Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1025: Chapter 572: Have You Heard the Tale of the Wandering Hero...

The chaos in Ovando City stems from several aspects.

On the surface, the defeat of the city defense force and the sheriff symbolizes the collapse of Ovando’s power, and without power, it is difficult to maintain governance.

But in reality, the true core lies in the network formed by bureaucrats and rich merchants, which Lance has destroyed.

Moreover, those capable of influencing the situation, such as the Church and the Mercenary Guild, have already been dealt with in advance.

If the governor were still alive, he could easily rally a large number of people to fight for him, and ordinary people would find it hard to resist.

The fall of the wealthy district wasn’t breached by the mob, but rather the guards found that their bosses had disappeared, losing the meaning to continue fighting, and simply surrendered those places.

The mob, having suffered great casualties, burst in and found no money, treasures, or women, their worldview collapsing on the spot.

With no meaning to fight, they vented their anger on the guards.

Most had already been taken out by Lance last night, and the remaining had no way out.

Once all the guards were dead, the mob also dispersed for a time.

However, the chaos did not cease; on the contrary, the mob began turning their weapons on other ordinary people, and the chaos in Ovando began to spread.

At this time, Vick led his team in a continuous attempt to suppress, but was powerless; just over two hundred people, with only knives in hand, could not solve the problems of a city in despair through killing.

Until Walter finally took action, deploying armed guards to seize the city gates, seal Ovando City, and then started appeasing the frenzied mob.

Very simply, with one sentence - time to eat!

The Walter Conglomerate had transported food from Hamlet, setting up porridge distribution for three days, telling those who wanted to eat to behave!

Walter had been distributing porridge in the city sporadically for some time, not much, but enough to establish a bit of reputation, and being an old brand, it had some credibility.

As for those who went mad and attacked them, it’s simple, the guards’ weapons were not for show.

Vick also led his team to assist Walter and finally took most of the day to quell the riots.

But the drama wasn’t over; after the situation stabilized, Walter met with Vick in front of everyone.

”What exactly happened here in Ovando City? Our grain transport team couldn’t enter, today we saw the fire and smoke...”

Walter, being an old hand, played his role brilliantly, understanding perfectly what needed to be done, immediately emphasizing he came when he noticed something was wrong.

He also blamed the bureaucrats for the inability to transport the grain, since they were all dead and couldn’t refute his claims.

He and Vick pushed all the blame onto those dead folks, since they had no objections anyway.

But suddenly Vick changed the tone, announcing he would leave Ovando.

At his words, his followers couldn’t hold back.

”Boss!”

”Say no more! I’ve made my decision, and you all should follow Boss Walter; I believe he won’t let you down.”

Vick straightforwardly refused his followers, nodded towards Walter, ”I’m leaving Ovando to you.”

Walter, seeing the situation, could only nod in agreement.

”Rest assured, I will arrange everything for them.”

Seeing this, Vick turned to his followers, shouting loudly.

”I am but an ordinary person, who couldn’t stand those guys bullying others, and that’s why I stood with my brothers, only reaching today because of everyone’s trust.

I never expected to cause this situation; if not for the Walter Conglomerate saving so many, who knows what would have happened in Ovando.

It shows I am no hero; rather, I am the sinner of Ovando, I hope you can be good people.”

Without saying more, he turned and left alone.

The crowd, hearing his words and watching Vick’s retreating figure, seemed to see a heroic character from a knight’s novel.

A passing sailor stepped up when seeing gangs harm ordinary people, then led the masses with a knife in hand to overthrow corrupt bureaucrats.

He could have ruled the city, but instead of clinging to power, he left with remorse.

Not long from now, this would likely become a legendary hero story circulating in Ovando City.

And many would be inspired, forcibly raising the moral level of Ovando.

Have you heard of the knight’s journey...

Of course, stories are beautified, representing people’s longing for beauty.

In reality, Vick wasn’t as legendary as these stories suggest; without Hamlet’s resources behind him, he couldn’t have gotten this far.

”My Lord, my mission is complete!” As soon as Vick came out, he found the Lord, obviously someone had driven the recent events.

”Very good, you did very well!” Lance had been watching and was quite satisfied with the scene.

And Vick wasted no time, directly voicing his doubt.

”What about those brothers?”

Lance naturally understood he was referring to those who had infiltrated with him, selected by Lance as his team members back then.

”You should know, I don’t like forcing someone to do what they dislike, so it’s up to them next.

They can continue to stay hidden in Ovando or return to Hamlet; of course, they can follow you on your next mission; they certainly won’t be mistreated.”
