King of the Wilderness

Chapter 523: Chapter 281: An Invitation from the Air Force! (Part 2)

He didn’t play by the rules, directly throwing Lin Yu’an an almost impossible task.

”Assume it’s winter now, and you need to pilot a Piper Super Cub from Anchorage, flying to a remote research station on the North Slope, with no refueling airports along the way.”

”Please tell me your complete flight plan, including aircraft modifications, fuel calculations, route planning, and risk assessment.”

This is a typical trap question, because a conventional Super Cub simply cannot complete this task. Any student following the standard procedures would get stuck here.

Lin Yu’an calmly thought for a minute, then began his response.

He started with the application for temporary ferry permits for the aircraft, explaining in detail how to legally install an auxiliary fuel tank inside the cabin, keeping the aircraft’s takeoff weight within permissible limits.

Then, he brought up the aeronautical charts, planning a route along the valleys, utilizing the mountain wind effect to maximize fuel savings.

Finally, he even listed a detailed emergency survival equipment checklist to handle potential forced landings in the wild, with a level of detail exceeding official Air Force standards.

He spoke for a full half hour, his logic tight and data precise, with every aspect impeccable.

When he finished, the perpetually icy expression on Daniel Hansen’s face showed the first hint of emotion.

He paused for a long time, slowly nodding his head, saying just one sentence, ”Get on the plane.”

The practical flight exam turned into a personal demonstration by Lin Yu’an.

Whether it was a 45-degree steep turn or slow flight on the edge of stalling, each of his movements was as standard as if crafted by C4D software.

Daniel remained silent throughout, only marking the symbols for ”excellent” on his scoring sheet over and over.

During the critical simulation of an engine failure in the air, Daniel finally revealed his nature as a novice-slayer.

Just as the plane flew over a rugged ridge, with dense needle forests and rock-strewn beaches below, he suddenly pulled the throttle to idle at the most challenging altitude and position.

”Lin, your engine just exploded.” His voice was icy and ruthless.

Almost the instant his words fell, Lin Yu’an’s body made an instinctive reaction.

”Maintain attitude, control speed!” This was his first response, without a trace of panic, adjusting the attitude in less than a second.

He gently pushed the nose down, precisely maintaining the plane’s speed at the best glide speed of this Cessna 175 - 75 knots.

His eyes, sharp like an eagle’s, quickly scanned the ground, finding a feasible narrow upwind valley suitable for an emergency landing in the seemingly hopeless terrain below within seconds.

Meanwhile, his mouth maintained an emotionless pace, reciting the engine restart checklist procedure.

”Fuel selector valve, open.”

”Mixture, rich.”

”Fuel pump, on.”

”...”

As the plane approached the emergency landing site in a perfect gliding profile, about to touch down, Daniel Hansen finally spoke.

His voice carried a trace of awe even he hadn’t noticed himself, ”Alright, Lin, bring the plane back.”

After the plane landed smoothly at Anchorage Airport and taxied back to the hangar, Daniel Hansen signed the temporary pilot’s license solemnly in the office.

He didn’t hand it to Lin Yu’an immediately, but looked at him and spoke words he had never said to any student in his career.

He looked at Lin Yu’an, eyes extremely complex, ”Lin, remember. The license is merely a permit to begin learning.”

”But today, what I saw was not a student, but someone who seemed like a veteran who has been flying forever. There’s a soul in your flying, something no aviation school could teach.”

”The sky welcomes you home.”

He handed the license to Lin Yu’an. When Lin Yu’an took it, he didn’t let go.

The retired colonel’s eyes suddenly burned with an intense flame!

”Young man, eight days ago, John Miller from Fairbanks called me and said he’d discovered a monster.”

Daniel’s tone became exceptionally solemn, ”Today, I witnessed the monster firsthand. So, I must ask you once more in my personal capacity.”

He took out a sophisticated business card from the drawer, identical to John Miller’s, bearing the United States Air Force Reserve Command emblem.

”Are you interested in enlisting?”

He looked at Lin Yu’an, his eyes filled with an unyielding desire for top talent at any cost, his voice low and irresistibly enticing.

”Whatever John can offer you, I can match. I can even do more. Listen, kid, this isn’t an ordinary job offer; it’s a shortcut to the pinnacle of Empire power!”

”I know you’re still a Chinese citizen. That’s not a problem. As long as you nod, I’ll personally initiate the expedited citizenship path for outstanding talent.”

”In as quickly as six months, you’ll obtain United States citizenship and the highest security level background certification. I can also directly submit your dossier to the Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base.”

”You’ll skip all cumbersome selection and basic training processes, entering directly into the top tactical flight squadron, receiving guidance from the best pilots in the world.”
