Reborn As Super Heiress

”If you can’t track down the guy in the baseball cap, then track the cars. Write down these license plate numbers, follow the routes these cars took, check whether any of them moved abnormally, and finally see if anyone got out of the car or switched cars midway. Once you find anything, report to me immediately.”

Calm as ever, Gu Xu recited the plate numbers of the five cars to Yu Fei. On the other end, Yu Fei didn’t even ask what exactly had happened. He’d always been highly efficient at this sort of thing, and almost the moment Gu Xu finished issuing his orders, his people were already flying over the keyboards.

Hacking into a local traffic surveillance system really wasn’t much of a challenge for Yu Fei, and since Gu Xu had already given him a specific time frame and plate numbers, digging further was basically no trouble at all.

In less than five minutes, he’d quickly locked onto the driving trajectories of those cars, and after a final round of filtering, narrowed the target down to a sedan.

”After this car drove out, it deliberately skirted several monitored areas along the way, like it was trying to hide something. In the end it cut across a narrow alley and stopped in a commercial market, and it just so happened to park in a surveillance blind spot.”

”I just checked the registered owner for this license plate and found that this car was reported scrapped six months ago and sent to a junkyard. Now the guy drives it into a farmers’ market—my guess is it’s just a smokescreen. I suspect he planned the route in advance. Once he got to the market, he definitely meant to switch cars on the spot.”

Once they reached this point, the trail basically went cold. Gu Xu’s face naturally turned a shade of iron blue, and everyone else didn’t look much better.

Everyone knew that in a farmers’ market people come and go in a constant stream, the flow is huge, and with such crowds and chaos it’s almost impossible to dig up any useful information. A place like that absolutely wouldn’t have any surveillance.

As soon as that guy in the baseball cap entered the market, he only needed to change his appearance a bit, then walk the kid out, and it would hardly draw any attention. Even without using a vehicle, he could easily get the child out.

In a sea of people, how were they supposed to find a one-year-old kid who couldn’t even speak clearly?

The hotel manager had already collapsed onto the floor in fright, completely at a loss as to what to do.

Huo Sining hadn’t been all that worried about the chubby little girl’s safety to begin with, but after hearing this, she couldn’t help starting to feel anxious.

The person who took the child was obviously acting with premeditation. It was very likely they were coming for her or for Gu Xu.

This thought made Huo Sining’s brows knit unconsciously.

No matter how sharp that little chub’s core was, she was still wrapped in a baby’s shell. If this person truly meant to go after her, the little chub might not be able to handle it.

At this point, a faint sense of regret rose in Huo Sining’s heart.

After all, it was still 2009. Computers were just starting to become common in many places, and in a small city like Fucheng, a lot of the Heavenly Eye cameras were far from perfect. Many areas were surveillance blind spots, nowhere near tightly monitored, so finding someone was extremely difficult.

If only she’d brought Qibao along this time. Qibao’s Thousand-Mile Guider could quickly track and search, with no need to rely on these unreliable cameras.

What worried Huo Sining even more was that right now they were completely at a loss, with no leads at all. As long as they couldn’t find out who took the child, they couldn’t formulate any real countermeasures.

”If we can’t get anything from the car, then we can only chase down the guy in the baseball cap. Yu Fei, see if you can pull all the surveillance around the farmers’ market perimeter and check whether there’s anything related to this guy. I’ll contact the Fucheng Police and have them get over to the market for a canvas as soon as possible.”

In a rush, Gu Xu hung up and immediately moved to contact the local police in Fucheng.

But before he could dial, Huo Sining’s phone rang. A text from an unfamiliar number suddenly appeared in front of her.

”Your daughter is in my hands. If you want her to live, you’ll do exactly as I say. Don’t blame me for what happens if you don’t!”

Attached to the text was an MMS, showing a chubby little girl sitting on a pile of discarded bricks.

An ordinary person would probably be scared out of their wits by this kind of message and obediently dance to the other side’s tune, but when Huo Sining saw it, the heart she’d been holding up actually settled.

Because that little girl sitting on the pile of bricks didn’t look scared at all—instead, she looked completely relaxed and calm.

Others might think it was because the child was too young, still in that ignorant stage, not even aware of what was happening, which was why she could stay so composed;

But Huo Sining knew very well that this chubby little girl was practically half an adult already, with no shortage of IQ. She definitely understood what was going on, yet she still obediently went with the guy in the baseball cap and got in the car. That meant one thing: she was certain she could handle it.

To cooperate with the little girl’s act, Huo Sining didn’t expose her, but instead obediently texted the ”kidnapper”: ”Okay, we’ll do whatever you say, just don’t hurt the child!”

Not long after her message was sent, another one came back: ”Prepare 100 million in cash. We’re only giving you three days. Don’t try any tricks, or we can’t guarantee the kid’s safety.”

When she saw this, Huo Sining realized these people were almost certainly coming for her. Still, she wanted to confirm, so she replied with a shocked tone:

”Bro, you must have the wrong person. A hundred million? Even if you sold me, I wouldn’t fetch that kind of money. Where am I supposed to get it?”

”Drop the act. You think we’re idiots? You’re Huo Sining—the woman who can casually gamble on a piece of raw jade and earn tens of millions, or dig up a few diamonds and sell them for several billion. And you expect us to believe you’re broke? A hundred million is just drizzle to you. I suggest you be smart and stop playing games. Our patience is limited. Piss us off, and nobody walks away happy!”

Reading this text, a cold light flashed in Huo Sining’s eyes.

As expected, they were here for her. The chubby little girl had just gotten caught in the crossfire.

She’d originally planned to find the girl as fast as possible and let the police deal with the kidnappers, but now she’d changed her mind. Since these kidnappers had come prepared and had even investigated her identity in advance, Huo Sining wasn’t in a hurry anymore.

In any case, strictly speaking, she wasn’t the one picking on them—they were the ones who came knocking to get beaten.

Since the chubby little girl wanted to play, she might as well let her have even more fun.
