Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 986: Chapter 555: Closing the Net (Part 2)

Only Hamlet tolerated for the greater good, we are the victims.

In the war of public opinion, you say it’s impossible without expert guidance...

Not only those loyalists are dissatisfied, to be honest, even the mendicant monk on the square is a bit surprised.

He has always used preaching as a pretext to probe.

Logically, gathering so many people, even a regular Lord wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen, let alone an army that fights without mercy.

He wants to provoke a confrontation between those people and the believers, preferably to have a few believers die to ignite the conflict, so he has a reason to act.

As for the deceased believers... consider it as a sacrifice to the Holy Light.

But unexpectedly, no one cares about him, the army is stationed on the coast, the sheriff just patrols indifferently, even helping them isolate the masses, with no intention of interfering.

He naturally hears those reasons, others might believe in the threat of monsters as a reason not to cause turmoil, but he, as someone who has lived for countless years, absolutely doesn’t believe it, just feels the unusual nature of the opponent.

Because he’s shaking their rule, which any ruler would absolutely not allow to happen.

It’s like if the monk knew what happened in Hamlet last night, he definitely wouldn’t take action, perhaps even hoping the monster destroys that heretic town.

Indeed, in the monk’s eyes, Hamlet is even more frightening than the Deep Diver.

Because no matter how strong the Deep Diver is, it cannot stay onshore for long, let alone rule humans.

But Hamlet’s development will severely impact the Church.

Can’t endure anymore, must overthrow Hamlet’s rule, destroy this place at all costs.

As for the cost...

If Baldwin were alright, he wouldn’t dare to be so arrogant, but now the only one who could oppose him is severely injured, and he just put on an act, not truly treating him, still confident in facing him.

In the evening, as the sun lowers its dazzling rays, time not only fails to calm Hamlet but intensifies the situation instead.

More and more people gather on the square to listen to the mendicant monk’s preaching, growing more agitated and excited under the influence of the supernatural power, shouts echo across the square.

The sun finally sets, countless torches rise, illuminating the hundreds gathered on the square, the mendicant monk finally stands up to respond to the believers.

”The disasters in Hamlet are all because the Lord abandoned the guidance of the Holy Light, a wicked dictator, he wants to drag you into corruption...”

In the mendicant monk’s speech, the source of all of Hamlet’s sufferings turns into Lance, the evil dictator, raising the magic wand high, and candles igniting without fire, illuminating the crowd on the square.

”A miracle!”

”Oh my Holy Light!”

”...”

The mendicant monk has led many riots, overthrowing one arrogant Lord after another who defied the Church, spreading Holy Light to dark places.

He is very experienced in this matter, and here is no exception!

So he chose this moment, the evening when the sun sets, reducing its impact on the Deep Diver, simultaneously stirring the populace’s emotions further, more convenient to demonstrate the power of the Holy Light.

After tonight, Hamlet will be destroyed by monsters, everything will be buried beneath the waves.

”Now grab your weapons and correct all this, end the evil Lord’s rule, return to the protection of the Holy Light!”

The Holy Light shining upon them sent their hot blood rushing to their brains, they didn’t even need the mendicant monk’s command, those believers would raise torches and weapons, shouting madly.

This scene was immediately felt by others on the square, but the sheriff and militia showed no intention to stop it, instead choosing to retreat, even dispersing those spectators from ship fleets in advance.

Tavern and inn doors directly closed, those stranded inside were filled with fear at this scene.

For believers plunged into frenzy, others’ tolerance and calmness were interpreted as weakness.

Simultaneously, Grendel’s indulgence made them even more frenzied, ultimately losing control.

From the high point of the government building, one could see the torches rising and shouts emanating from the central square.

After witnessing this scene, Grendel coldly uttered a sound.

”Seems they finally can’t hold back, time to close the net.”

After speaking, Grendel put away the strange eyeball she was playing with and turned away to head downstairs...

The believers initially gathered at the square flooded various streets, not daring to act against the monsters, yet embraced boldness in rioting.

They aimed their weapons at civilians, shouting fanatically, seemingly believing they were true victims, persecuted by the Lord.

Of course, everyone knows such things never happened, but these mobs need a reason to support their faith, to make them believe they are doing the right thing.

Some usually accumulating grievances even sought to use this opportunity to cause trouble.

”Open the door! Open it quickly!”

Faced with those crazed door-knockers, a mother inside the house desperately braced against the wooden door, as it was the last safe haven for her and her two children.

Until a raging fire ignited the wooden and straw-built longhouse, hearing the screams from inside, the believer outside appeared even more fanatical.

”Ha ha ha! Burn you evil ones!”

The madness seemed to escalate further.

Why does Lance oppose directly granting Bless to strengthen batches of elites?

This is the reason; when power is obtained without effort, the mindset becomes unstable.

Maybe the first day they want to be superheroes for justice, the second day turn into patriots, the third day they stop eating beef altogether.

So Lance is very cautious about Blessing; it shouldn’t be a reward but the accumulation through tempering.

The mendicant monk incites these mobs in the name of the Holy Light, committing violence in its name.

But the ”Holy Light” doesn’t mind, as the monk knows coercion is the reason the team grows, or perhaps these people inherently follow the crowd, the populace’s blind momentum seems unstoppable.

Show these disobedient ones some consequences to shake those hesitant and watching, telling them the result of not obeying the Holy Light!

But right at this moment, a shout like thunder rang out.

”What are you doing!”

Those believers, frenzied and ready to judge everyone, were inexplicably stunned into stillness.

Meanwhile, a figure emerged from the dark night.

However, the target was not these torch-bearing believers, but the house engulfed in flames.

Without any hesitation, the figure stormed through the fire-wrapped door.

No further reaction awaited, the next second the fire on the door suddenly exploded, as a figure rushed out from within.

When the figure paused, they saw both hands clutching a person each.

But the matter was far from over, the two just put down cried out.

”The child! My child is still inside!”

The figure didn’t hesitate at all, turning again to rush into the fire, but accidents always strike unexpectedly.

The house used a lot of wooden structures, especially the thatched roof and frame.

The fire burning up quickly ignited the roof, and in this short time, it directly collapsed down, blocking the door.

”Ah—!”

This scene caused the mother kneeling before the house to let out a torn scream, so piercing as to raise the hair on end.

Another teenage child stood there trembling, its small frame filled with fear.

But at this moment, there came a ”bang” as the wooden-framed mud wall shattered, a person burst through, striding toward the mother.

”It’s okay, just inhaled some smoke, will wake up later.” The hands now released, revealing a well-protected, even unburned mark-free child beneath.

A familiar yet alien voice came, the woman raised her head, seeing the slightly disheveled face, she couldn’t help but cry out with a sob.

”My Lord!”
