Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 400: Chapter 381: He Is a Bad Person But a Good Husband

This was also a village, where Hu Si said her mission was located. After dropping Luo Qianqian and Feng at their destination, Hu Si drove away without the slightest hesitation.

The village was serene, with only a few scattered households, lacking that familiar neighborly vibe, yet smoke wafted from each chimney. Hu Si mentioned that the main body of villagers lived about a kilometer away from here, and these few households were newcomers.

”It must be this one,” Luo Qianqian murmured, glancing at the photo Hu Si had given her. There were no pictures of the house, but the car that was clearly visible from the entrance, parked in the courtyard, was one Luo Qianqian recognized.

Luo Qianqian didn’t understand why, if the location was known, they hadn’t captured him earlier?

She took out the photo to compare it with the car in the yard and nodded in confirmation.

Luo Qianqian followed Hu Si calmly as they continued forward, taking up positions further ahead. Since it was still daylight and there was a chance villagers could emerge, attracted by any noise and accidentally get hurt, that would be their mistake. Of course, it would be best to lure them to a deserted place and strike first.

The darkness of the night deepened, and apart from the occasional bark of a dog, all that could be heard was the sorrowful chirping of insects on a summer night.

Returning to the small courtyard, they were surprised to find the gate still open, the car inside, and even the lights on.

Both were slightly alarmed; could the person have already run away?

They peered over the wall into the house.

They saw the man from the photo, holding a piece of floral fabric, measuring it against a cat on the bed, displaying an unexpected gentleness that was in stark contrast to his fierce appearance.

After measuring, the man started to cut the fabric, and before long, a little dress for the cat was ready. He then dressed the cat, which struggled in vain before being set down at the doorway: ”Off you go, don’t come back.”

Then he looked towards the outside: ”Come in.”

Feng hopped off the wall confidently, pulling Luo Qianqian into the yard with him.

Luo Qianqian was taken aback; the situation seemed off. Wasn’t he supposed to be brutally wicked? How could this be?

The man poured a glass of wine and placed it on the table: ”Have a seat. Interested in hearing my story?”

”Sure,” Feng said, spreading his hands in a gesture of readiness.

The man smiled, ”Thank you. You’re the first ones willing to hear my story in so many years.” With that, he downed the glass of wine.

”Ten years ago, I had a beautiful wife and a pair of beautiful twin daughters.” Glancing at Luo Qianqian, he smiled, but the smile was strained, ”If they were alive, they’d be about as old as this young lady here, clever and cute. My wife was the most beautiful woman under the heavens, famous for her beauty, intelligence, and kindness. Everyone envied her, and in the end, she married a man like me. They said she was a flower stuck in cow dung, yet she alone claimed that I wasn’t cow dung but her guardian envoy.”

Everything was happy, but somehow her name reached the wrong ears. Day after day, they concocted reasons and excuses to loiter around my home.

I was a small businessman, always paying my dues without fail, yet they insisted I was a problem, beating me up, smashing my stall, and then demanding money from my wife. We had no money; whatever we earned was reinvested in buying and selling goods, and even the merchandise was destroyed by them.

They forced my wife to pay off the debts. I signed over our house to them, but they kept saying it wasn’t enough, and forcibly took my wife away to compensate.

What good could come out of being taken by them? I fiercely resisted and was knocked out by a chair swung by their leader.

When I came to, my twin daughters were beside me, crying themselves into unconsciousness and feverish. I had no money on me and could only carry both children to the hospital. Without money, they refused to administer treatment; I had no choice but to return home and beg from door to door.

By the time I managed to borrow some money, I heard from the neighbors that those bastards had forced themselves on my wife, and they were in the middle of that vile act right then and there.

Blinded by rage, I rushed home with my twin daughters, grabbed an axe, and charged towards that place.

Dozens of men....” At this point, the man was overwhelmed with tears, and a spurt of blood sprayed out, staining the table with blood. Luo Qianqian’s face turned pale, and she produced a silver needle, dipping it into the two remaining drops of liquor to test it — it turned black. The drink was poisoned.

”I chopped them all down, held my wife until morning, and because of that, my little twin daughters died due to lack of timely treatment.” The man clenched the photo in his hand, ”I hate them, but I hate myself as well. With the lives of more than a dozen people on my back, who else but you would come for me? But they wouldn’t listen to my grievances, so I killed them, moved on, and did the same thing in another place.”

”Now I no longer wish to hide. Even if I don’t take my own life, I won’t live much longer. I burn incense and recite scriptures every day, hoping that in the next life, my wife and daughters will be born into good families.”

The man looked at Hu Si and said, ”If you hadn’t brought your daughter, I might have wanted to have a go with you. But I don’t want to be responsible for a child, as young as my daughters, to have a murder on her hands.

During a check-up last month, the doctor said I wouldn’t last more than three months. You are just in time; this counts as your achievement, I suppose.”

The man stroked the children in the photo, then turned to Luo Qianqian, ”Listen to your mom and dad, only your closest kin won’t harm you.”

Luo Qianqian shed tears and nodded.

A cat jumped onto the table, still wearing that floral dress. The man chuckled, ”Didn’t I tell you not to come back? Go find a new owner.”

The cat’s eyes were filled with sorrow. In the next second, to the amazement of the three onlookers, the cat lapped up the two drops of liquor from the cup.

The man hugged the cat, ”Haha, at least I have you to accompany me on the Road to the Underworld; I won’t be lonely.”

Then he looked at Feng, ”Those people were guilty, they deserved to die, I killed them, I’m guilty, I deserve to die too. But my wife and daughters were innocent. People really shouldn’t do wrong, it truly lasts a lifetime.”

Feng hadn’t expected Luo Qianqian’s first mission to encounter such an event. Looking at a sobbing Luo Qianqian, he sighed softly and said, ”I will report your story.”

”Thank you,” the man smiled, ”Little sister, sister, uncle thanks you, for crying, for me, uncle, blesses, you, happiness, beauty, fulfillment, peace, a safe, life.” His last words came out rushed, but the next moment, the man slumped onto the table, motionless.

Luo Qianqian was taken aback, crying even harder.

The cat jumped out of the man’s embrace, stood on the table, and closed its eyes next to the man’s head.

”May your journey be peaceful.”

This man could hardly be called a good person, his sins were numerous, and he was involved in numerous murders.

Nor could he be considered a good father, as his twin daughters died due to missed treatment.

But he was a good husband, for his Beauty’s sake, he caused rivers of blood to flow.

Luo Qianqian didn’t know how beautiful that woman was, but it must be like when fires of war win a king’s smile for the Beauty.

Feng burned the family photo in a cup, turning it to ash, and poured it into the man’s pocket, saying, ”May your journey be peaceful.”

The two made a phone call. Hu Si couldn’t believe it when they finished; a problem solved without the use of needles and threads?
