The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 268: Chapter 268 Success

Song Ci wanted to meet someone, but instead of using his own name, he used his son’s name and had someone bring him to the second gate, then arranged for a beautiful maid to stage an accident.

Madam Wei cast a glance at this old sister, wondering how she became such a lively old child after falling ill.

Staging an accident, how clever of her to think of that.

But it was thanks to this staged accident that she managed to see that Yan Scholar indeed had an upright character, and he was truly good-looking. Although he couldn’t compare to that Wei, his gentle scholarly aura was very pleasing to the eye.

The more Madam Wei looked, the more satisfied she was.

The only pity was his poor family background. But then she thought, if he came from a high family, it wouldn’t be Man’er’s turn.

Song Ci had a very good point; many of the official family proposals they received were from unworthy illegitimate sons or ruined families. Genuine legitimate sons or promising ones simply weren’t proposed.

There’s no other way, who asked for Man’er to be an orphan girl without a family?

Madam Wei watched as Yan Scholar fled in a panic, satisfied and smiling, just about to speak when the old sister began to talk.

”Quite handsome, and a good build. Seems like he’s a strong man and not one of those scholars who can’t even lift a finger, he’s likely done physical labor before. That’s very good, he can surely carry the bride.”

Madam Wei: ”...”

What could she say?

After seeing the man, Madam Wei thought about the upcoming autumn examinations; it’s better to settle things early rather than late. She immediately agreed with Song Ci on a day to meet and hurried home to inform Wang Qiuman, ready to persuade her, but unexpectedly, she agreed right away.

”Man’er, don’t you feel wronged?”

Wang Qiuman snuggled in her arms, affectionately rubbing against her, and said, ”Others don’t despise me for being an orphan girl, why would I feel wronged?”

Most importantly, she didn’t want to see her grand-aunt troubled and sleepless over her affairs anymore. Marrying is just marrying, it’s just about living in a different place.

If the other party is good, then they’ll live a harmonious life; if not, later she could live in a separate residence by herself.

Madam Wei felt a slight ache in her heart and said, ”Don’t feel wronged. Your grand-aunt and the Madam of the Song Family have both seen him. He’s indeed a good child. Even if you don’t trust us two old ladies, you should trust Prime Minister Song. He reached his position at this age not by flattery, but by sharp insight. Even he says the child is good, so he must be.”

”Mm.”

Madam Wei mentioned it to her again, and two days later, she took her to the temple for incense, naturally coincidentally encountering that Yan Scholar with Song Ci.

Having been through so many setbacks in marriage matters, Wang Qiuman’s heart was long at peace. Seeing Yan Zisheng, the two stood facing each other in silence for a while before getting straight to the point.

”Mr. Yan, I am an orphan; both of my parents have passed away.”

”What a coincidence, my father has also passed away, leaving only my old mother and a younger sister at home.”

Wang Qiuman blinked and lowered her eyes, ”If this marriage happens, I only have a dowry.”

Yan Zisheng: ”I only have a belly full of what you might call talent. If it happens, I can read and recite poems for you.”

Wang Qiuman smiled gently, ”I could serve your mother-in-law and sister-in-law, and manage domestic affairs.”

Yan Zisheng’s eyes lit up, ”I will earn you a phoenix-red bridal gown.”

Wang Qiuman’s eyes moistened; she pulled out a Good Luck Charm she had just obtained from the temple and offered it, ”I wish Mr. Yan great success and that all your wishes come true.” After a pause, she blushed and added, ”I will be at home waiting for the Official Matchmaker to visit.”

Song Ci and Madam Wei, listening through a door, exchanged glances.

It was settled!
