Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1033: Chapter 576: Inside the Association of Healers

Our Lord still had no idea about the ”conspiracy” in the garden against him, as he was busy handling some matters that Grendel couldn’t decide on these days.

For instance, the remaining healers were always eager to visit or learn about Hamlet’s medical theories.

If it were anyone else, Lance wouldn’t bother, but these were experts and professors in the field of medicine, and everyone knew Lance had great respect for talent.

He originally thought of organizing a medical lecture with the medical staff, inviting them to explore medical knowledge together, essentially aiming to glean some of the professors’ insights.

Similarly, Lance wasn’t stingy about Hamlet’s research findings, after all, everyone was aware of the basics, such as human anatomy, though lacking in microscopic study and detailed understanding.

Seeing how they felt about Hamlet’s clinical medicine would determine the future impact on the Association of Healers, as Lance was interested in getting involved.

In simple terms, academic research needs to be shared for progress, and for this, Lance proactively went to visit.

But he hadn’t even entered when the guards blocked his way, having to wait for notice to see someone in Hamlet’s place? This left him a bit surprised.

However, out of respect for talent, he didn’t react much, while observing the guards from the Association of Healers.

These physiques weren’t ordinary people, cultivated from a young age along with those weapons, their strength was quite remarkable.

He’d heard long ago that their association was wealthy, even having an Order of Knights, and now it seemed true.

Finally, someone led Lance inside, where he saw everyone in the living room, but they appeared somewhat odd at the Lord’s arrival.

Lance sensed something was off. Clearly, they had asked for the learning exchange, but why did they seem this way when he came over?

His gaze swept over the awkward crowd, lingering slightly on a Knight in armor, suddenly realizing something.

He didn’t mention it further, instead, exchanged a few polite sentences before leaving.

Once outside, a suspicious expression appeared on Lance’s face, these people seemed strange, as if they were being held hostage.

With this thought, Lance went straight to the nursing home to find Paracelsus, who was working, to verify it.

”You should know something about the Association of Healers and those doctors at the medical academy, right?”

”Why are you asking all of a sudden?” Paracelsus was still observing the rats in the cage, occasionally noting some changes.

Lance recounted the scene earlier, then expressed his suspicion.

”It was clearly the observers who first proposed the exchange, but when I approached to discuss it, I found the Knight wasn’t protecting them but seemed to be monitoring and controlling them.”

Hearing this, Paracelsus paused his experiment, contemplated briefly, and then began to explain.

”I’ve heard some professors complain about these matters while at school, most doctors don’t seem to get along well with the association.”

”Tell me more in detail.”

Lance became interested; he thought it was a faction struggle, not realizing there were deeper reasons behind it.

”In school, there’s a course called ’History of Medical Development,’ where...”

Through Paracelsus’s narration, Lance roughly understood.

For a long time, doctor training was a mentorship, with no strict qualification certification, even an ordinary person claiming to be a doctor could practice.

This situation led to chaos in the world’s healthcare system, with charlatans disguising as doctors.

Swindling was one thing, but these unqualified doctors even ended up killing patients.

A few leading figures in medicine realized this couldn’t continue, hence forming the Association of Healers, instituting strict qualifications to ensure those joining were capable of genuinely treating patients.

This initiative led to their dispatching an observer team upon hearing leprosy was cured, due to historical origins.

The association’s action regulated the medical profession, saving it from being labeled as evil witchcraft and maintaining doctors’ social status.

To further promote medicine, those doctors began changing the mentorship model, founding medical academies as the tides of the era turned.

The method of doctors finding and nurturing talented students vanished, replaced by collective teaching, sowing the seeds for future troubles.

As medical schools produced more doctors, their influence grew, reaching a monopolistic level where only graduates could qualify to practice, excluding others.

This monopoly drove the association’s rapid growth, but also enamored it with the resulting benefits, turning the association, originally formed by pioneers to save doctors, into a twisted monster.

Lance understood, realizing the Association of Healers had strayed from its essence, now merely a collection of interests, or simply put, capital.

”So, it’s not surprising those guards kept the professors watched over since too much exposure would reveal their dirty secrets.”
