King of the Wilderness

Chapter 99: Chapter 97: Heading to Alaska

On the seventh day before leaving the hospital.

Ethan and Olivia, the newborn twins, truly displayed an astounding cuteness alongside their individual little differences.

Little Ethan seemed to be a naturally serene young gentleman, only using loud and powerful cries to express his displeasure when hungry or wet.

Most of the time, he lay obediently in the crib, with his beautiful light green eyes wide open, curiously and intently observing this fascinating world around him.

His chubby little hands occasionally waved aimlessly, as though exploring the texture of the air.

When Lin Yu’an gently enveloped his tiny fist with his warm hand, the little guy would let out a satisfied sigh, his cuteness capable of melting hearts.

And their daughter, Olivia, Baby An’an, was more like a lively, spirited little elf.

Her eyelashes were long and curled, like two delicate little fans. In her similarly enchanting light green eyes, there was always a glint of mischievous sparkle!

She seemed to prefer being held, enjoying the warmth of skin-to-skin contact with her parents. Whenever Lin Yu’an or Aliya took her into their arms, she would make contented, kitten-like purring sounds.

Her soft little head would nestle into their warm necks, her cute and endearing appearance capable of thoroughly melting hearts.

Lin Yu’an was completely captivated by the adorable allure of these twin treasures. ℯℯ𝑙.

Amidst his joy as a new father, a detailed bill for medical expenses arrived punctually in his hands.

As expected, the delivery costs at the top private hospital in Billings were certainly substantial.

This included Aliya’s three-day use of the LDRP room, pain-free delivery anesthetist fees, newborn care and various tests for both babies, and service fees for the obstetrician and midwife team.

Also included were various medicines and medical supplies used during the hospital stay, totaling an initial amount of thirty-eight thousand two hundred and fifty US Dollars.

”Wow, having a baby in the United States really is quite an expensive affair.”

Lin Yu’an looked at those numbers, inadvertently clicking his tongue. For ordinary American families, this would definitely be a heavy burden.

Luckily, the experienced Martha was there. With her deep understanding of the American health insurance system, she helped them carefully verify each detailed charge.

She organized all necessary medical documents and submitted a claim application through the hospital’s financial department and the insurance company’s online portal.

The American billing system indeed lives up to its legendary complexity and meticulousness, often consisting of separate bills issued by different departments providing services.

They meticulously compared each bill with the EOB (Explanation of Benefits) document sent by the insurance company, ensuring there were no errors or duplicate charges.

According to the EOB, Aliya’s student insurance plan had a five thousand US Dollar annual deductible and a twelve thousand US Dollar annual out-of-pocket maximum.

After meeting the deductible, the insurance company covered 80% of the expenses, leaving them to bear the remaining 20%.

With Martha’s assistance, Lin Yu’an and Aliya quickly calculated the final amount they needed to pay:

deductible plus 20% of the remaining 33250, which was 6650.

The total out-of-pocket expense combined amounted to 11650.

”Eleven thousand six hundred and fifty US Dollars...” For him now, this amount was practically insignificant.

With all procedures completed, it was time to go home!

Lin Yu’an and Martha carefully placed the two babies into brand-new infant car seats that met the highest safety standards.

This was perhaps one of the most nerve-wracking moments for all new parents; they repeatedly checked the tightness of the seat belts, fearing even the slightest oversight might harm these fragile little lives.

He drove the reliable Ford pickup smoother than ever, barely exceeding forty miles per hour.

After more than two hours of ”slow” driving, as that familiar, western-style wooden mansion came into view once again.

Lin Yu’an saw the entire McKinley family already waiting under the porch.

Unlike the bustle of their last homecoming, this time everyone appeared exceptionally calm, their faces bearing expressions both excited and restrained.

Even the usually most mischievous children were kept in check by the adults, tiptoeing with curiosity.

As the car came to a stop, Robert was the first to stride forward, his towering bear-like figure becoming as gentle as a feather when approaching the pickup’s door.

Lin Yu’an opened the back door and carefully unfastened the two carriers.

When he presented the blanket-wrapped Ethan and Olivia to the family for the first time, everyone subconsciously held their breath.

”Oh... my God...”

Someone couldn’t help but let out a low, reverent gasp.

Dozens of eyes instantly focused on these two tiny lives.

Robert stepped closer. On his weathered face, even his thick beard seemed to tremble slightly.

He extended his calloused hand but only dared to use his fingertips, gently and tentatively touching the cheeks of grandson Ethan.

”They... they have Aliya’s eyes...”

Robert’s voice was somewhat emotional as he saw the twins’ freshly opened light green eyes, a hallmark of the daughter he cherished the most!

Aliya’s four mothers and the wives of her brothers instantly transformed into the most professional childcare team.

”Oh, little sweetheart, look at this little nose!”

”Olivia’s eyelashes are so long, like a little doll!”

”Quick, it’s windy outside, quickly bring them in, the fireplace is nice and warm.”

They hurried yet orderly took the children from Lin Yu’an and Aliya’s arms, crowding around them as they walked into the warm main house.

”Congratulations, Lin!” Brother-in-law Wyatt gave him a hearty pat on the shoulder.

Brother-in-law Garrett laughed and said, ”Brother, from today on, you’re truly a man.”

In the living room, the large fireplace flames leaped, casting a warmth like spring throughout the space.

Two cradles, which had been prepared in advance with thick wool cushions, were placed in the warmest spot next to the fireplace.

Ethan and Olivia were carefully placed into the cradles, with a dozen people surrounding them, whispering loving praises in the softest tones!

Lin Yu’an stood on the outskirts of the group, watching Aliya share her childbirth experiences with the mothers and sisters-in-law encircling her, then glanced at those two little ones at the center of the universe in the cradles.

An unprecedented sense of belonging and satisfaction slowly flowed in his heart.

He was no longer just the champion of ”Alone in the Wilderness” or Aliya’s husband.

From today on, he was the father of Lin Musen and Lin An’an.

In this vast world, he had acquired a truly meaningful, complete, and warm home.

Time flew to March.

In Montana, the snow began to show signs of melting under the midday sun, with the air filled with a mix of earth and pine, heralding the coming of spring.

Ethan and Olivia were almost one month old. Under the family’s meticulous care, the two little ones grew to be delicate and lively, with those light green eyes inherited from their mother becoming ever clearer and more vivid.

Lin Yu’an and Aliya’s lives were filled with the mundane yet incredibly joyful routines of feeding, changing diapers, and cooing conversations with the babies.

On such a peaceful afternoon, a phone call from Los Angeles shattered the tranquility, signaling the impending start of their next Chapter in life.

The call came from Richard’s assistant Susan, whose voice was efficient and polite.

”Herman, I have good news for you. Regarding your participation in the ’Life Below Zero’ project, all legal documents and contract terms have been mostly discussed with the relevant departments by our legal team. You can sign the contract at any time now.”

”After signing, as agreed, a prepayment of five hundred thousand US dollars will be transferred into Miss Aliya’s designated bank account within three business days.”

Holding Olivia who was burping, Lin Yu’an gently patted her back as he walked to the window, his voice steady.

”Great, Susan, thank you for the notification.”

Susan continued, ”Mr. Richard asked me to pass on that we have already contacted a local real estate agent and guide for you in Alaska.”

”Considering Miss Aliya and the babies are not up for long-distance travel at the moment, he suggests you go ahead as the family representative to Alaska to complete the land selection and transfer procedures.”

”This journey can also help you get a feel of Wiseman’s environment, and we’ll book your flight from Montana to Fairbanks, Alaska. The show’s team will send a small scouting team to meet you in Fairbanks.”

”And provide subsequent transportation; this part may be filmed for the show to capture some of the precious initial moments of you setting foot on that land.”

After hanging up, Lin Yu’an’s gaze turned to the vast snowy plains outside, a strong surge of emotion rising in his heart.

He shared this news with Aliya and the McKinley family.

The family offered various suggestions, some advising him to take many photos and videos, others urging him to try the Alaskan king crab.

This large family, at this moment, became Lin Yu’an’s most reliable support!

A few days later, the electronic version of the contract arrived in Lin Yu’an’s email.

He and Aliya, under the remote witnessing of their lawyer, solemnly signed their names on the electronic contract.

Just two days later, Aliya’s phone received a bank notification message.

A long string of numbers appeared on the screen—a complete five hundred thousand US dollars, deposited into her account without missing a cent.

The departure date was set for a few days later, with Brother-in-law driving him to the airport.

After several hours of flight, the plane landed in Alaska’s second-largest city—Fairbanks.

When Lin Yu’an stepped out of the plane and onto the jet bridge, a coldness even more primitive than Montana’s greeted him.

The airport wasn’t large but it was full of frontier charm, with huge grizzly bear specimens and oil paintings depicting the aurora adorning the walls.

At the luggage claim, Lin Yu’an immediately spotted the person waiting for him.

It was a solidly built man, not tall, wearing a thick down jacket, with a hearty smile on his face.

Holding a sign that read ”Herman Lin.”
