The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Capítulo 1889: Chapter 1889: Compensation for Zhou Tiedong

Qi Lie let out a cold laugh and struck the gavel, “Chen Bing, even now you are still full of lies. Earlier when you confronted Zhou Tiedong, you already described in detail the appearance, material, and characteristics of the Jade Pot he embezzled. These features match exactly with the evidence Guo Zheng presented. How is it possible that there are two identical Jade Pots in this world?”

“I, I…” Chen Bing was at a loss for words.

Qi Lie continued, “You said you later bought another one. Then where is the proof for that subsequent Jade Pot? Where did you buy it from, and when did you buy it? I can summon witnesses to confront you. I suppose, even if you don’t have proof, a jade artifact worth three hundred taels would surely have documentation from the seller. Also, you said what Zhou Tiedong embezzled was your family heirloom. Since it was later replaced, how can it still be considered an heirloom?”

Qi Lie’s questions were sharp and direct. It was only then that Chen Bing realized the lord in the courtroom was not gentle, but rather exuded a chilling sternness that made one’s heart tremble.

His mind spun furiously, but the more it turned, the more dizzy he became.

The words he spoke started to be full of loopholes, Qi Lie’s patience ran out, he struck the gavel and angrily said, “It seems you don’t cry until you see the coffin, trying to argue and deceive even with conclusive evidence, disregarding the court. Guards, take him away, and give him a hundred lashes.”

“Yes.” Two officers came forward and dragged Chen Bing out.

No trace of color was left on Chen Bing’s face. A hundred lashes? He already felt half-dead from just ten lashes before, and trembled with pain even now. A hundred lashes would be deadly.

“Spare me, Lord, please spare me!”

Chen Bing’s pleas for mercy faded away, and soon the sound of lashes and miserable cries could be heard.

After just ten lashes, Chen Bing couldn’t bear it anymore and began confessing.

Qi Lie ordered them to bring him back; Chen Bing looked as if he was fished out of water, and was thrown directly to the ground.

He let out two cries of pain, unable to even get up from the ground.

Qi Lie looked down at him, “Do you confess?”

“Yes, I confess, I confess.”

“Very well, then explain clearly how you framed Zhou Tiedong.”

Chen Bing could no longer find any excuses, the pain prevented him from thinking clearly. Breathing heavily, he slowly and intermittently recounted the entire sequence of events.

Qi Lie nodded, and instructed them to meticulously record everything he said.

After it was written, it was presented to Chen Bing for review. After confirming it, Chen Bing stated it in front of everyone, and when no one objected, he was instructed to make his mark and sign it.

Qi Lie looked with satisfaction at the confession in his hands and said loudly, “Chen Bing, colluding with Constable Li of Chenggu County, falsely accusing the staff member Zhou Tiedong of the general store, causing him unjust imprisonment and loss of all his possessions. Now, with conclusive evidence, Zhou Tiedong is proven to be an innocent victim and is released without charges. The money the Zhou family compensated to the Chen family is to be fully returned, with an additional fifty taels of silver given to Zhou Tiedong as compensation for the physical and mental harm he suffered over these two months.”

Zhou Tiedong’s eyes widened, and he exchanged an excited glance with Wang Yue, both breaking into a broad smile, bowing together, “Thank you, Lord, for your discernment, thank you, Lord.”

The Chen family, upon hearing this, lost strength in their legs, nearly collapsing to the ground.
