Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 304: Chapter 286: Story and Accident

The youth gave a bitter smile and nodded, ”You’re quite imaginative for someone so young.”

Luo Qianqian felt helpless. Could she admit it was thanks to her past life’s influence, which led her to watch a bunch of anime, TV dramas, and novels? But she didn’t need to explain this to anyone.

The youth took out a wallet and placed it on the table. Looking at the not-insignificant amount of bills within, he slowly began, ”I can’t say I’m a good person, but I’m definitely not heartless to that extent.” As he spoke, his gaze fixed on Luo Qianqian, and in his eyes, Luo Qianqian saw clarity: ”I was an unwanted child when I was younger. Because I was older, no one wanted to adopt me, which led to the path I’m on now. Seeing those people destroy the homes of children who had families, naturally, I couldn’t tolerate it, but without evidence, even if you confront them, they can easily explain it away with a few words. I’ve been to the village they went to, and those villages are full of the elderly. There are hardly any women as most have gone out to work. All of these children not being in school, those who are, have already left.” As he spoke, tears streamed down the youth’s face, ”They could have had such bright futures, but they were ruined by these scum, ending up torn from their flesh and blood.”

At that moment, Luo Qianqian asked in a daze, ”Did you ever go to school?”

The youth was startled, wiped away the tears, and looked at Luo Qianqian with a profound gaze, ”No.”

”You could have called the police. Isn’t what you’re doing the same as not learning properly?” Luo Qianqian said in a low voice.

”Heh, you’re still young, you don’t understand human nature,” the youth shook his head. ”Those kind of people, even if they were executed a thousand, ten thousand times, it wouldn’t be lamented.”

Luo Qianqian rested her hands on her head, a look of conflict on her face: ”I was actually thinking of calling the police.”

”Do you have evidence? Without evidence, how would the police believe you?” The youth shook his head, recalling the past when he kindly informed the police about a thief, only to end up being suspected of being the thief himself.

”Child trafficking is unlike any other crime – it’s better to apologize for a wrongful kill than to let a single offender off.” Luo Qianqian looked up, her face resolute: ”I refuse to believe they could pin the blame on me as the trafficker.”

The youth shook his head: ”Once, I saw a child being snatched in broad daylight at the vegetable market. A seven or eight-year-old child, crying, saying he didn’t know the man, who then slapped him across the face, telling him not to cause a scene, not to trouble others, that not buying meant not buying, acting as if the child was being petulant. Bystanders all thought it was just a child throwing a tantrum. Who would intervene? With a woman coaxing by his side, saying she’d buy him something if he behaved, it all seemed like strict parents spoiling their child. If it weren’t for the child’s grandmother suddenly realizing he was missing and searching everywhere for him, and the child crying and breaking free to hug his grandmother, he might have been taken away.”

After hearing this, Luo Qianqian suddenly remembered news she had seen in her past life about single women being trafficked. They were all deceits, faking family connections, then taking the girls away under the guise of a heartfelt, persuasive argument amid a family squabble, with no onlooker daring to interfere. Women were taken away, and only upon the news reports did people suddenly realize and heighten their vigilance. But with so many true and false stories, how could one tell them apart?

”Actually, if there was a doctor, it would be easy. Just draw some blood for testing, and if there are sleeping pills, there’s definitely a problem.” Luo Qianqian whimsically suggested, yet she thought how could that be possible – this is a train, not an ambulance. How could it be so coincidental to have a doctor and a nurse on board with syringes and containers at hand?

”Actually, the simplest way is to make a phone call. No child is too young to recognize their parents’ voices. Moreover, if they don’t have a phone, how could it be that they are entrusted by others? Nowadays, phones are not just widespread, almost every adult has one.” The youth’s lips curled into a smile.

Luo Qianqian’s eyes lit up, and she nodded repeatedly, ”You’re right. Let’s go, let’s go to the police!”

”I’d rather not go,” the youth shook his head, looking at the wallet on the table. If he went, it would be difficult to explain the presence of that item.

Luo Qianqian pondered for a moment: ”You could say you found it and didn’t return it immediately because you found those people’s behavior odd.”

The youth was taken aback, looking at Luo Qianqian, ”But you saw everything, didn’t you?”

”What did I see? Without evidence, all I have are hearsay and rumors.” Luo Qianqian winked, her face full of cunning.

The youth nodded, ”You probably don’t want to show your face, do you?”

Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched as she looked down and tacitly agreed. She dared not just come forward casually; if she ran into someone she knew, that would be a disaster. Thinking of how widely Luo Xiying socialized, Luo Qianqian would not take the risk.

Meanwhile, Luo Xiying, whom she was deathly afraid of at the moment, was drinking tea across from Ye Liang, ”She really has grown capable, but it’s good that she gets out. After all, she now has the Wei Family behind her, so it wouldn’t be good if something happened to everyone.”

”Do you have the nerve to say that? You practically forced Ke Ji to become a top-notch senior brother, tutoring people so much he’s nearly gained twenty pounds.” Ye Liang snorted coldly, ”If those two hadn’t come to us on their initiative, would you have even considered contacting us?”

”I’m just marveling at the fact my little niece has grown up, but, does she have someone by her side?”

”Went with her, who knows.” Ye Liang nodded, then asked seriously, ”Have you found out anything?”

”Nothing...” Luo Xiying shook her head as she picked up her teacup, glancing sideways at Ye Liang, ”Are you feeling like I’m taking advantage of you?”

”Huh?” Ye Liang instinctively crossed his arms, but Luo Xiying glared him down and muttered, ”How’s that? How are you being taken advantage of?”

”Qianqian is my niece, and you are her brother, doesn’t that make you my nephew?” Luo Xiying looked at Ye Liang with amusement.

Ye Liang was speechless for a moment.

”Achoo.” Luo Qianqian, who was speaking fine, suddenly sneezed, rubbed her nose, and murmured, ”Who’s thinking of me now?”

”I can go for you, but you have to promise me one condition,” the youth said very directly to Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian was startled but didn’t agree immediately; the person’s background was unclear. If it was about money, that was fine, but other than that, it seemed there wasn’t much she could do with her current capabilities: ”You go ahead and say it first.”

”I think you’re a good person, and I want to follow you,” the youth said without hesitation.

Luo Qianqian felt breathless, choked by her own saliva, ”What did you say? Do you know what I do?”

”I’m not a child, why wouldn’t I know what I’m saying?” The youth snorted coldly. If it wasn’t for Boss’s orders, who would want to hang out with you, a little brat? Even if you are smart, so what? ”You are you, who else could you be? What you do doesn’t matter.” He wasn’t foolish enough to divulge everything he knew.

”You go ahead, come back if there’s anything,” Luo Qianqian said, pointing to a train conductor walking by in front of the car, ”This isn’t a shelter where every Tom, Dick, or Harry can come.”

The youth clenched his fist and nodded, appearing very calm on the surface.

He quietly stood up, took his wallet, and walked up to the conductor.
