Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1286: Chapter 1282: Reaping What One Sows

The Quality Supervision Bureau rushed to the scene to conduct a survey as soon as possible and quickly contacted the design, construction, and supervision parties of Hongjiang Bridge. Meanwhile, the media promptly headed to the accident scene and Liu Group, hoping to interview more valuable news.

”Ningning, quickly watch the morning news. Haha, this Liu Family really brought it upon themselves. I was thinking about teaching them a lesson, but it turns out we don’t even have to lift a finger. Heaven is taking care of them for us!”

Huo Sining was having breakfast when suddenly Su Qingqing rushed down from upstairs.

She turned on the tablet and tuned into a TV news live broadcast channel. It was the morning news hour, and a host on TV was passionately commenting on the construction company behind the Hongjiang Bridge collapse, revealing even more inside information.

Huo Sining was stunned. She returned from Mizhi to Yangon yesterday, reached the hotel by eleven at night, washed up, and slept immediately. She didn’t have the time to ask Gu Xu about the Liu Family, and now such big news came in the morning.

Unlike previous bridge collapse incidents where the media collectively remained silent, this time, it seemed as if they were provoked and burst out with information.

It wasn’t just the issue of Hongjiang Bridge; all sorts of negative news emerged about Liu Family’s financial deficits over the past two years, Liu Jewelry selling counterfeit products, and several Liu-affiliated companies holding unqualified licenses.

The evidence presented by those anonymously posting was very real, without the slightest indication of fabrication. Coming out at such a time, the intention was obvious: to bring the Liu Family down.

”Isn’t this going too far?” Huo Sining couldn’t help but express her concern to Gu Xu.

She’s not a ruthless person and is used to leaving some leeway. Facing such a series of negative news now, the Liu Family had no way to turn things around.

Although she knew that Liu Family deserved it, deep down she still felt guilty. These events happened because of her personal motives, not truly for justice.

Moreover, those who fell from the collapsed bridge were innocent.

Gu Xu chuckled helplessly, ”Wife, you wouldn’t think that I caused the bridge to collapse, would you?”

”Isn’t it?” Huo Sining asked suspiciously, doubting that such a coincidence could happen in the world.

Gu Xu replied exasperatedly, ”You’re thinking too much. Even if your husband were incredibly powerful, he wouldn’t be so cold-bloodedly psychotic. Of course, it wasn’t my people who tampered with the bridge. I only learned about Hongjiang Bridge’s collapse from the news this morning! Committing too many wrongdoings leads to one’s downfall; even heaven is helping us. The Liu Family brought this upon themselves!”

Huo Sining breathed a sigh of relief. Knowing about the bridge collapse early in the morning had weighed heavily on her heart.

If it meant sacrificing so many innocent lives just to retaliate against the Liu Family, she would rather let them continue their antics. They were merely a bunch of clowns causing her minor trouble but no substantial harm. She wasn’t willing to bear the karmic burden for such personal vendettas.

Now knowing it wasn’t Gu Xu who did it relieved some of Huo Sining’s distress. She smiled and said, ”Those posting people were your find, right? Where did you find such talented people? Those posts are vivid and indignant, almost as if they were studying online users’ psychology.”

Gu Xu displayed a hint of pride, ”I had someone write them a while ago. I planned to create some buzz today and then release the posts legitimately. It turned out I didn’t need to make any moves; heaven handed us the pillow when we were sleepy. With the bridge collapsing and such a big scandal hitting Liu Group, plus our added fuel to the fire, no matter how tough Liu Chongren may be, he won’t be able to hold up any longer!”

Su Qingqing was gaping as she listened, utterly stunned, ”You had those posts put out? Are they real or fake? Where did you get the evidence? It wouldn’t hold up to scrutiny if it were fake.”

Gu Xu snorted, ”Why would we need fake evidence? It’s all real information. As for where it came from, I picked it up under Hongqiao while strolling a year ago.”

Su Qingqing thought Gu Xu was joking with her and got angry, ”Picked up under Hongqiao? Are you kidding a three-year-old? There’s a river under Hongqiao; where were you strolling? Besides, would anyone let you pick up such crucial evidence?”

Gu Xu shrugged and smiled faintly without explaining, while Huo Sining, knowing about the hard drive incident, also smiled without saying a word.

When Liu Yunhui arrived at the company, he found the lobby crowded with reporters. If it weren’t for the secretary’s previous warning call, he would have rushed in and been surrounded by reporters.

”Chairman, a crowd of reporters has barged into the company lobby, and the security department can’t stop them.”

”There’s a report from the accident scene. The death toll has reached seven. The director of the Quality Supervision Bureau has called, requesting you make a public statement.”

”Liu Group’s stock keeps falling, and at this rate, it might hit the lower limit by tomorrow.”

Inside Liu Group, chaos reigned. With things at this stage, everyone felt fearful and anxious. Seeing Liu Yunhui arrive, they all felt they had found their backbone.

But could this backbone truly be reliable? Liu Yunhui himself couldn’t figure out what was happening.

Seeing the situation getting more and more out of hand, Liu Yunhui arranged for urgent company PR while anxiously calling higher-ups.

He wanted to find out who was orchestrating everything behind the scenes.

Unfortunately, Liu Yunhui was too naive. His call went through, and Director Ding answered, but he only responded perfunctorily, skirting around the issue without getting to the point.

In such circumstances, self-preservation was most important. Despite his good relations with Liu Yunhui, Director Ding wanted to distance himself from this affair rather than involve himself in Liu Family matters.

Finally, unable to hold back, Liu Yunhui asked directly, ”Old Ding, can you give us some clues about who’s causing trouble behind the scenes?”

Director Ding felt helpless. The relation between officials and businessmen was inherently ambiguous. Although he and Liu Yunhui were college classmates and he often looked out for Liu Family over the years, he had benefitted considerably from Liu Group. Nonetheless, compared to his political career, this so-called friendship and benefits were inconsequential.
