The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 96: Chapter 96- Summons From the Royal Palace (2)

”About that offer, I think I’ll take you up on that later”.

”Oh my! So, Sir Reinhardt is finally willing to embrace me? Ah, I should thank my good fortune. To be embraced by a man as divine as you, I am already feeling the thrill just by imagining it. Ahnn~”

The demi human chief teased. However, seeing that Reinhardt was completely serious, she dropped the act.

”I know, the action your people took today will get you in quite some trouble, and I also know the reason why you brought our people here from the borderlands. Hehe, don’t worry, as I said before, all of us owe you a great debt of gratitude. No matter what you plan or intend to do in the future. We demi humans will always support you”.

That was all he needed. He thanked Zerina and parted ways with her.

Not far away from them, the couple Eldrin and Elina were waiting for the chief. The latter looked at the departing back of the knight, her mouth opened and closed ever so slightly as if wanting to say something.

”He is quite a splendid man, isn’t he? He may be a human, but he is also a savior of the demi human clan. Whether it be as a man or a warrior, I cannot help but look up at him. He is a man among man” Eldrin spoke, his eyes sparkling.

Erina nodded her head, recalling the bold act she had committed with that knight while her husband was asleep on that day.

.

Reinhardt returned back to his estate. That said, it was not like he had the free time to even sit in one place for long. After the expedition on Baron Chetak’s territory, he was busier than ever.

Not only did he need to look at piles of documents as tall as the ceiling of the office itself, which might contain clues related to the associates involved in the slave trading, but he also had to look after the mess that was Baron Chetak’s territory.

On top of that, the demi human’s village was also starting to grow. As the mediator between the two races, he also had to see that aspect.

”Thank goodness Ryley is here. If not for him, I would have really drowned.”

One day, while spending sleepless nights on his desk, the door to his room was knocked open.

”Ray... ahem, Father?!” Looking over, he saw that it was Raymond.

”You seem busy. Haha, so even the legendary level 10 Divine Paladin cannot fight against office work?”

Reinhardt made a bitter smile; he much preferred to fight against demons and demonic beasts than this.

The father and son duo exchanged some light conversation.

”About the rising ruffians in the city, you don’t have to worry about that part. I have come up with some initiatives and jobs for such people. Once they get the taste of hard work and what it feels like being a part of the society, they would naturally stop their illegal actions”.

As expected of the duke, he swiftly solved the problem that had been bugging him for a while. The Lumiose city Raymond and the ancestor of the Arcknight family built up, comparing that to the city Baron Chetak governed, he couldn’t help but sigh.

In fact, most of his headaches and work came from the mess the noble had created back in his city. Rampant corruption, power abuse, exploitation, and unhygienic conditions had created a den of plague and disease that claimed dozens of lives every day.

If kept unchecked, all the people there will die miserably and agonisingly. In a world where humans are slowly getting cornered by the forces of the demons, if the former themselves create conditions to shorten the number of humans, it would only spell the end of the world faster.

”Haha, I was just like you when my father gave me the responsibility to govern the territory, agonising and sighing all day long. Do not worry too much, it is in human nature to make mistakes and learn from them. I’m sure you will find a solution soon, you are my son after all”.

Reinhardt nodded his head.

”I hope they decide the next governor of the city soon. I am only doing this until then”.

Since he was the one who uprooted the current government in the city, it was only natural for him to look after it for a while.

”Haha, I wonder who will be the next governor.” Raymond looked at him with a smile that didn’t quite look like a smile.

”Anyways, I don’t think you have any time to sit in your office and agonise any longer,” saying that, he took out a letter from his pocket.

”Here, have a look at this, this letter came this morning”.

Reinhardt glanced at the letter only for the pen in his hand to drop the next second. The reason for that was because the seal used on the letter was from the royal family.

Raymond placed the letter on the desk ”It’s a summons. His Majesty and the Council of Elders have called for you. You are to report to the capital as soon as possible”.

So it finally came huh. He was kind of expecting one to come ever since he returned from his expedition from the Toto village. His actions against the Barony of Chetak had hastened his summons.

Reinhardt stood up from his chair, donned his jacket, and immediately prepared to set out.

”Although I have reported the situation to His Majesty, you still need to be careful. The current Council of Elders has many progressive members who dislike borderland nobility,” Raymond cautioned.

Although the house of Arcknight was no borderland nobility, it was a fact that they lived here in the frontier territory of the kingdom instead of the capital. In fact, many of the policies they adopted helped out the new and borderland nobles.

Many who became Barons in the past few decades by providing great service to the kingdom, had the aid of the house Arcknight.
