King of the Wilderness

Chapter 96: Chapter 94: Hunting the Alpha Wolf

Brother-in-law Bo said at this moment, ”Herman, your analysis is excellent, so why don’t you formulate our hunting strategy this time.”

The other brothers-in-law did not oppose, which signified their tacit agreement.

Lin Yu’an said, ”Alright, from the current situation, going directly to their lair is illegal and foolish.”

”We can use their attack route as the breakthrough point. Tonight, they are most likely to infiltrate from the valley pass on the northwest side of the ranch.”

”We’ll set up defenses there, guide a few calves into a relatively open area to create the best view for the drones and our shooting.”

Around four in the afternoon, everyone moved into their ambush positions.

Lin Yu’an and Garrett formed a sniper team, occupying a rocky high ground overlooking the entire northwest valley.

Bo and Kley were positioned about a hundred meters from the cattle behind a tractor and several large round haystacks, providing close-range fire support.

Their position was right under the crossfire coverage of the sniper team.

Wyatt was in the second floor of the farmhouse, conducting overall command and recording evidence through a high-powered telescope, several ground cameras, and drones.

Time passed by second by second in silence.

The sun gradually set, dyeing the sky a splendid orange-red.

This was dusk, the time when day and night exchange places, also the most dangerous hunting hour in the wilderness, as most carnivores hunt at this time!

The cold began to intensify, the wind became more piercing, but the Archaeopteryx clothing worked excellently, completely blocking out the cold wind.

While hunting, Lin Yu’an did not forget his other task—testing Archaeopteryx’s products.

Nearly at five-thirty, Wyatt’s suppressive growl came over the walkie-talkie.

”They’re here! The eastern entrance of the valley, five of them! They’re moving using the ridge’s shadow! Stay alert!”

Lin Yu’an locked onto the area through the high-powered scope.

Under the gentle but clear twilight, the silhouettes of the wolves lined up like netherworld ghosts, cleverly concealing themselves with the terrain’s undulations, each step cautious.

At the back was the giant Alpha male wolf, its black fur reflecting the sunset, making it look even more majestic.

However, what happened next caught everyone off guard.

”Something’s wrong!”

In a very low voice, Lin Yu’an said on the team channel, ”They’ve stopped, three hundred meters from the herd.”

Through the scope, the Alpha male wolf was seen stopping behind a bush, only exposing half its head to observe, appearing extremely cautious.

Soon, it made a deep howl.

Two younger male wolves of slightly smaller size instantly broke from the pack, taking a large arc route, cautiously moving to flank the cattle.

”They’re testing us!” Wyatt’s voice was a bit impatient.

”These two are decoys; they want to gauge our reaction!”

The two wolves began to harass the herd, sometimes sprinting forward, other times retreating, trying to disrupt the herd and separate the young or weak ones.

The herd became restive, the livestock guard dogs gave fierce warnings, but the wolves did not make a lethal attack.

”Can we open fire? They’re chasing!”

Kley’s anxious voice came over the walkie-talkie.

”No!” Wyatt’s voice came through everyone’s walkie-talkie.

”We haven’t captured footage of them in the process of causing substantial harm! We must wait! Wait until they bare their fangs!”

The twilight glow was fading rapidly, making the time unbearably agonizing.

Suddenly, the situation changed dramatically!

”West side! Three o’clock! Behind the haystack!”

Wyatt’s voice suddenly exploded through the walkie-talkie, filled with shock and urgency.

”There aren’t just five wolves! There are two other wolves! Damn, it’s a diversion!”

While everyone’s attention was drawn to the two decoy wolves, two other undiscovered wolves stealthily moved to a point less than eighty meters from Bo and Kley’s ambush!

Their target was the other flank of the herd!

This was the real deadly move!

The female wolf let out a sharp howl, as if sounding the horn for the final assault! Three wolves rushed toward the herd like arrows shot from a bow!

At the same time, the distant Alpha male wolf also led the remaining two wolves, charging from the front!

The entire wolf pack, under the cover of twilight, launched a full attack on the herd from three directions!

”They’re attacking! Open fire! Everyone is free to open fire now!”

”This is legal! Hit them hard!”

Wyatt’s voice, hoarse with adrenaline, was filled with killing intent!

The shackles of the law were completely unleashed at this moment!

”Boom——!”

Kley’s pump-action shotgun was the first to fire! Numerous lead pellets instantly knocked the foremost wolf to the ground!

”Rat-a-tat-tat-tat——!”

Bo’s AR-10 began to roar as well, the dense rain of bullets drawing a clear line of dust on the snow, successfully separating the she-wolf and another wolf from the cattle herd, buying precious seconds for the calves!

On the highland, Lin Yu’an’s crosshairs were exceptionally steady.

He didn’t bother with the minor wolves but instead remained locked onto the giant Alpha Male Wolf charging head-on.

This was the leader of the pack; if it fell, the battle would collapse instantly!

But the male wolf was extremely cunning, using the running cattle as cover, its body appearing and disappearing within the herd, never giving Lin Yu’an a stable shooting window!

”I can’t lock onto it! It’s using the cattle as cover!” Garrett also shouted anxiously.

At this moment, the she-wolf suppressed by firepower suddenly changed direction, accelerating to knock down a panicked calf, opening its gaping mouth to bite at the calf’s neck!

”Fu*k! Damn it!” Wyatt let out a heart-wrenching roar.

At that instant, an idea rose in Lin Yu’an’s mind, and he decided to change the tactics immediately!

He abandoned the original plan to shoot the Alpha Male Wolf, his gun barrel swung sharply, and the crosshair instantly locked onto the she-wolf’s exposed side ribs!

The entire process was as fast as lightning!

He slowly exhaled half a breath, held his breath, and the world seemed to come to a standstill.

”Bang——!”

A booming sound, louder than all the previous gunfire, echoed through the valley like a thunderclap!

The .300 WMG whizzed out at over 900 meters per second!

In the crosshairs, the she-wolf about to savor the fruits of victory suddenly arched its body, and a glaring blood mist exploded on its front chest ribs!

The powerful kinetic energy directly flipped it over, rolling half a circle, and it slammed heavily onto the snow, dying instantly!

It was indeed the true ”brain” of this wolf pack!

The tragic death of the she-wolf made the charging Alpha Male Wolf let out a howl of extreme grief!

The cunningness in its eyes was instantly replaced by boundless madness, abandoning all tactics!

It desperately charged straight towards Lin Yu’an’s high ground, attempting to avenge its mate!

The Alpha Male Wolf completely exposed itself!

”Garrett! It’s yours now!”

Lin Yu’an calmly issued the order while pulling the bolt to re-lock onto the battlefield.

”Got it!”

Garrett had been waiting for this moment! His Remington 700 let out a crisp shot, the bullet precisely hitting the Alpha Male Wolf’s front leg.

The male wolf staggered and fell, but its anger from losing its mate made it struggle to get back up!

Lin Yu’an’s second bullet had already arrived quietly.

”Boom!”

Another boom, ending the pain and madness of this male wolf.

Both leaders were killed in just over ten seconds, completely shattering the will of the remaining wolves.

They let out a series of desperate howls, tucked their tails, and fled in all directions without looking back.

The battle was over.

The snow was left with three wolf corpses.

The air was filled with thick smoke and the smell of blood, mixed with the terrified pants of the cattle.

When the brothers converged from their respective ambush points and walked to the she-wolf’s corpse.

They all understood that if Lin Yu’an hadn’t abandoned the plan to kill the seemingly most threatening male wolf and instead shot the she-wolf, the battle wouldn’t have ended so quickly.

At this moment, Garrett belatedly said, ”Why didn’t I think of that! Once Alpha Wolf’s mate dies, the other would definitely lose its mind!”

”Herman, you acted brilliantly under pressure! You thought of another way to break the deadlock so quickly!”

Wyatt walked up and gave Lin Yu’an a tight hug, sincerely saying, ”Herman, that was amazing! That shot was brilliant; you saved my farm brothers!”

Then Wyatt took out his phone, dialed the FWP’s 24-hour enforcement hotline, and pressed the record button.

”Hello, I am Wyatt McKinley, farmer registration number XXXX. I am reporting a property defense incident according to Montana Code 87-6-907.”

”At 7:42 this evening, a wolf pack was attacking my cattle herd, and to protect property, we killed three wolves.”

”There is full video documentation of the attack process; please send an officer to verify and handle the situation.”

That night, Wyatt’s farm held a grand bonfire feast.

By the roaring bonfire, Robert personally poured Lin Yu’an a glass of the strongest whiskey.

Then, facing everyone, he announced loudly, ”To the new hero of the McKinley family, to Herman Lin, cheers!”
