Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1131: Chapter 625: Research Institute Achievements

Under the Lord’s obsession, the research institute gathered those collected top craftsmen and technical talents.

Their work involved various verifications, experiments, and studies to solve the problems proposed by the Lord.

The core of this was improving weapons like guns and cannons, from craftsmanship to materials.

Lance’s research into firearms was only based on playing those games and reading novels, knowing a general situation, unlike the novel protagonist who could cross over and directly craft an AK.

So, Lance basically wrote down whatever he thought of and then submitted the proposal to the institute; the appearance of the hydraulic forging hammer and hand-cranked lathe emerged under such a background.

They even managed to develop a hydraulic lathe, though somewhat unstable and still under testing; once it is ready, perhaps rifling and barrel drilling can be achieved.

To be honest, the quick advancement wasn’t due to Lance’s ideas but because these concepts themselves evolved from windmill technology, carrying accumulated technical knowledge, and similar technologies already existed in this world, just that this one was more stable.

The workshop being built by the riverside was not without reason; industrial production requires a large water source, and it also provides relatively stable and sustained power.

However, Lance quickly felt something was amiss, as if he’d been deceived by novels; the introduction of hydraulic hammers and manual lathes might increase efficiency somewhat but didn’t have an overly dramatic effect.

What truly changed the situation was a crucial technology—Blast Furnace Steelmaking.

This made metallurgy advance by leaps and bounds, though unfortunately, without coal, only coke could be used, otherwise it would be even faster.

Iron Mold Cannon Casting and Sand Casting technologies are still under research...

But this time, he came not for that but for some anti-corrosion metal.

Last time, Lance sorted out the forging method for a new type of metal and handed it to the institute to attempt reproduction.

The complexity of the process and required materials had a taste of mysticism, as the most critical material was one processed by a special potion that could even dissolve gold.

In the extraordinary power of the potion, the gold liquid was infused with eerie power changing its properties.

For the potion preparation ceremony, Lance received help from consultants Alhazred and Amanda, so it wasn’t an issue.

As for the rest, like basic materials, they were directly purchased from Totnes; with money, anything can be bought.

”It’s been made, and the properties are roughly similar to the original, but we also discovered some issues, such as being intolerant to high temperatures.

In comparison tests, it melts early before the steel does, and its strength is not great, but its toughness is excellent...”

Master Eugene and Lance entered the warehouse to show the casting results.

The dark gold cage, along with dark gold shackles and chains, and on the other side were those dark gold weapons confiscated from the Bay—these were the source of the smelting material.

After all, now Hamlet wants to master the technology completely, but large-scale manufacturing is still challenging.

The capability isn’t there yet, you know.

Lance picked up a chain, stretching it with both hands. Eugene initially didn’t think much, until the chain tightened in the Lord’s hands and emitted a teeth-gritting squeeze sound before breaking in the next second, causing a clashing noise.

This directly stunned Eugene; was this something a person could break?

Knowing according to design requirements, even four horses pulling it didn’t break it, why in the Lord’s hands it seemed as easy as molding clay?

Lance slightly frowned, looking at the broken gap, not a fracture, but a slide, confirming Eugene’s earlier statement.

As for high-temperature intolerance, Flesh Devourer doesn’t breathe fire.

”Still too thin...” Pausing for two seconds, he continued, ”Next batch, make it thicker and larger, think of a way to complete the gap.”

Lance wanted to redo it, but there’s no time now to do it slowly, so he had to make do.

”Have you tried covering it with a layer, then using steel inside...”

Lance put forward several plans to Eugene, resembling a demanding client, adding conditions and exerting pressure on them.

But it couldn’t be helped, otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to melt those antiques for quick completion.

Eugene wasn’t very surprised because the Lord often put pressure on them, so they were used to it.

However, he had a surprise for the Lord.

”The revolver pistol design submitted by the Lord has been completed.”

”So fast!”

Lance couldn’t help but show surprise.

Although he wasn’t well-researched in firearms, he knew a general development trajectory.

He described some technical features, drew diagrams for tangible objects, basically depicting everything he remembered, submitting them to the institute to begin preliminary research.

Originally, it was just a topic placed there; Lance didn’t expect anyone to complete it so quickly.

”Which team completed it?”

This question from Lance indicated the current situation of the institute, which was divided into teams researching different topics, without mentors to guide them, advancing towards the requirements set by the Lord.

But Eugene’s next words surprised Lance slightly.

”It was Richard who completed it; he indeed is a genius, flipping through all my blueprints in just two months.

I have nothing left to teach him, so I could only direct him to this project, wanting him to experience some challenges, but...”
