Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 1021: Chapter 570: The Time Has Come—Raise the Army Today!

After nightfall, Hamlet’s tavern was bustling with people. In just a few days, Hamlet had resumed operations, and everyone was back at work, with the tense and oppressive atmosphere having long dissipated.

Because now there was only one thing being discussed in the town, and that was the expansion of the outpost into a town and the further development of the wilderness.

Unlike the previous farms that were established, this endeavor was far more grand in scale and required more manpower.

Talking about current events is a hobby for most men, and everyone has something to say about that hot topic, with Hamlet being especially open to it.

”Hey! Did you hear? The Lord is planning to establish a town at the outpost.”

”Who wouldn’t know? The announcement has been up for a day, and many people want to go.”

”But isn’t that place a bit dangerous? It used to be attacked by heretics every day.”

”The past is the past, and now is now. If you keep treating the past as the present, why don’t you compare it to when you were just born?”

”Exactly, the Lord has led troops to clear out the heretics in the wilderness. We’re just focusing on constructing and developing near the town.”

”The announcement stated that the location of the outpost will eventually become...”

The discussions about this new information in the tavern were unending, with almost everyone immersed in excitement.

Previously established three large farms have been continuously supplying resources for the development of the town, and this is now an even larger project.

A major project indicates that Hamlet is still flourishing, and it can also alleviate the increasingly crowded situation due to the influx of refugees.

Giving people something to do prevents chaos, but it also challenges management skills.

Otherwise, why does the nobility system have the Knight’s Domain resembling a village, where the knight essentially acts as a village chief responsible for management?

Any ruler with a bit of sense understands that the extension of the political system is an extension of power, just like why doesn’t Count Bastia want to fully control the domain? Why does he rely on the nobility system and ends up being impeded?

Is it that they don’t want to? No, it’s that they can’t!

Because they truly can’t manage it, eventually forming this setup, as long as the money is handed over, they don’t care what you do in your domain.

Fortunately, Hamlet is starting anew, with a new structure tying power to responsibility, reshaping people’s views.

The current group of bureaucrats selected and promoted from ordinary people in Hamlet hold loyalty to the Lord. They haven’t yet fallen into corruption on a large scale, maintaining high efficiency and striving for a better future.

Of course, this is relative to other places, and more importantly, Lance is ruthless with bureaucratic corruption. They will lose the Lord’s favor and be sent to labor camps for digging.

Not sending them to sanatoriums is his last act of mercy.

Ultimately, even with fervent worship, Hamlet, in its upward phase, still cannot completely eradicate corruption, making it imaginable what the situation is like elsewhere.

Hamlet, being a small place, is still entirely controllable, but Lance is uncertain about what issues might arise once expanded.

Because with more people, there are inevitably fools—an age-old problem with no solution.

In the tavern, people were enthusiastically discussing what this new policy would bring.

Most of them were workers, various craftsmen, and these construction plans directly impacted their work.

Similarly, residents near the harbor were very concerned about the plans mentioned in the announcement.

A man had just finished a long wait at the administration hall and hurried back home near the harbor to share the good news with his family.

”Our application was approved; those at the administration hall agreed to delay this month’s loan payment, and our boat won’t be repossessed.”

”Oh~ Thank you, My Lord!” Upon hearing this, the woman’s tense nerves slightly relaxed, and she instinctively clasped her hands in prayer, tears of gratitude involuntarily streaming from her eyes.

This action doesn’t mean she’s a believer, but under the thousand-year influence of the Church’s rule, most people are accustomed to such expressions, evident from her words.

Nowadays, no one dares to engage with such matters, and privately, Hamlet’s residents are increasingly discontent with the Church, as rumors suggest they want to take everything away.

Due to targeted propaganda after the riot, that family’s deeds were celebrated. These ordinary people aren’t stupid or foolish; they have a scale in their hearts.

Like this family today, their reactions show they understand who truly brings them benefits.

Back then, Lance cleared out the big fish boss occupying the harbor and reclaimed all the fishing boats and assorted messes.

Then, to revitalize Hamlet’s fishing industry, he returned the boats through leasing and loans.

Like other fishermen, this family’s only skill was fishing, so they took a loan to buy a fishing boat, and the family tried to make a living through fishing.

Admittedly, the Lord offered them unprecedented treatment, and the stable situation and policy support allowed them to quickly overcome the most challenging phase.

Additionally, it was due to the family’s hard work and frugality. In just a bit more time, they’ll completely pay off the boat loan.

They even have some spare money to send their son to school to learn to read and write. They are striving hard so that the next generation can escape the hardship of spending most of their time drifting on the boat.
