Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1129: Chapter 624: I’m Not Saying You Can’t Survive, But Know When to Stop

He did take the chance to speak up for those abandoned doctors, exposing the ugly face of the association.

This story might remain just like the legends Paracelsus once heard about the academy.

Of course, more likely, he became a joke because the decision was only discussed internally within the association at that time.

The decision was changed before it was spread, and no one could prove it for him at all.

Originally, those who should have been abandoned were the ones staying in Hamlet, but under the association’s operations, he was the one expelled.

Which is why he came here today.

”What a pity.”

Lance couldn’t help but slowly shake his head, expressing a sense of regret.

Old scholars are like that, unable to adapt, hard to achieve great things.

If he had taken the task, then coming to Hamlet as the leader to say these things, Lance could have used his power to raid the association’s resources, rather than listening to his complaints.

However, Lance still had to make a statement.

”Professor, please stay assured and stay, I will have them handle this matter well.”

For him, accepting a person is not a big deal, especially a professor, although what he’s studied might not be very applicable, the more important thing is Hamlet needs a managerial talent for the medical system.

He is very suitable, otherwise the association wouldn’t have planned to let him be in charge of this matter, let alone being an expert professor from the academy.

”I did not come to seek sanctuary.” The professor felt the lord might have misunderstood something, and immediately added, ”I came to warn the lord that the association’s change of direction is definitely not because of me; they must have some conspiracy against Hamlet.”

”Rest assured, professor, Hamlet never mistreats friends, nor spares enemies.”

Lance has always been indifferent, with many eyes on Hamlet; a couple of drug venders make no difference.

”Hamlet welcomes talent; the development of medical technology requires joint efforts from everyone to find cheaper, more effective treatment methods to save more people.

To be honest, seeing those patients not getting treated, suffering to death from minor illnesses, breaks my heart~”

Lance nearly appeared ”tearful” as he uttered these words, trying to morally persuade one with a strong sense of ethics.

The professor felt ashamed upon hearing this, ”Alas... I have forgotten why I became a doctor in the first place.”

But a university professor is different; he still didn’t simply agree and instead proposed an interesting plan.

”I haven’t been a doctor for many years, nor have I practiced; my skills are long rusty, and I’m unfamiliar with your surgical factions, so I can’t do much by staying here.

But I can reach out to some excellent students who might help the lord.”

The most important thing for a professor is capability, but being in this circle for so many years, he had some connections even though expelled by the association.

Needless to say, his suggestion seemed feasible to Lance.

The messy things learned in school don’t matter, what’s important is proven capability after systematic screening. At that point, coming to Hamlet for further learning and transformation would be no different than with Paracelsus.

The two discussed and quickly settled this matter.

”The next ship is estimated to be two or three days later, you can rest for a few days; I will grant you access to our research reports, and you can discuss them with those students by then.”

”Aren’t you afraid I’m a spy arranged by the association? How can I earn the lord’s trust like this...”

The professor, after all, had encountered certain things; it wasn’t like he hadn’t seen the association steal research results.

But he didn’t expect the lord to believe him so easily, given that no one could prove what he said.

Now granting him access to results, such trust made him, accustomed to the harshness of reality, somewhat uncomfortable.

”At that time, Totnes must be gossiping about monsters in Hamlet; you risked so much to come here and warn Hamlet, I have no reason not to believe.”

If Lance’s words were credible by thirty percent, it would be an exaggeration; the results the professor could see were doubtlessly screened.

As for trust, Lance feared nothing; no one could lie in front of him.

But the professor appreciated this; in such chaotic and desperate times, humanity had long lost these emotions, yet still yearned for acknowledgment and trust.

Lance’s casually spoken words carried immense weight for the professor.

While Lance was meeting the professor, some heavyweight individuals had also come along with the ship.

A group was intercepted in front of the administrative building, appearing with typical mercenary-style gear, some with extraordinarily robust builds, others agile, each wielding swords, shields, or bows, exuding fierceness.

One man seemed like the leader, questioning the person before them.

”Isn’t this the Mercenary Guild?”

”No.”

The mercenaries involuntarily looked up at the building ahead upon hearing this.

The Mercenary Guild’s outposts always have iconic features like church buildings, although this building had undergone some renovations and lacked the flags and signs, the core design couldn’t change.

”If you have nothing to do, just leave, don’t block the door.” Seeing their stance, the staff couldn’t help but remind them.
