Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1001: Chapter 563: I Recognize Money, Not People

Lance explained his plan to profit from the speculation of relics. He spoke quite eloquently, but Grendel wasn’t very excited; instead, she fell into deep thought.

She’s not the kind of person to flatter others. Instead of blindly praising the plan, she needs to find its flaws and help Lance refine it as much as possible.

”You have always opposed using large-scale armed forces, fearing that too much death would fuel the evil cult’s rituals. Now, with this action, many people may get injured or killed when they intrude, wouldn’t that help the evil cult grow?”

”To advance openly along the rural path while secretly crossing at Chen Cang,” Lance blurted out in response.

However, this was neither the common language nor the language of the Barbarian Tribes. It carried an ancient rhythm, like an incantation, making it difficult to understand.

Simply put, it means—what are you talking about?

This is the true goal that all the plans point to, and Lance hesitated whether to disclose it, his eyes meeting Grendel’s.

In the end, he decided to explain the true core of the plan.

”First, you must understand why there are skeletons in the relic. It’s a trap set by the Ascension Sect to protect their core. Anyone wanting to uncover its secrets must break through the endless line of skeletons.

Charging in headfirst against the skeletons means that unless the Necromancer is found, the death toll will only empower the Ascension Sect, and the bodies left behind will rise again as new skeletons.

But I’m not a fool; I won’t fall into the evil cult’s muddy pit by following their setup into the relic.

However, if we want to approach this unsolvable problem from another angle, we’ll need someone to help us bolster our forces from the front.

Pretend that we’re being held back to numb the Ascension Sect. That’s why I said all these plans aim to draw the enemy’s attention.”

Lance never planned to chew on this meatless bone. When the heir arrived, this scheme was brought forth—it’s as if the ancestors were trying to appease a beggar.

”Are you thinking of going through the Beast Lair? That was once the old city’s sewers; perhaps it holds a bypass.”

”No, I don’t have time to meander in the Beast Lair. I’ll go through the Bay to bypass the relic.”

In games, each scenario has to be tackled, but now in the real world, Lance doesn’t need to follow any rules. As long as he finds an opportunity, he’ll strike hard and swift.

Thunderous charge to the north, raid the old house!

”Once things here are under control, I’ll head to the Bay alone,” Lance said, his words carrying a hint of menace. It was clear that the ancestor’s sneak attack had truly angered him; he was running out of patience and planned to tackle things head-on by himself.

”Alone?”

”If we’re to bypass it, fewer people are better, and the Bay’s situation is still unclear. It’s more convenient for me to go alone.”

”Hmm~” Grendel nodded slightly in agreement, but the worry on her face hadn’t faded.

”I’ll handle these matters,” Lance reassured her, standing up to embrace her and comfort her, ”Don’t worry, I won’t take unnecessary risks. I can’t bear to leave you behind.”

Lance’s reaction amused Grendel, who quipped, ”I’m not a little girl.”

”I think so too, you’re a big...”

As the two of them were getting cozy, Lance suddenly seemed to realize something and quickly let go of Grendel.

”The debt collector is here. Just say I’m not around.”

With that, Lance bolted, avoiding the door and climbing out through the window instead.

The large stone and wood structure felt like flat ground to Lance, especially since it was only the third floor.

Grendel was left holding her head with one hand and supporting herself on the table with the other, clearly exasperated.

But from the smile on her lips, it was evident she found it delightful.

Lance, who wasn’t afraid of the Evil God, actually feared debt collectors. Perhaps no one else would get to see this side of him, except her.

And just then, the office door swung open without a knock, accompanied by Tiffany’s voice.

”Why hasn’t the promised money arrived yet! Why are there so many extra expenses?”

Only after she finished speaking did she realize that Grendel was the only person there, and her previously fierce demeanor softened instantly.

”Why is it Miss Dai’er? Isn’t that Lord supposed to be here?”

”He’s busy dealing with those matters.” Grendel stepped forward, soothing Tiffany’s agitated mood, ”Tell me what’s going on; what did the Lord do to upset you?”

”There’s hardly any money left in the account, and now there are all these expenses...” Tiffany picked up some documents to show—clearly, she had just finished compiling the data.

As she listened to Tiffany’s complaints, Grendel quickly scanned through them.

The most urgent matter was the fleet’s cargo, which required funding, while the goods produced in Hamlet weren’t worth much.

In simple terms, there was a trade deficit that Hamlet needed to cover. These gold coins were vital but were leaving without bringing any profit to Hamlet.

Since those people were set to leave tomorrow and once they got Lance’s exact timing, they stopped bothering the Lord and went to Tiffany for money instead.

So after sending those merchants on their way, she came storming in.

”I don’t understand war expenses, and I can’t question the compensations needed, but with this kind of spending, no one can balance these accounts.”
