Reborn As Super Heiress

Mrs. Gu noticed that Huo Sining had been busy with archaeological work in Fucheng recently, so she asked the housekeeper to stew an old hen to nourish her daughter-in-law’s body.

As soon as the stewed chicken was served, Mrs. Gu hurriedly scooped a large bowl of chicken soup for Huo Sining.

”Drink up quickly, this chicken soup has been simmering for several hours. I’ve skimmed off all the fat, so it’s really fresh!”

Mrs. Gu looked at Huo Sining with a face full of affection, her gaze filled with anticipation as she waited for Huo Sining to drink the bowl of chicken soup.

Whenever Huo Sining visited the Gu Family, Mrs. Gu would make various soups for her to drink, which all tasted very nice. So when she saw the chicken soup, Huo Sining indeed sensed her mother-in-law’s goodwill and thus picked up the chicken soup, preparing to drink it.

Little did she know, as soon as the chicken soup entered her mouth, a wave of greasy smell hit her nose violently. For some reason, a sudden nauseating feeling surged from deep within Huo Sining’s heart. Her expression changed dramatically, and she quickly reached out to cover her mouth, ignoring the reaction of those at the table, and dashed toward the bathroom.

”Ugh—”

It was completely uncontrollable; a wave of acidity surged directly from her stomach. Huo Sining squatted in front of the toilet, vomiting violently.

Seeing this sudden situation, everyone at the table was somewhat caught off guard, including Gu Xu, who was stunned. But in the next second, he jumped up from his chair and ran straight to the bathroom where his wife was.

”Sweetheart, what’s wrong? Where do you feel uncomfortable?”

Gu Xu asked worriedly, patting Huo Sining’s back anxiously.

Huo Sining kept vomiting, feeling like she had walked through Yama’s Palace, completely exhausted, collapsing on the ground. For Gu Xu’s question, she couldn’t muster any strength to answer and could only wave at him, indicating she was alright.

Seeing his wife’s complexion ashen and lifeless, looking nothing like ”nothing’s wrong”, Gu Xu suddenly grew anxious, picking up his phone to call the family doctor.

Several women sitting at the table came over at this point. Mrs. Gu, Mrs. Gu Senior, and Chen Yu were all experienced, and as soon as they saw Huo Sining’s state and then looked at the still steaming chicken soup on the table, their eyes lit up in unison, especially Mrs. Gu Senior and Mrs. Gu, who almost had their eyes sparkling.

”Yes, call the doctor, call the doctor! Don’t call Doctor Chen, get Doctor Su over here!”

Mrs. Gu Senior directly shouted at Gu Xu.

Gu Xu was a bit puzzled, as Professor Chen was his grandfather’s exclusive doctor, who had been responsible for his grandfather’s health and was very skilled.

But Doctor Su was just a gynecologist who occasionally came to the house to do regular check-ups for the ladies. Her skills were quite ordinary—why didn’t grandma tell him to call Professor Chen and instead asked for Doctor Su?

Gu Xu looked at Mrs. Gu Senior with suspicion.

Chen Yu, seeing this, curled her lips and patted Gu Xu’s shoulder, smiling: ”If Grandma says so, she naturally has her reasons, let Doctor Su come!”

Gu Xu was not dumb; seeing the mysterious smiles on the faces of the women in the family, which showed no concern for Huo Sining’s condition, his mind paused, and a sudden realization flashed through his mind.

”Sister-in-law, are you saying—”

Gu Xu’s eyes widened in disbelief, looking down at his wife with a glance. Soon a look of joy flashed in his eyes, he eagerly picked up his phone to call Doctor Su.

Once the call connected, Gu Xu spoke a bit incoherently: ”Doctor Su... I... Can you come to the old residence... My wife is sick... No, maybe there’s a situation... Yes, please come quickly...”

After hanging up, Gu Xu felt unsure of where to place his hands. Mrs. Gu looked at her son’s silly demeanor, lifted her head in annoyance, and told him:

”What are you standing idle for? Go get some fresh water so your wife can rinse her mouth and help her to the sofa to rest.”

”Right, right...”

Gu Xu was reminded by Mrs. Gu, and he finally reacted, slapping his forehead, turning to rush to the kitchen.

The housekeeper was already walking over with a cup of fresh water, and Gu Xu hurriedly helped Huo Sining up from the floor, handing her the water cup.

Huo Sining was so weak from vomiting, she drank a sip of fresh water from Gu Xu’s hand, rinsed her mouth, and swallowed a few more sips to suppress the feeling in her stomach, finally letting out a long sigh, feeling like she was alive again.

Seeing his wife no longer having the urge to vomit, only then did Gu Xu relax, carrying her back to the sofa and covering her with a blanket, though his eyes were still staring fixedly at his wife’s belly.

Not only Gu Xu, but the other members of the Gu Family, including Master Gu and Mr. Gu, also looked at Huo Sining with anxiety, while Mrs. Gu Senior was pacing in the living room, muttering incessantly: ”Why isn’t Doctor Su here yet?”

Previously, squatting in front of the toilet and vomiting violently, Huo Sining hadn’t noticed the reaction of the Gu Family, so she didn’t know what was happening.

Now sitting on the sofa, seeing the Gu Family’s gazes all fixed on her, each person with an odd look in their eyes, Huo Sining suddenly felt something was off, a kind of creepy feeling, couldn’t help but huddle closer to Gu Xu, carefully whispering in his ear:

”Why are your parents staring at me?”

After asking this, Huo Sining suddenly remembered her vomiting incident in front of the toilet, her expression changed, realizing her behavior earlier might have been impolite, possibly making everyone lose their appetite and not wanting to eat anymore.

Thinking this way, Huo Sining suddenly felt a bit embarrassed, her face turned sheepish, and she quickly said to her mother-in-law:

”Mom, I really didn’t mean to, the chicken soup is delicious, I’m not being picky, it’s just that my stomach was feeling a bit off due to the cold, which is why I lost control earlier. Grandpa, Grandma, why don’t you go eat first? Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine after some rest.”

She felt the explanation must be made, as after all, her mother-in-law had kindly made the soup, yet she was so dismissive as to vomit immediately, her mother-in-law might have thoughts about it.

Huo Sining felt very anxious and looked at Mrs. Gu apologetically.

To her surprise, this sincere apology was met with smiles from the elderly without a hint of anger, instead reassuring her repeatedly: ”It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s normal, you don’t need to feel burdened, we understand, we understand.”
