The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 262: Chapter 262: Enjoy Throwing Your Weight Around

”Mother, were you looking for me?”

Song Zhiyuan strode in.

Song Ci smiled and said, ”It’s nothing important, just wanted to chat with you.”

Song Zhiyuan sat down, leaning against a bamboo pillow, and smiled, ”It’s rare for you to have this interest.”

”In this grand estate, I’m the most idle one, an old lady like me, just as long as I’m not hindering you from your official duties.”

Song Zhiyuan heard this and said, ”If you feel cooped up in the estate, you could spend some days at the Summer Resort. The children also have a few days off during the busy farming season; you can ask them to accompany you.”

Song Ci’s heart was moved, but she thought that after Song Ruqi’s engagement, the Gu family was busy like a spinning top, even enlisting the help of two younger siblings, so she decided not to add to the chaos.

”Ruqi’s engagement is settled, and the Gu family are busy. If I go to the resort, it would cause quite a stir and also worry you all, so I’d rather not. Besides, with ice basins set up every day in the house, it’s not too hot either.”

Song Zhiyuan was somewhat helpless and said, ”It’s just a matter of instructing the servants, how would that cause a stir? If you wish to go, just say the word. Our estate doesn’t lack people to serve; if we do, we can always hire more.”

”Alright.” Song Ci thought for a moment and cautiously asked, ”By the way, the matter of me disciplining those young ladies at Duke Ying’s Mansion, has it caused you any trouble?”

Song Zhiyuan was momentarily stunned, then smiled and said, ”It’s a trivial matter; you need not worry about it. It won’t cause me any trouble. Moreover, even the Emperor praised you for your wisdom and fairness.”

Song Ci breathed a sigh of relief, ”That’s good. I was just worried those people might secretly try to trip you up.”

Song Zhiyuan had a hint of pride between his brows and said, ”They wouldn’t dare. Mother, times have changed. You are now a first-ranking Imperial Decree-ranking Madam, there’s no need to worry about anyone’s opinions. Just do as you please, I’ll back you up on any major matters.”

Seeing his confident demeanor, Song Ci felt emotional, ”Oh, old lady, you really are unfortunate. Though you’ve reached such a lofty status, why did you leave so easily?”

”Mother?”

Song Ci snapped back to reality, blurting out, ”Hmm, then I will enjoy my power and authority in the future!”

Song Zhiyuan: ”...”

Song Ci felt a bit awkward, laughed awkwardly twice, and changed the topic, ”By the way, I actually have something to ask you. Previously you mentioned being interested in someone from a poor family. Was that person a guest elder behind our estate’s South Garden? Are they betrothed now?”

The topic shifted so fast, Song Zhiyuan couldn’t keep up immediately. It wasn’t until she asked if there was a betrothal that he slowly realized and asked, ”Are you planning to be a matchmaker, Mother?”

Song Ci nodded, ”Didn’t I mention before about wanting to match Wei Madam’s grand-niece with Sir Lang?”

”Yes, you did mention it.”

”Sir Lang wasn’t interested, and Wei Madam found someone from the Marquis Weiyuan Mansion, that illegitimate son named Wei Cheng.”

”Isn’t the eldest son of the Wei family already engaged to the Wei family’s Miss?” Song Zhiyuan vaguely remembered someone mentioning it, but these matters weren’t worth taking to heart. Now that Song Ci mentioned it, he recalled.

Song Ci sneered, ”That’s a filthy mess, so here’s what happened...”

She explained the whole story and concluded, ”It’s just that I feel sorry for Wang Qiuman, that child, she’s a good girl and deserves a good match. I’ve asked her, and she doesn’t mind if the other party comes from a poor family, as long as their character passes muster. I thought of someone on your side, if it’s suitable, do you think you can matchmake?”

Song Zhiyuan said, ”Since you, Mother, think so highly of that young lady, I’ll go and ask on your behalf.”
