Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1101: Chapter 610: You Can’t Outplay Her

Lance voiced the information he had gathered from Governor Ovando, and the immense weight of the topic immediately overshadowed the previous gravity.

”You should know her status; she has a claim to the line of succession. Are you aware of the trouble that might arise from having an Imperial Noble princess familiar with the political affairs of the Hamlet system? You’re nurturing an enemy.”

”That... seems unlikely, doesn’t it?” Grendel was aware of the irreconcilable conflicts between Hamlet and the Empire, but from recent contacts, she didn’t seem like that kind of person.

In response, Lance continued with a cold smile.

”Ambition grows over time. Without the capability, she wouldn’t consider much. Yet, once she gains it through Hamlet, she will certainly seek more.

The rebels everywhere wish to find her for her claim; if she is willing, she would immediately gain their support.

Neither the Empire nor the rebels would allow Hamlet to rise again, as this would harm their interests.

Having someone familiar with Hamlet and aware of many of our secrets stand with them is too dangerous for us.”

Lance knew his words were somewhat vague, so he immediately provided some interesting details.

”If you truly understood her actions, you’d realize she’s quite ruthless. Her current display of weakness is merely a guise for sympathy. Laura first met her when...”

Lance had indeed studied Sofia, confirming through Laura and Margaret’s words.

In the chaotic and dark environment of the Eagle’s Nest, just a moment’s eye contact revealed a trace of Laura’s reluctance. From crying one moment, to decisively seeking help the next?

She even faked death to fool those Eagle Flock members? Experienced hunters couldn’t distinguish between faint and feigned death?

The darkness and the commotion caused by Laura’s hat being knocked off certainly contributed, but Lance even suspected Sofia’s collision with the table and subsequent fainting was likely staged.

Because Laura mentioned just raising her hand to deflect rather than push away, yet Sofia leaned back and accurately struck the table. Even when talking about it, Laura said she didn’t realize what had happened.

It’s likely she was creating chaos, capitalizing on Laura’s distraction to fake her death.

This further highlights Sofia’s scheming nature, as she had already planned her escape while dragging Laura down with her.

Moreover, her calmness and resilience during the escape from Bastia were horrifying.

Despite the serious injuries, she managed to follow Laura without panic.

Laura feared exposure, telling her not to speak, and she did not say a word throughout.

Not just the escape from the city, but from the Eagle’s Nest all the way to Hamlet.

Such execution capability, even Lance may not achieve.

Blending in with refugees, reaching Hamlet under extremely harsh conditions isn’t something that can be easily explained.

Compared to Margaret, it’s clear.

A noble with a habit of hunting and exercising barely made it, yet Sofia, despite her injuries, supported each other with Margaret to reach Hamlet.

Can you really call her a pampered princess?

Even the Warwolf isn’t this strong!

This woman is remarkable...

”Do you remember how you managed to leave the mountains? Without a sense of belief, such a feat is impossible. Her mind and willpower even frighten me.”

Seemingly belatedly, Grendel fell into deep thought.

She hadn’t considered such complexities, and her concern for Sofia really stemmed from her status as a princess.

Moreover, her tragic past evoked sympathy and a sense of control over her.

In a way, it was a form of psychological manipulation, but after Lance’s words, Grendel realized she might be the one being manipulated, right?

Such profound machinations, I’ve been deceived!

”Are you saying everything she told me was false?”

”Think for a moment, if what she said was true, and she was an ordinary person, could she really evade military capture so easily? Could she escape after being caught?”

As he spoke, Lance couldn’t help but shake his head and sigh: ”You~ are still too kind, not everyone is a good person like me.”

Whether Lance felt shy saying this, who knows, but Grendel fell silent, realizing she’d likely been duped, her gentle expression giving way to anger.

”Why didn’t you tell me she was a problem?”

”I did!” Lance immediately retorted: ”I told you back then she had secrets and warned you not to get involved with her.”

Grendel thought for a moment and realized that was how it was meant to be understood; she hadn’t considered it then...

She wasn’t one to be unreasonable, and couldn’t vent her frustration on Lance. After pondering for a while, she spoke to Lance.

”I’m going to take her out.”

Well, Lance couldn’t help but sigh at the Barbarian Tribe’s ruthless thinking upon hearing this.

Even Grendel, with her relatively gentle nature, considered directly solving the problem instinctively.

”I have a potion, which, once consumed, renders a person completely mindless...”

Seeing Lance wasn’t responding, she added, there’s a non-lethal option too.
