The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1881: Chapter 1881: Destined to Be Continued

Chen Qiu no longer knew how she ended up at the government office; by the time she came to her senses, her father was already kneeling in the center of the hall, turning his head to look at her, inquiring with his eyes.

However, he was destined to be disappointed.

Chen Qiu lowered her head, not daring to meet Chen Bing’s eyes.

The hall was lined with officers on both sides, many people squeezed outside the courtroom, stared fixedly at what was happening inside.

With a series of sounds as the board hit the ground, Qi Lie came out dressed in official robes from the back room, sitting behind the desk.

He suddenly slapped the gavel, ”Who is present in this court?”

Shu Yu bowed, ”Wen’an County Lord, I accuse Chen Bing from Chenggu County of falsifying official documents for personal gain over thirty years ago.”

Qi Lie nodded, as if he didn’t know her at all, ”Oh, it’s the county magistrate. Someone, please arrange a seat for the Wen’an County Lord.”

Shu Yu had already prepared the complaint papers. As soon as she sat down, the papers were presented on the desk.

Qi Lie looked them over, then again slapped the gavel, glanced at Chen Bing trembling on the ground, and said, ”Chen Bing, is what is stated on this paper true? Do you understand the offense?”

”Lord, I didn’t, I am innocent.”

”Innocent?” Qi Lie maintained his serious expression, ”The details are quite clear on this paper, yet you claim innocence. Fine, I am not one to listen to one side only. So, start recounting exactly what happened over thirty years ago, beginning from the time you fled to Chenggu County. What really happened?”

Chen Bing swallowed hard, feeling somewhat relieved that Qi Lie hadn’t believed Shu Yu’s words outright and condemned him. He thought maybe it was Chen Qiu’s influence; otherwise, could he be allowed to argue like this?

So he steadied his mind, starting with the events of the past, ”Thirty-odd years ago, Fang Caixia and I were indeed husband and wife...After arriving in Chenggu County, I rescued a young lady from a wealthy family...”

”Lord.” Shu Yu interrupted him, ”Chen Bing’s words are full of inconsistencies and lies. He started off with falsehoods; can anything after be trusted?”

”Oh, how is he lying?”

Shu Yu then explained Chen Bing’s fear of water, while Qi Lie appeared thoughtful, ”If that’s the case, let’s prove whether he truly knows how to swim. Bring a bucket of water, have him try it.”

Chen Bing’s face changed dramatically, Shu Yu smiled brightly, see, some matters are destined to continue even if interrupted.

The officers quickly brought in a bucket of water with expressionless faces, and with a loud ’bang’ placed it in front of Chen Bing, commanded, ”Hold your breath.”

Chen Bing looked at the swaying water in front of him, clearly just a small bucket, clearly no different from daily washing, but he felt as though the water contained a giant man-eating serpent, and he dared not approach.

”No, don’t.” He shook his head desperately.

Qi Lie frowned, instructed the officers, ”Hold him down.”

The officers responded, and without a word pressed down on Qi Lie’s neck to immerse him into the bucket.

Chen Bing nearly wet his pants in fright, as his nose approached the water surface closer and closer, he couldn’t take it anymore. Trembling, he loudly said, ”Spare me, Lord; I fear water, fear water, the girl wasn’t rescued by me, but by Fang Caixia.”

With these words, the surrounding crowd let out a collective ’wow’.

Speculating that Chen Bing was lying was one thing, actually hearing him confess was another.
