Reborn As Super Heiress

”Go on.”

Huo Sining waved her hand, then suddenly thought of something and smiled. ”Today it’s a good thing you were around. I bothered you twice in one day, I do feel a bit bad about it. I’ll remember this, and another day I’ll properly thank Director Guo!”

The corner of Guo Dongliang’s mouth twitched. In his heart he thought, as long as you don’t cause trouble for me, that’s enough. When you’re on my turf, I’ll treat you like an ancestor and worship you, but if you stir up some incident and drag me down with you, then the seat under my ass won’t be so steady anymore!

Of course, there was no way Guo Dongliang would dare say this in front of Huo Sining.

Leaving aside that these two scammers were originally supposed to be arrested by their Public Security, just that gambling stone shop of Lai Wenguang’s—such a huge problem having gone unnoticed—if the media really dug it up and exposed it, the one who’d end up in serious trouble would still be him.

So if you really calculated it, the two calls Huo Sining made to him today actually counted as helping him out. Otherwise, once things fermented, it would more or less have some impact on him.

Guo Dongliang was a very sensible man; otherwise there was no way he could have climbed to his current position with no background at all. So when he heard what Huo Sining said, he didn’t get carried away. He still smiled modestly and said:

”What are you talking about? If we’re really going to tally it up, it was you who gave me the leads today. Otherwise both these cases would’ve cost us a lot of brainpower and we still might not have caught them. I should be the one thanking you!”

Huo Sining laughed. ”Alright, stop trying to muddle through with me. I’ve taken note of this favor. I heard your girl is majoring in film and television performance?”

Guo Dongliang was stunned for a moment, then a wry smile appeared on his face:

”Where did you hear about that? Sigh, sons grow up and can’t be kept, daughters too—once their wings harden they won’t listen to the family anymore. My daughter has loved chasing stars since she was little. When the college entrance exam finally came around, I don’t know who filled her head with ideas, but she actually decided she had to apply to some film academy and refused to go to any other school.”

”That business has really given me a headache. Opposing her was useless; I could only let her have her way. At first I thought once she got into that school, after a year or two she’d lose interest and then we could have her switch majors and try something else. Who knew the kid would be so stubborn, single-minded about becoming some kind of celebrity, she’s got me and her mother worried sick!”

Huo Sining smiled. ”There’s nothing wrong with being a star. This industry makes money and it’s glamorous. If a young girl likes this line of work, why not let her give it a try?”

Guo Dongliang said helplessly, ”How can something like that be so easy? You might not know this, but my wife and I are just ordinary folks, no background at all. Even now, this director’s chair I’m sitting in, I’m sitting on it trembling, like walking on thin ice.”

”She’s just a little girl blindly charging into the entertainment circle; who knows how many losses she’ll have to suffer. As her father I can’t even serve as her backing; I can’t help her with anything. In the future, even if she suffers losses in that circle, all I can do is swallow my broken teeth along with the blood.”

”It’s not like I really want to stop her either. This child has grown up and it’s rare for her to have a dream like this. Which parent doesn’t want to help their child realize a dream? But the entertainment industry is a big dye vat. My daughter is so clean and pure—how can I let her enter that circle?”

Listening to him, Huo Sining also felt a lot of emotion. Parents’ hearts are all the same under heaven. Guo Dongliang’s worries were justified, but when a child is determined to do something, no matter how their parents oppose it, until they’ve crashed headfirst and are covered in bruises, they absolutely won’t turn back!

The reason Huo Sining suddenly asked about his daughter wasn’t without purpose. She of course understood why Guo Dongliang felt this way. Although he was the director of the Xicheng Public Security Bureau, that was only a minor post. Compared with those hereditary families in the Imperial Capital, his position really didn’t amount to much.

When it came time to run into one or two tricky figures, all Guo Dongliang could do was let himself be kneaded like dough in their hands, with no power to fight back at all.

Given the favor he’d done her today, Huo Sining didn’t mind sending him a little reassurance.

”Director Guo, adults really shouldn’t interfere too much in the world of children. Who’s to say she won’t really carve out a path for herself?”

”Of course, your worries are valid too. As it happens, even though I’m not exactly an insider in that circle, I once acted in a movie for fun, and I do know a few people in that industry more or less. I’ll give them a heads-up, have them keep an eye out. With them escorting her, your daughter will be spared a lot of detours!”

The moment these words left her mouth, they gave Guo Dongliang quite a shock. He jerked his head up and asked in disbelief, ”The acquaintances you mentioned are...”

Huo Sining smiled, knowing he was uneasy, and didn’t hold back. She said directly:

”The hidden boss behind Yulong Entertainment is a friend of mine. You should know Director Zheng, Zheng Lixiang, right? In the past couple of years her company has put out quite a few films and TV dramas that have all won awards; their development is going pretty well right now. If your daughter wants to sign with an entertainment company, she can consider going to hers.”

”I don’t know many actors in that circle, but the few I do know all have a bit of influence. I’ll also give them a word. When necessary, they’ll definitely step up and won’t let your daughter suffer any unfairness.”

Guo Dongliang didn’t know much about celebrities in the entertainment industry, but when he heard Huo Sining mention the boss of Yulong Entertainment, his heart skipped a beat.

With the president of an entertainment company providing cover, his daughter would basically be holding an immunity card. As long as she didn’t offend some truly big shot, she would definitely be safe and sound in that circle!

This delighted Guo Dongliang, and his gaze toward Huo Sining was full of gratitude:

”Miss Huo, this... I really don’t even know how to thank you. This will definitely cost you some face, maybe even quite a bit of trouble, but I’ll still have to thicken my skin and ask this favor of you. My girl’s future—I’m counting on your help!”

Huo Sining laughed. ”Don’t. This won’t be any trouble for me, it’s just a word. Take it as me returning the favor you did for me today. I’m someone who keeps clear accounts of favors and grudges. You helped me, so I don’t mind helping you once. You don’t have to dwell on it.”

”But don’t spell this out to your daughter. As long as you know she won’t be wronged in the entertainment industry going forward, that’s enough.”

”She’s still young; she doesn’t have much experience or grounding. If she knows someone is shielding her, who knows what changes that’ll cause in her mindset. She might start feeling she can do whatever she wants, take everything for granted, and then slack off when it comes to her craft.”

”Since she likes this industry, just let her throw herself into it wholeheartedly. Who knows, she might become a top star someday. You shouldn’t interfere too much.”

Guo Dongliang nodded in agreement and thanked Huo Sining over and over again before finally leaving, taking along his officers and those two scammers.
