Reborn As Super Heiress

The couple stared dumbly at Doctor Su, and for a moment, the atmosphere became strangely silent.

The rest of the Gu Family didn’t know what Gu Xu and Huo Sining were worried about. Seeing the young couple’s reaction, they thought the two were shocked by the unexpected joy, and were quite amused.

Standing by, Chen Yu couldn’t help but laugh, covering her mouth:

”My sister-in-law must be startled by the news. It’s really nothing to be afraid of. Having a baby isn’t as scary as you think. When I was pregnant with Chengxuan, it was a complete surprise. Now, see how grown my Chengxuan is.”

Little Bun Chengxuan didn’t understand what the adults were talking about, but when he heard his mom mention him, he nodded supportively.

Normally, seeing the cute and endearing little one, Huo Sining’s heart would melt, and she’d squatted down to pinch the little one’s round cheeks a few times.

But right now, tears wouldn’t even come if she tried, and she had no mind to tease the Gu Family’s great-grandson.

If she really was pregnant, that would be a real big deal!

Huo Sining’s heart cried out nonstop, ”It’s over, it’s over, this time something major is really going to happen!”

The elders of the Gu Family were full of joy, thinking that the young daughter-in-law was pregnant too, and in over eight months, they’d have another grandchild to hold. The elders were uncontrollably happy, especially Master Gu, who wanted to grab the living room phone to notify his old friends of the good news.

Doctor Su saw the strange expressions on Huo Sining and Gu Xu’s faces and didn’t say anything, simply opened the medicine box and handed a box of pills to Huo Sining:

”Of course, checking the pulse can only give an approximate judgment. To be sure, it’s best to verify with instruments. Also, I think you might need this now.”

What Doctor Su handed to Huo Sining was a pregnancy test stick.

Mrs. Gu and Mrs. Gu had been somewhat skeptical of what Doctor Su said, but seeing the pregnancy test stick, their eyes lit up:

”Yes, yes, checking the pulse may not be accurate. It’s best to test it. Huo girl, go on and test it!”

Upon seeing the pregnancy test stick, Huo Sining felt utterly despaired. But seeing the eager faces of the Gu Family, she couldn’t show her strong rejection, and could only walk to the bathroom as told.

After waiting for several minutes, the bathroom door was finally opened by Huo Sining from the inside, and everyone’s eyes were fixated on her and the stick in her hand.

However, when the door opened and Huo Sining stepped out with a face like she’s eaten something unpleasant, the previously jubilant mood of the Gu Family felt like a cold splash of water.

Seeing her pale face, Mrs. Gu’s heart sank; did Doctor Su’s pulse check not get it right, and the daughter-in-law isn’t pregnant?

Mrs. Gu had a similar thought but felt self-reproach first. If she had known Doctor Su’s medical skills were so unreliable, she should have found a better doctor. Now, they’ve got a young doctor here, leaving everyone disappointed.

That would be fine, but it placed such a heavy mental burden on the granddaughter-in-law. It might lead to a misunderstanding, thinking the Gu Family was pressuring her to hurry up and get pregnant, causing discord between the young couple.

With this thought, Mrs. Gu approached with a smile and comforted, ”Girl, if you’re not pregnant, you’re not pregnant. You’re still young, only twenty, and you just got married. Enjoy your couple’s world first, have some fun. Once you’ve had enough fun, then consider having kids. Ours is not a traditional family; let nature take its course when it comes to adding children.”

Huo Sining felt a surge in her heart at Mrs. Gu’s words, not because of anything else, but because she thought Mrs. Gu’s words were absolutely right.

However, even if the words were right, what use were they? Huo Sining lowered her head at the two clear lines on the pregnancy test stick, feeling utterly desolate.

Heaven is plainly teasing her. She hasn’t enjoyed enough couple’s time, hasn’t had enough fun, wants to adventure... and then suddenly this knocking surprise?

”Grandma, you misunderstood, it’s not that I’m not pregnant; the pregnancy test shows positive—”

Before Huo Sining finished her sentence, Mrs. Gu snatched the pregnancy test stick from her hand.

Seeing it, Mrs. Gu’s face lit up with a smile: ”Two lines, it means pregnant! Why put on such a face when you’re pregnant? Are you deliberately misleading us? Even joking, that’s not how it’s done. When you’re pregnant, just say so. No need to make such a fuss, making us worried it was a false alarm!”

Huo Sining was on the brink of madness, unable to explain after Mrs. Gu’s remarks, she could only look at Gu Xu for help.

She originally thought it was just a casual pulse check by a family doctor, not necessarily confirming pregnancy, but now the pregnancy test results dashed her last hope.

At this moment, Huo Sining was utterly frantic, wanting to drag Gu Xu away from the Gu Family, find a secluded spot and discuss countermeasures.

Knowing the news, with the boasting skills of Master and Mrs. Gu, possibly within hours, the entire Imperial Capital, no, more likely all of China would know she’s pregnant.

This is truly tragic news; at a time like this, Huo Sining realizes, being a celebrity isn’t all that great. A celebrity’s private affairs are randomly spread until the whole of China knows, blown out of proportion, even closely scrutinized by many unrelated people.

Huo Sining felt her blood freeze. If she ends up pregnant for one, two, even three years without producing anything or delivers an egg instead of a baby, that would be truly interesting!

The extent of the development of this matter was beyond her imagination. But she was sure it would be more serious and frightening than any consequences she could ever imagine. Just the thought gives her chills, and she almost instinctively shook her head to dispel those terrifying imaginations.
