The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 88: Chapter 88- Sieging the City

”Haha, your father is right. I guess you can say I just have the knack for this sort of thing. When the territory was in the hands of my father, it was in an absolute mess. The tax was low and there was barely any money in the treasury we could use for leisure or our personal enjoyment”...

”However, now look at it. The city I rule is flourishing, the market booming, and rich people are continuously moving in. Once I took the lordship from my father, I completely changed it... Hahaha” Baron Chetak bragged.

The city he was so proud of, the city that he built, could be said to have advanced. However, whether it improved for the better or not, can easily be seen once one steps out of the central district of the city where the rich and high class lived.

Outside the central district, it was all a slum. Dirty drains, unhygienic living conditions, garbage dumps everywhere, and people living off that garbage. Under the excessive tax, favouritism, corruption, power abuse, land seizure and authoritarian control, only a small part of the populace was flourishing.

Indeed, it was a land for the rich since the poor could not survive here. That said, for Baron Chetak and the people here, the weak and the poor matter not, for that was how their mentality was.

”Hmph, if not for that woman who thinks she is the Queen just because the king favours her, my city would have been even more flourishing. Anyways, today is a special day, let’s not sour our moods. Eat and drink to your heart’s content, I took the liberty of using the wine I brought here from the Kingdom of Lunaris”.

”Indeed, the wine is great, but isn’t it about time you told us about the great news you have for us?”

On the insistence of his guests, Baron Cheetak finally revealed the big news.

CLAP... CLAP...

”Bring her here,” he clapped twic,e and two guards entered with a girl bound in chains and collar.

”This is... a demi human girl!!”

”Lord Chetak where did you find her?”

The guests inside the hall all stood up from their seats and looked at the demi human girl with shock and naked lust in their eyes. Not only was a demi human rarely seen, but their bodies were also said to be top class.

”Hehe, don’t be so impatient. It’s not like she is the only one I have. There are plenty for each of you... of course, if the price is right. I have already got some buyers across the kingdom who are interested, when I sent the news to them. If you can match their price, I am willing to sell some to you”.

”How much is the price? If I ask my father, I think I’ll be able to buy them”.

”My Orario trading company has branches in many cities. Even if I need to sell a few, I will buy those demi humans”.

”Lord Chetak, please state the price.”

A sort of fierce bidding competition started among the guests.

”Haha, dear guests, please calm down. I haven’t decided on the pricing yet. You see, the commodities although they look extremely beautiful and irresistible, there is in fact a need to educate them”.

GRRRR... CLANG... the demi human girl bound by the chains growled and struggled to break out of her shackles. However, probably because she was heavily sedated by some drug, she was having difficulty mustering her power.

As a result, she could only growl and flash her teeth at the evil humans.

”These people are too savage and need to be properly trained before they can be sold off.”

Seeing her completely feral and uncontrollable behaviour, the guests nodded their heads.

”Then does it mean that once they are trained, they will be up for sale in the underground slave market?”

Baron Chetak laughed, he was just about to say his piece when a subordinate suddenly barged in.

”Insolence!! You dare enter my personal quarters without entering. I will have your head lopped off”. The action of the subordinate caused him to fly into a rage.

”My lord, please forgive me. However, this is an emergency”.

His mood soiled, Chetak pushed the maids away and stood up.

”Tell me what is the emergency? If it’s not something important, I will have you and your entire family killed off”.

The subordinate, pale faced, reported ”It’s the Order of the Temple of Light, they are attacking us”.

BOOM...

As soon as he words fell, a loud noise of an explosion rang out from the distance. Baron Chetak, as well as the guests he was entertaining, all stood up from their seats and looked out the balcony.

There they could see smoke coming off from the distance and a part of the rampart fortressing the city, crumbling down.

”What’s going on? Who is attacking our city?”

”Did that guy just say Order of the Temple of Light? Isn’t that one of the Seven Great Knight Orders? Why are they attacking our city?”

While his guests were frowning in confusion and surprise, Baron Chetak himself narrowed his eyes. A look that said he knew the reason for their attack.

”Tsk... to think that they would attack their own people for these filthy demi humans. Looks like the rumors were right. The Order of the Temple of Light has fallen” He clicked his tongue and questioned the subordinate who barged in to report.

”Give me the full picture. How many knights from the Temple of Light are attacking us?”

The subordinate bowed his head, his expression becoming paler by the second.

”Reporting to lord Chetak. The enemy numbers over twenty. They are currently trying to force their way in through the north gate”.

”What? Just over twenty? You people are making such a commotion over that? Could it be that the enemy are all famous knights? What are their levels?”

This time, the subordinate took a visible pause before reporting.

”A-About that... we have identified the enemy. They appear to be squires from the Temple of Light”.

”Huh?!”

Getting an answer that he never expected, Chetak stood there with a stunned face.
