Chapter 164: Volume 3 Chapter 50 Modification Task

The mechanics on the side were having a heated discussion. Those who could enter the Technical Department were the top figures of the Holy Knight Company, with a deep understanding of private mecha, all nurtured and retained at great expense by the Holy Knight Company. Despite the tempting offers and solicitations from the mecha manufacturing enterprises eyeing them, so many people still chose to remain with the Holy Knight Company, proving that the company’s behind-the-scenes boss was not simple.

There was a legend in the Holy Knight Company that the Empire’s largest mecha company, Reilo Mecha Company, once tried to poach the most excellent mechanic, Dell, from Holy Knight Company. But at that time, Dell had already been promoted to Deputy Director of the Technical Department, and he was satisfied with both his working environment and salary, not wanting to go to the high-pressure Reilo Company. As a result, the wealthy Reilo HR manager tirelessly lobbied Dell, even visiting the Holy Knight Company with a very arrogant demeanor. When he stood in the lobby, he happened to meet Christina on her first day of work.

Christina just looked at the manager and said, ”Sir, this is not the Reilo Company. Our boss requests you leave.” The HR manager who poached employees on others’ turf turned red and white in the face and then left. Originally assigned to the Technical Department, Christina ended up standing at reception. This story spread widely through the company, making everyone think that the Holy Knight Company was extraordinary and its behind-the-scenes boss even more so. Whether it was knowing people well or rewarding ungratefulness with benevolence, Christina seemed to like her job. She stood at the reception for years, and later, when Prince George of the Empire was seen sending her flowers, Christina gradually became not only the dream lover of all unmarried mechanics but also a symbol of the Holy Knight Company.

Dell pulled the lever, and the robotic arm, like a long hand, transported him and Tian Xingjian in front of the [Vajra]. Pointing at the mecha, he said, ”This mecha, although military, is designed very close to private mecha except for the fire control system. However, it is said to have obvious flaws in combat. We haven’t determined what this flaw specifically refers to. Your input is needed for brainstorming. Take a look at the structure and share any views you have with the team.”

While speaking, Dell handed Fatty an electronic document. It was the structural diagram of [Vajra], which Fatty was very familiar with, as he had completely analyzed the structure of the two [Vajra] he had captured at the Miloke Laboratory.

As Boswell described, this thing was just ahead of the Federation in combat philosophy, but [Vajra]’s level wasn’t high in the integration of military and private mecha. Although the new generation of military mecha development focuses on close combat, their overall structure is distinctly different from private mecha. Long-range firepower energy, fire control, and defensive systems still play a very important role in combat. This [Vajra] mecha not only wastes a lot of space and energy but also has two major flaws: inadequate protection for the drive system and insufficient explosive power from stillness to top speed.

As for the combat flaws mentioned by Dell, Fatty understood them even more deeply, having engaged in combat with this gorilla-type mecha several times. As an opponent, he was more aware of its flaws. This mecha has a tall body with short legs, fast speed but unbalanced proportions, with large exposed areas on the front and back. These key areas rely on thick external armor for compensation, which results in excessive weight and poor balance. Controlling the mecha’s inertia in high-speed close combat is extremely difficult.

While frowning and pretending to study the electronic document seriously, Fatty listened intently to the mechanics’ discussions beside him. Everyone’s views seemed consistent, with many criticisms of the tall body and short legs. Structural issues like these are almost impossible to remedy through modifications. The current topic of discussion didn’t involve modifications at all but was focused entirely on attacking and criticizing this design.

Christina stood quietly in a concealed observation room, watching the Technical Department footage on the virtual screen and listening to the mechanics’ discussions on [Vajra]’s analysis. She particularly enjoyed standing quietly on the side, hidden behind the scenes, while having a comprehensive grasp of everything.

Beside her stood a handsome man. Anyone who saw him would be extremely surprised, for he was Prince George, the Crown Prince of the Gazalin Empire.

George stood with his hands behind his back, quietly smiling with an elegant demeanor.

The prince, rumored to be indulgent in a life of debauchery among the populace, bore no resemblance to the man standing here now.

George obviously noticed Tian Xingjian, who was studying the mecha structural diagram seriously. After watching for a while, he gently asked, ”Who is that mechanic?”

Christina replied, ”His name is Zhang Yuan, a new junior mechanic.”

”Oh.” George didn’t seem particularly surprised.

”He has very unique insights on mecha modification, and his technical skills are excellent. However...” Christina slightly curved the corners of her mouth, a suppressed smile in her voice, ”He seems very innocent, knowing nothing but mechanics.”

”Is that so?” George looked at Christina with a teasing expression, ”It’s rare. This is the most detailed comment I’ve ever heard you give on someone.”

Christina turned to pour herself a cup of coffee and said lightly, ”Oh? You seem to have heard me comment on many people.”

George smiled slightly, appearing accustomed to Christina’s tone. He shrugged his shoulders helplessly and poured himself a cup of coffee, smiling, ”You really are stingy. A guest comes and you don’t even offer a cup of coffee. You speak the same way too. Do you remember what you said about me?”

Christina drank her coffee, not looking up, ”I don’t remember.”

George laughed, ”The first time I sent you flowers, you only said two words, ’Boring.’

”Hmm, and those words still apply.”

”Alright,” George put down the coffee in his hand, made a surrender gesture, and said with a bitter smile, ”Dear Tina, don’t forget we are partners.”

”Dear Prince, you better call me Christina.” Christina lifted her head and frowned, ”Only my father calls me Tina.”

George helplessly raised an eyebrow and changed the subject, ”Speaking of your father, how is General Gordon’s health?”

”Thanks for your concern. My father is in good health, and he asked me to send his regards to you.” Christina’s face still looked as indifferent as ever.

George sighed and smiled, ”General Gordon is my most intimate friend. I didn’t expect his daughter always finds me displeasing.”

Christina slightly smiled and said, ”Since you are my father’s friend, should I call you Uncle George?”

George was speechless and finally laughed, ”It’s really foolish for men and women to bicker.” He stood up and continued, ”I should take my leave. The mecha modification involves many aspects. I hope it can be handled well. Inform me promptly if there are any updates.”

”No need to see me off.” Christina continued drinking her coffee.

George stood there, dumbfounded. He couldn’t comprehend when he had offended Christina.

”Is it true that the woman you can’t get is always the most enticing?”

He left the observation room with a bitter smile.

The verbal attacks on the Vajra’s designer finally ended. Only Fatty knew that the reason for designing a short-legged structure was mainly to meet the needs of the leg’s hybrid power drive system. The new tracked hybrid drive could only choose such a structure to maintain stability.

It was time for modification suggestions. The mechanics finally quieted down, everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. The structural changes were too complicated, the technical department of ordinary repair companies simply did not have such strong technical capabilities. The involved subjects were too numerous, and it was impossible to complete without the cooperation of a team of a thousand people.

If considering only the modifications, such a structural problem was almost unsolvable.

The most troubled was Dell. As the head of the technical department, he knew that the success of this mecha modification was crucial for Holy Knight Company. If successful, Holy Knight Company would certainly occupy a priority position in the subsequent military department takeover, taking on tasks focused on the research and modification of advanced military mechas, which would be an unimaginable help for the company’s technical strength accumulation. If the modification failed, the future would be spent revolving around low-level standard mechas, and the senior mechanics of the technical department would be reassigned elsewhere, reducing Holy Knight Company to a third-rate enterprise.

Everyone wore a pained expression.

Fatty was also in pain. His pain wasn’t about finding a solution; he already had no less than ten feasible solutions during the structure analysis in the laboratory. His pain was in designing a modification plan that seemed feasible and reliable but would lead to significant losses on the battlefield. Letting such a good opportunity slip by was simply intolerable.

Christina stood in the observation room, quietly watching the silent mechanics in the technical department. Her beautiful and composed face unconsciously showed a trace of anxiety. Her father Gordon’s downfall caught her off guard. If she wanted to protect the entire family in the upcoming purge, the only way was to let Emperor James know that both Gordon and his daughter were still important to the Gazalin Empire. The one who could speak most effectively before James was not the crown prince George, but Reinhardt, the legion commander of the Myth Legion, a loyal follower of the Imperial Family, and the only Level 9 Mecha Warrior in Gazalin.

Christina walked out of the observation room. She decided to personally get involved in the modification work. This Vajra was the last hope for her and her father.
