Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1000: Chapter 562: Opportunity (2)

Within the Association of Healers, there’s still a large number of people who find it difficult to accept these ideas. Research and promotion are only being conducted in a few areas, such as Totnes, the only place in the entire Empire where such research exists.

Of course, that’s just the official line. As for what’s happening behind the scenes, no one can really say.

It’s hard to determine the true situation of leprosy, but right now there’s finally been a breakthrough. Money isn’t the issue. Just look at their medical technology to judge their capability.

”Name your price.”

Upon hearing this, Lance couldn’t help but smile. Damn, he’s finally caught himself a wealthy one, must squeeze out some gold coins.

”One hundred gold coins per observation spot, other expenses are separate. Pay now and you can go directly.

If you buy the Fishmen corpses, I can rent you a professional venue for research, but keep in mind that corpses do decompose, so time is of the essence.”

After a brief exchange, the person immediately decided on five spots and went to fetch the money.

The person left the office, but Grendel wasn’t pleased with the transaction; instead, she appeared worried.

It’s important to know that the sanatorium holds more than just dissections... there are many things that can’t come to light. This isn’t about human experiments, but the drugs themselves.

Seeing this, he couldn’t help but remind her.

”The Association of Healers is essentially a pharmaceutical complex that solidifies its extraordinary status by monopolizing medical technology and certain special drugs, including raw materials.

Once our research results are released, their pharmaceuticals will become a joke, even less effective than the Church’s Divine Arts in emergencies.

Unless we hand over that potion, which is impossible, we are destined to be their enemies, enemies that will fight to the death.”

Grendel, being from the pharmaceutical industry, couldn’t possibly be blind to the nature of the Association of Healers, and could also see that what Hamlet was doing conflicted with their interests.

If they get a sense of the effects of our potion, they might move against Hamlet.

”We’re only allowing them to observe the dissection of Fishmen, the leprosy issue hasn’t even started yet.”

Lance spoke to soothe Grendel’s unease, knowing she believed the situation in Hamlet was already complicated enough; introducing the Association of Healers might make it even harder to manage.

”Even if we cooperate with them, allowing them to observe the treatment of leprosy, I have no intention of sharing this secret with them; the core of this knowledge is only known by you, me, and Paracelsus.

Moreover, do you think we can make that potion widespread? The acquisition of raw materials is too difficult, destined to be for a select few, just like the Church’s Divine Arts.

However, many of the Association of Healers’ channels are what we need. Using their power could rapidly develop Hamlet’s medical resources.

Not to mention they have technology that we need. What we need to do now is secure a position within the Association and leverage their power for development.”

Unlike Grendel’s opposition, Lance considered cooperation because the potion’s production couldn’t threaten them, and Lance didn’t even intend to sell the potion.

This would be one of Hamlet’s core specialty medical products.

Lance wasn’t foolish, and he certainly wouldn’t let himself suffer a loss with his personality.

Considering the different perspectives of both parties, differences are natural, but in most cases, Lance could convince Grendel.

Grendel knew once Lance made a decision, there was no point dwelling on it, but she couldn’t help but sigh. ”Hamlet is getting more chaotic...”

But hearing this, Lance laughed maniacally.

”Hahaha! It’s not us that’s getting more chaotic, it’s this world. Famine, war, death, and corrupt power will eventually sweep across the land, but then Hamlet will be the only hope and it will be our opportunity for a grand revival.”

Grinning, Lance added, ”I find it all increasingly thrilling!”

Lance’s optimistic and positive attitude greatly alleviated the gradually oppressive atmosphere in the room.

It seemed that as long as he was present, all problems would be resolved.

But unexpectedly, Lance suddenly threw another curveball at Grendel.

”I plan to spread the news about the ruins and tell the world that Hamlet’s legacy lies within the ruins, let them come and find it.”

”Ah!” Grendel no matter how didn’t keep up with his logic, and was left stunned.

”Don’t rush, hear me out and you’ll understand.” Lance lightly explained, as if unaware of how outrageous his statement sounded.

”I originally planned to open Hamlet’s port to introduce trade and revitalize the economy, but starting with the fact that we only have two ships and a navy of about two hundred men, we might not even be able to take on a larger pirate group.

Besides, even though we’ve repelled those Fishmen, they’re still lurking in nearby waters, and it’s doubtful any merchant ships will venture here.

Unless we raise prices, but that would be disastrous for already impoverished Hamlet. We’re aiming to develop, not slice pieces of ourselves to feed greedy merchants.

So we need to give them a sufficiently attractive target, something that doesn’t cost us a copper coin but draws them in voluntarily.”

As Lance looked at Grendel, she seemed to understand and added,

”An untouched treasure containing astonishing wealth — the Old City Ruins of Hamlet.”

But just after saying it, something felt off, prompting her to ask.

”Can’t we develop it ourselves?”

Indeed, although the city was destroyed by an evil cult, precisely because of this, any treasures inside might have been preserved.

However, Lance was indifferent, casually saying:

”The Ascension Sect thought the same, occupying it for over a decade. Even if there were good things left, they’d have taken them already, why wait for us?

Moreover, the area is now haunted by Skeletons controlled by necromancy. Unless we find and eliminate the hidden Necromancer, the Skeletons will be endless. It’s unrealistic for our thousand-strong army to clear the area.

On the contrary, using those greedy individuals could help us clear the ruins and draw away the Ascension Sect’s attention, creating opportunities for us.

More importantly, we can profit greatly from those flocking in. Imagine, they’ll need various supplies — weapons, equipment, food, and water.

If they get injured exploring, they’ll need treatment, right? We’ll set up a Field Hospital front and center, and whatever they earn ultimately ends up in our pockets. That’s why I want to work with the Association of Healers — Hamlet can’t handle this alone.

The demand for food, clothing, and other supplies needed by the explorers will consume Hamlet’s products. The demand for weapons and equipment will allow for expanded production, promoting technological advancement, and the hospital venture can cultivate medical personnel...

All this will stimulate Hamlet’s development and attract more talent. From the ruins of Hamlet, we will extract the final nutrients for our rebirth.”

No one’s ever gotten rich digging for gold directly, but many have by selling mining equipment and providing logistics.

Only Lance knew, Hamlet’s wealth had long been squandered by his ancestors. Otherwise, where do you think they got the money for their extraordinary experiments and for collecting Extraordinary items worldwide?

Even if there were random treasures in the ruins, they would have been cleaned up by the ancestors long ago, before it could reach him as the convenient heir.

Listening to Lance, Grendel realized he had already thought everything through. Nevertheless, she was shocked by the vision he painted.

Using an empty shell to mobilize such resources is akin to pulling off a perfect con job, and the influx of people and resources will spur Hamlet’s revival.

”I’ve placed all the wealth there. Go search for it...” Lance paid no mind to her reaction and spoke with a smile.

”Welcome to the era of the great development!”
