Chapter 75: Chapter 74: Alone in the Wilderness – The First Bear Hunter

”Hmm?”

Lin Yu’an paused, looked up at the sky, and frowned slightly.

”Is that the show’s helicopter? They sure know how to pick their timing.”

Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers away at the production center in Los Angeles, the chief director Mark was staring at the footage of Lin Yu’an’s survival segments with an unrelenting gaze.

On the table beside him lay a newly drafted plan.

The core of the plan was to ”persuade” Lin Yu’an to withdraw.

Behind this decision was a well-considered commercial strategy by the show.

At the moment, Lin Yu’an and Klay’s abilities are almost on par, and their rivalry is a guarantee of high ratings.

Even Mark had to admit Lin Yu’an’s luck was incredible! He provided a lot of exciting material and secured enough food!

Even Mark himself wondered if someone on the staff had secretly given Lin Yu’an information.

But the critical point now was that Lin Yu’an had hunted large prey after more than forty days, by which time Klay’s venison was already half gone.

This means that if the competition drags into the final consumption phase, the balance scale would tilt heavily toward Lin Yu’an, and the suspense of the competition would end prematurely.

A script where a contestant from China crushes the local hero with an absolute advantage could attract the Chinese market.

But it might upset the core North American audience! So an outcome full of ’unexpected’ twists is far more commercially valuable than a one-sided victory.

Thus, they planned this action, with the medical team approaching Lin Yu’an under the pretext of a reasonable ”health check.”

Michelle King would present a contract with an additional fifty thousand US Dollars ”honorary withdrawal bonus.”

Mark thought this number was nothing compared to the program’s reputation! This was the best solution to quell the ”script controversy” and preserve the show’s suspense.

”Michelle, remember, the attitude needs to be sincere, make him feel our sincerity.”

Mark made his final instructions over the satellite phone.

And at the Chilco Lakefront, the helicopter had already landed slowly.

The cabin door opened, and Michelle, security chief David, and accompanying doctor Anderson stepped off the helicopter.

Michelle wore a formal concerned smile, internally calculating how to phrase the fifty thousand US Dollars proposition as a reward rather than a buyout.

However, as the three of them walked towards Lin Yu’an’s shelter and saw the bloodstains on the ground, they were shocked!

David immediately pulled out the large-caliber handgun he carried and quickly followed the direction of the blood!

When the three of them reached the place where the bloodstains disappeared and finally saw the scene before them, they stopped in their tracks as if frozen into ice sculptures!

The expressions they had prepared on their faces completely froze, replaced by undeniable shock!

What did they see?

This young contestant from China was half-kneeling beside the carcass of a massive black bear!

His hands and forearms were covered in blood as he methodically handled the bear’s entrails.

The snow at his feet was stained red with blood, resembling a brutal battlefield!

The whole scene was filled with the most primal, the wildest, and the most impactful shock!

”Oh... My... God...”

Michelle King instinctively covered her mouth, her beautiful eyes filled with extreme shock and chaos.

The entire set of phrases about ”psychological stress,” ”nutritional imbalance,” and that fifty thousand US Dollars she had prepared in her mind seemed so pale in the face of this scene.

Security chief David’s professional instincts made him step forward immediately: ”Lin! Are you okay? Are you injured? What... what happened here?”

Lin Yu’an stood up from beside the bear’s carcass, wiped his hands with clean snow, then calmly greeted them and said.

”I’m fine, David, not even a scratch, as for this big guy, it tried to steal my food, so I had a battle with it.”

”A battle?”

Dr. Anderson, who should have come to ”diagnose” Lin Yu’an’s ”weakness,” now squatted like an ordinary person to inspect the bear’s carcass.

He quickly found two deep wounds on the bear’s shoulder, side abdomen, and the fatal inside of the upper thigh, caused by broadhead arrows, along with several other injuries caused by normal arrows.

Dr. Anderson spoke gravely, ”These wounds were caused by arrows! The last one severed the femoral artery, leading to fatal bleeding. He... he did it with a bow and arrow!”

Hearing this, Michelle King and David again looked at Lin Yu’an in disbelief.

Using a bow and arrow, alone, he killed an adult black bear?

Michelle King quickly walked up to Lin Yu’an, with all previous plans gone, replaced by a genuine sense of joy.

”Lin! You... you really did it?”

Lin Yu’an calmly nodded: ”Yes, it was quite aggressive, I had to defend myself.”

Michelle excitedly said, ”You’ve made history! Lin! You’ve absolutely made history on ’Alone in the Wilderness’!”

”Until now, no contestant has ever managed to face and defeat such a large black bear on their own!”

She looked at Lin Yu’an, her eyes filled with fiery admiration.

”Lin, your performance is incredible, I must call Mark!”

She immediately grabbed the satellite phone and walked to a distance to report the situation to the chief director back at the show.

”Mark! Mark! Can you hear me? The plan... the plan has to be completely canceled! You won’t believe what I saw!”

Far away at the production center, Mark frowned: ”Michelle, calm down, what’s going on? Is something wrong with Lin?”

”No! No! Mark!” Michelle was trying to suppress her excitement in a low voice.

”It’s not that something’s wrong with him! It’s that he... he killed a bear! An adult black bear!”

”With a bow and arrow! He’s unharmed! Mark, I’ll say it again, he killed a bear with a bow and arrow!”

The other end of the satellite phone fell into deathly silence.

Mark was stunned, holding the phone, frozen in his chair, mouth slightly open, his mind blank.

A few moments later, he suddenly stood up: ”Script? To hell with the script! This is crazier than any script!”

His previous frustration and torment by public opinion were now replaced by unprecedented joy.

”Michelle! Confirm if Lin shot all the footage, all of it! This is footage more precious than diamonds!”

Michelle took a deep breath, calming herself, then turned back to Lin Yu’an.

By now, her face showed no trace of a professional smile, only pure admiration.

She walked over to Lin Yu’an, her eyes glancing over to his chest, where the action camera was still working.

”Lin, I need to confirm, just now... did your camera capture everything from when you discovered it, to the confrontation, and the whole fight?”
