the high salary of mechanics. He smiled slightly and pressed the communicator, instructing someone to take Fatty to his dormitory.

The person who came to take Fatty to his dormitory was an underling named Rahmon. He was tall and strong, with a full beard and hairy arms exposed. He seemed very deferential to Jose. He led Tian Xingjian through the repair workshop towards the dormitory, separated by a wall.

The dormitory environment was quite good, with a small garden outside several dormitory buildings, lush foliage and clear air. Fatty’s room was on the third floor of the innermost building, far from the noise of the repair workshop.

Opening the door, Rahmon eagerly helped Fatty carry his luggage into the room. The room had a large living room and a bedroom, specifically allocated for mechanics. The décor and furniture were very beautiful; there was a large screen TV, a computer assistant, and a fully automated kitchen.

Rahmon took over Fatty’s luggage, helping him arrange the dust-covered sofa and bed, and asked with a smile, ”Are you Mr. Zhang Yuan? Heavenly God welcomes you.” This was a secret code, and Fatty reacted immediately, casually responding with, ”Hehe, Heavenly God doesn’t welcome me, the True God welcomes me.”

Rahmon’s smiling face suddenly turned serious. He made a gesture for silence, listened for a moment, then faced Fatty and said, ”The King covers the tiger.”

”The Pagoda suppresses the demon!”

”Do you confess or not!”

”I’d rather die than confess!”

Answering the secret code, Fatty received the most sincere hug from Rahmon, who smelled of sweat. Fatty cursed internally, ”Damn Russell, you even found the ancient Earth contact code from thousands of years ago, I’m really impressed!”

Night fell.

Ann Lei walked out of Yuna’s office, quietly sat on a bench by the academy’s fountain, watching the fountain constantly change shapes in the night sky. The colorful spotlights matched the music, dressing the fountain in a dazzling cloak, creating a dreamy confusion.

Ann Lei wrapped her coat tightly around herself, curling up on the bench.

In this chaotic world, she had seen too many scenes of life and death separation.

Unexpectedly, he went to such a dangerous place without leaving a word. Why did he leave at this time?

This coward, just because he didn’t dare face her, had to run away?

He... I... Milan

A knot that seemed impossible to untangle.

As long as he could come back alive, as long as there was time, maybe this knot could be untangled.

The fountain shut off. Ann Lei stood up and walked back to the office. The contact plan was still in the drawer.

No matter what the outcome with him, this time, she would fight alongside him.

”Fool...” Ann Lei murmured softly, ”Come back to me alive...”

Fatty began his life as a mechanic. Maybe Rahmon had informed other Freedom Front members hiding here, Fatty found that these people, besides treating the upper class with superficial respect, showed him a bit more friendliness.

Holy Knight Company’s business was doing great. The concentration of nobles and rich people in Tanville was extremely high, so all sorts of classic private mechas and flying cars could be seen here.

Beast-shaped models: [Godzilla][Lightning Tiger][Angry Bear]

Humanoid models: [Hurricane][Martial Artist][Fierce Fire][Paladin][Toksel]

Fatty even saw a limited edition insect-shaped [Seven-colored Mantis] produced in 2041.

From the types of mechas, there was no doubt that the mechas encountered here were much more varied than military mechas. Given that military mecha combat methods now overlapped with private mechas, some unique aspects of these mechas were indeed worth learning from. Fatty even felt that if private mechas were equipped with energy cannons and military equipment, they should be easier to modify than military mechas.

However, private mechas were designed with limitations for energy cannon usage, and in terms of materials, private mechas couldn’t compare to military mechas whose structure and quality were extremely stable and reliable. If private mechas could reach that level, these repair centers would be out of business.

Jose paid close attention to the performance of the new mechanic.

Although Christina showed great interest in him, it was Jose who decided to waive the standard assessment. If this mechanic was just a bragger, this flattery would backfire.

Fortunately, Fatty Zhang Yuan exhibited abilities that left Jose pleasantly surprised! Even extraordinarily surprised!

The Holy Knight Company divided mechanics into ten groups, not strictly based on professional ability level. The company had its own classification standards, mainly depending on skills, especially familiarity with mechas and solving technical problems.

The largest group was naturally Group 10, consisting mostly of junior or Level 1 mechanics. These were basically fresh graduates in their practical phase, having minimal exposure to mechas. Experience was crucial for a mechanic, even more important than a high-level mechanic’s license. Passing the mechanic level required theory, but without practical experience, they couldn’t solve even low-level problems, causing their certification to be ridiculed.

Jose knew since he saw Zhang Yuan carefully studying [Caelo] that this junior mechanic had abilities far beyond junior level, possibly at Level 3 or 4. Experienced mechanics who hadn’t undergone assessments were common in the trade. Jose understood long ago never to judge by appearances. A beautiful, delicate girl might be an expert in mechanical modifications.

Jose’s judgment was accurate. On Zhang Yuan’s first day at the repair station, Jose sensed vaguely that Fatty would surprise him.

Within just five minutes, Jose confirmed his judgment. Based solely on Zhang Yuan’s speed, he decided to transfer him to Group 9 in two days.

But by afternoon, seeing Zhang Yuan’s repair records, Jose knew this man at least deserved to be in Group 6. In just a few hours, his completed inspections and repairs were triple those of his co-workers.

As work was ending, Zhang Yuan casually solved a mecha’s difficult problem. Jose was almost restless. The [Assault Soldier] mecha had a loud engine and severe vibration during prolonged high-speed operation. The technical department was still discussing it, but the Fatty simply solved it by replacing the straight pipe of the purifier with a bent pipe, adding a loop.

Early the next day, the Holy Knight Company’s owner Christina received a report from Jose and a new contract prepared for Zhang Yuan. The new contract offered five times the previous treatment and suggested canceling the probation period.

”Getting such talent at such a critical time is Holy Knight’s luck.” Smiling at the report, the backstage owner Christina signed her approval.
