King of the Wilderness

Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Final Four Showdown

In the fifth episode, the timeline has reached the thirty-fifth to the forty-seventh day of the contestants’ lonely survival in the wilderness.

All the remaining contestants have gone through the initial adaptation and building of shelters, surviving with their own advantages.

Now, stable food acquisition and storage have become the most severe core challenge standing before all the contestants!

Only four contestants are left!

In the footage, the experienced Clay Jenkins still shows his incomparable stability.

Although the black-tailed deer meat he hunted more than twenty days ago has been more than half consumed.

But with his excellent fishing skills, he occasionally catches a few sizable pikes, adding fresh protein to his diet.

In the camera, he calmly processes his catch inside the warm and sturdy log cabin or methodically takes care of his hunting gear.

That composed demeanor, as if everything is under control, has long predetermined him as the champion by countless North American viewers.

Among the other contestants still struggling to persist.

Veteran Ron unexpectedly found a patch of thriving wild onions, temporarily alleviating his food scarcity problems.

The Inuit female hunter Kira has practically transformed into the ”Gold Medal Mouse Catcher”! According to statistics, she averages two mouse catches a day.

Although each haul is extremely limited, it barely sustains her survival line.

But not everyone can withstand the relentless grind of time and the continual erosion of hunger.

On the 39th day of the show, the lumberjack Bill, who has always seemed to struggle, mainly relying on collecting small amounts of plants, fruits, and roots to survive.

Admitted on camera that he had been without protein supplementation for days, reaching the brink of collapse both physically and mentally.

Ultimately, like a tough guy, he confessed, he just couldn’t bear the hunger anymore. It’s not homesickness; his mental state is fine; he simply lost to hunger.

He reluctantly pressed the yellow distress button, becoming another contestant to leave the stage in dismay.

Just as the viewers bemoaned Bill’s departure and increasingly felt Clay’s champion position was as solid as a rock.

The editing team suddenly turned the lens on Lin Yu’an, deliberately creating a tense atmosphere through a series of shots.

In the picture, Lin Yu’an sits tiredly at the doorway of the stone shelter, his shadow elongated by the setting sun.

Speaking to the camera, his voice is much deeper than usual: ”Guys, my luck seems to have run out in recent days. The traps I set had no decent catches.”

”The fish in the stream are getting harder to catch, and while there’s still food in reserve, it’s also depleting quickly.”

”If... if I can’t find a new food source, I might... really have to face some very tough choices.”

Then the camera quickly switched to several shots of him looking slightly crestfallen, walking away from an empty trap.

And later at night by the stove, recounting his past on camera.

This sequence of suggestive foreshadowing instantly put all the viewers concerned about Lin Yu’an on edge.

Especially the fans watching on Bilibili from far away in China, where the bullet comments almost drowned the screen:

[No way?! Brother An can’t hold on?]

[Please don’t! Bro! You’re our hope! Hang in there!]

[Brother An’s background... traffickers deserve no mercy! Support equal punishment for buyers and sellers!]

[Do you think this could be the calm before Brother An’s breakout? In the next moment, he might take down a bear!]

[Oh no, no, could it be that our proud ”infrastructure approach” is really going to lose to the pure hunting macho?]

The North American viewers who had previously not favored Lin Yu’an, thinking he focused too much on the comfort of his shelter, neglecting the core survival element of ’food’.

Are now posting their foresight on major forums and social media.

”Bro, I told you, this approach won’t work in real long-term survival; food is the hard truth!”

”His luck ran out, and without those ’initial surprises,’ he’s about to head home crying for mommy! Hahaha!”

”What a pity, I thought he might bring us some different surprises. It seems he’s still too young.”

However, just when everyone thought Lin Yu’an was about to face an unprecedented dilemma, possibly becoming the next to exit.

The show’s narrative rhythm suddenly felt like a roller coaster, ushering in a staggering, jaw-dropping plot twist!

The screen changed, Lin Yu’an noticed deer tracks during an exploration!

Immediately, he was seen adventurously paddling a canoe to an island, using subtle tracking skills.

Successfully tracking down a massive male mule deer, and hitting the target using his 50-pound American Hunting Bow!

Subsequent footage even more fired up the audience ——!

Lin Yu’an followed the trail of blood and tracks left by the deer, finally finding the gigantic prey in a dense forest!

When Lin Yu’an used a unique Chinese shoulder pole to transport the hefty processed venison back to ”Pioneer”.

And luckily discovering a large wild onion patch on the way back!

The entire ”Alone in the Wilderness” audience group, whether in North America or China, those supporting him finally dared to speak up loudly!!!

Bilibili’s bullet comments and comment section instantly shifted from previous worries and anxiety.

To overwhelming astonishment, celebration, and the pleasure of ”face-slapping the haters”!

[Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Countless exclamation marks flooding the screen)]

[Kill! Kill! Kill! Brother An is awesome, breaking the sound barrier!!!!!!!]

[Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Who just said Brother An wasn’t good? Come here and let me slap you twice!]

[Translate, translate, what the heck is called a surprise! Haters, translate, what the heck is called a freaking surprise!]

[Oh dear, a surprise is me giving you a million bucks to join Alone in the Wilderness and attach legs to my ratings! Understand?]

[Sir, translate. Translate!]

[A surprise is after thirty days, giving you a million dollars, hunting a deer, picking some green onions, eating hot pot and singing songs, winning the championship, and attaching legs to his ratings!]

[Big brother, so this is surprise! Little brother is willing to wait for you thirty days!]

[Hahahaha! I’m dying of laughter! One moment I was worrying about Brother An’s food supply, the next moment it’s a full banquet!]

[This luck is too timely! This must be the production team giving an official cheat!]

[And that shoulder pole! The wisdom passed down by our ancestors! Shining brightly in the wilderness of a foreign land! Really face-gaining!]

[Get it straight, the shoulder pole has always been a South Korean intangible cultural heritage!]

[I’m a ten-year fan, here uninvited! I announce Lin Yu’an as the sole champion this season! Not a phantom champion! No acceptance of any rebuttal!]

[Didn’t you all see it? Even here, some people are stealing?]

[What about those who were sarcastic before? Collectively silent? Or got slapped in the face! Off to a corner to lick rice for nutrition?]

North American viewers were also shocked by Lin Yu’an’s amazing performance, with social media and forum opinions turning around instantly.

(Oh my God! I can hardly believe what I’m seeing! It’s unbelievable!)

(Fu*k! He really hunted a deer! And then used that... that ’Chinese shoulder pole’ to carry at least 130 pounds of loot in one go?)

(I must admit, this guy is a lucky beast! He also found wild onions? Unbelievably lucky!)

(Alright, Klay now has a very, very strong challenger! This season just got more exciting!)

Of course, the show didn’t let the suspense end there.

At the end of episode four, the camera returned to a still composed Clay Jenkins.

The large fishing nets he meticulously set up by the lake also started yielding consistently and steadily.

In just a week, he caught as many as twelve large pike from the icy Chilco Lake!

One by one, the shimmering silver fish, over half a meter long, were pulled from the nets and piled beside his sturdy wooden shelter, creating an equally impressive scene.

Clay faced the camera and calmly said, ”A stable food source is the key to long-term survival. This lake is generous. Thank you, nature.”

The broadcast of episode four undoubtedly pushed the ratings and global discussion of Wilderness Solo Living: Grizzly Mountain to an unprecedented peak.

Lin Yu’an, with his stunning hunt and unexpectedly bountiful find, drastically changed many viewers’ preconceived notions about him.

He also severely ”slapped the faces” of those who previously questioned his ’shelter-first’ survival philosophy.

Meanwhile, Clay, with his continuous and efficient food acquisition skills, once again demonstrated his terrifying strength as the favorite to win the championship.

This left all the viewers with endless anticipation and imagination for the upcoming episodes.

As winter approaches, a battle of kings is unfolding in the final round of competition!

(The number of recent followers keeps increasing, and in this Chapter, I’ll answer some of the core controversial questions about this book.)

(This book is called American Hunting: Starting from Living Alone in the Wilderness, scheduled for release on July 1st, to avoid any post-release expectations not being met.)

Q: There are polarized views on the Golden Finger; some think no cheating should be allowed, others think you’d be stupid not to cheat.

A: The Golden Finger will run throughout the book and not just serve one particular volume, so in the wilderness section, the Golden Finger is in a semi-open state, which matches my expectations.

Q: The protagonist’s character is not strong, not likable.

A: The protagonist’s final character in my mind is humble, brave, honest, kind, decisive in killing, and gets stronger when encountering stronger opponents.

Q: The protagonist babbling without audience feedback is not as good as live broadcasting.

A: Here, I’ll clarify that live broadcasting won’t be the main structure of the book; it will only be depicted appropriately.

Q: How do you plan to write in the future?

A: After the wilderness section, it will continue to revolve around hunting, and the protagonist will also participate in other wilderness variety shows, interspersed with American daily life such as American muscle cars, extreme sports, etc.

Q: What does single female lead and multiple female supporting mean?

A: Literally, pure love enthusiasts beware!! There is only one main female lead, but there will also be female supporting characters. Think of it as a harem novel. The protagonist in his past life couldn’t mentally overcome losing the female lead, but he had other girlfriends, yet the female lead is the most important one. To emphasize, the protagonist is not a pure love warrior!

Q: What are the highlights of this book?

A: You can look at the introduction, which accounts for most of the highlights of this book. The rest depends on the writing style.

Q: With this Golden Finger, why not go smuggling and make big money?

A: To clarify here, the book will use the Golden Finger to smuggle some things but will absolutely not touch any drugs or similar things. Isn’t being a big streamer more profitable than smuggling? And less risky. Do you really think you can come away unscathed after touching some cake? The protagonist of this book just wants a peaceful life; it’s an American daily life novel, not a thrilling, on-the-run action novel.
