King of the Wilderness

Chapter 86: Chapter 84: Managing One Million US Dollars

After wrapping up all external affairs, Lin Yu’an’s life swiftly returned to tranquility.

While dealing with academic issues, Lin Yu’an had another equally important and urgent matter to attend to.

It was to cash the million-dollar check lying quietly in his drawer.

On the second week of his intense study sessions, Lin Yu’an took half a day off and, together with Aliya, drove his second-hand Ford pickup to the downtown branch of the Bank of America.

When Lin Yu’an handed the million-dollar check along with his green card to the bank teller, the young teller’s eyes widened upon seeing the amount on the check.

She confirmed it multiple times and immediately used the internal phone to respectfully contact her supervisor.

Soon, a middle-aged man dressed in a sharp suit, looking like a lobby manager, walked out briskly and politely invited Lin Yu’an and Aliya into the VIP reception room.

”Good afternoon, Mr. Lin, Ms. McKinley.”

With a smile, the manager poured them coffee and hot milk: ”Handling such a large check requires some time for verification. While you wait, Mr. James, our senior wealth consultant, would like to have the opportunity to chat with you and provide some free financial planning advice.”

Lin Yu’an and Aliya exchanged a glance and agreed.

A moment later, James, who appeared to be in his forties and wore gold-rimmed glasses, walked in.

With a smile, James said, ”Congratulations, Mr. Lin, Lady Ailia! Having a substantial sum like a million dollars, it is crucial to make proper financial plans for the future!”

He skillfully displayed various charts on his tablet and began introducing some stable asset allocation plans.

”I suggest investing most of the funds in traditional assets like US Treasury bonds and S&P 500 index funds, as their long-term returns are stable and the risks are relatively low...”

Lin Yu’an listened quietly to James’s professional analysis, but he already had his own plans in mind.

He politely waited for James to finish his introduction, then spoke up: ”Thank you, Mr. James, your advice is very professional. However, I have a bolder idea regarding the use of this money.”

Both James and Aliya looked at him curiously.

”I want to use most of this money to buy Bitcoin.”

”Bitcoin?”

James’s eyebrows immediately furrowed, he adjusted his glasses, and his professional and polite smile became somewhat stiff.

”Mr. Lin, with all due respect, Bitcoin is a highly speculative asset with extremely high risk! Its price fluctuates greatly, it lacks substantial value support, and the regulatory landscape is unclear!”

”Investing the main assets of your family into it is... almost akin to gambling. I don’t recommend any of my clients to do this.”

”Mr. James, I understand your concerns and respect your professional opinion. But I have my own assessment and obsession with the future of digital assets.”

He certainly couldn’t say he was a reincarnator and knew what was going to happen next. He could only explain it with a tone of ”technical faith.”

”I believe decentralized digital currency based on blockchain technology represents a future trend. Now is the eve of its recognition by mainstream markets.”

Lin Yu’an remembered very clearly! In his past life, December 2020 was the start of an epic bull market for Bitcoin.

In less than a year afterward, its price would soar all the way, once hitting over sixty thousand dollars, reaching a historical high! Now is a once-in-a-lifetime, ideal buying opportunity!

James looked at Lin Yu’an’s resolute gaze, and knew he couldn’t persuade him.

He could only shrug helplessly and faithfully remind him: ”Alright, Mr. Lin. Since you’re determined, I must remind you to manage your position well and be psychologically prepared for drastic fluctuations.”

”Additionally, buying and holding large amounts of cryptocurrency requires using reputable trading platforms and storing them in secure hardware wallets.”

James felt he had encountered an unreasonable ”gambler.”

Eventually, with Lin Yu’an’s insistence, James stopped persuading but still offered a final professional suggestion.

”Since you’re determined to invest in high-risk ventures, then you should more firmly establish a robust ’safety net’ for your family.”

James’s expression was extremely serious: ”Before you invest a cent in that market, I strongly urge you to configure comprehensive insurance for yourself and your soon-to-be-mother wife.”

”Especially for you, as the future economic pillar of the family, high-value life insurance and long-term disability insurance are absolutely necessary. This is the most responsible investment for your family.”

Lin Yu’an listened attentively and deeply agreed with James’s suggestion.

After successfully cashing the million-dollar check, he didn’t hesitate and used $100,000 of liquid funds to contact the insurance broker recommended by James.

First, he secured a term life insurance policy with a coverage of three million dollars valid for thirty years, with Aliya and their future children as beneficiaries.

Given his very young age and optimal health rating, the annual premium for this enormous coverage was less than two thousand dollars.

He also configured the highest limit long-term disability insurance, ensuring that even if an accident prevented him from working, the family would still have a continuous income source.

The annual cost of this insurance was quite high, approximately four thousand dollars.

He immediately prepaid the total first-year premiums for both insurance policies, totaling about six thousand dollars.

For his current funds, this sum was just a drop in the bucket, and it brought Aliya peace of mind, which was absolutely worth it.

At the same time, he upgraded the highest level of family health insurance for Aliya and their soon-to-be-born twins.

Ensuring that whatever health issues they might encounter in the future, they could enjoy top-notch medical services.

Having completed all this, he then commenced his Bitcoin investment plan.

Over the next few days, he purchased all $900,000 worth of Bitcoin in batches through a compliant cryptocurrency exchange in the United States.

When the last transaction was complete, he looked at the long string of cold numbers in his hardware wallet and let out a long sigh of relief.

He knew he had already planted a seed of wealth set to grow into a towering tree in the future.

Having completed all these tasks, he poured his focus back into the ocean of textbooks and exercises.

He no longer cared about the rapidly growing number of followers on his Bilibili account, nor did he mind the various online discussions concerning him, and even chose to momentarily ignore the slightly rising price curve of Bitcoin.

Lin Yu’an immersed himself completely in the world of knowledge, striving for a clear goal with all his might.

His brain, strengthened by the Golden Finger, could precisely capture and memorize every knowledge point clearly.

Those problems that once puzzled him now appeared to him as basic logical modules.

Finally, before the semester-end final exams, he proactively contacted the professors of his core courses.

He didn’t explain much about his absences, but simply sent all the completed homework sets, experimental simulation reports, and several deeply insightful course papers to them.

The professors were deeply shocked when they received the email and opened the attachments.

They couldn’t imagine how a student who missed almost three months of lectures could not only catch up on all the content within such a short period but also exhibit depth in understanding certain issues beyond classroom teaching.

Ultimately, they unanimously agreed that Lin Yu’an did not need to participate in the regular final exams, but rather pass directly based on these high-quality assignments and a comprehensive course design report.

When the semester officially concluded and the final grades were announced in mid-December, all of Lin Yu’an’s courses were passed with excellent grades of ”A-” or ”B+”.

His graduation thesis also received a high evaluation due to its unique ”practical perspective” and ”rigorous data analysis.”

The professors strongly urged Lin Yu’an to continue his studies at the Mechanical Engineering master’s degree level.

Yet Lin Yu’an politely declined, as he no longer aimed for that anymore!

A few days later, he and Aliya both wore brand-new bachelor gowns to attend the graduation ceremony at Texas Tech University’s Edward Whitacre Engineering College.

When he received the ”Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering” diploma from the college dean, there wasn’t much ecstasy in his heart, only a sense of relief.

His life had shifted from the single path of a ”Mechanical Engineering student” to a new path with dual lines in family and career!

With the conclusion of the graduation ceremony, Lin Yu’an completely shed all academic burdens.

He carefully stored away the hard-earned diploma and then immersed himself entirely in enjoying family life and preparing for the upcoming Christmas.
