Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 963: Chapter 544: Twists and Turns

The peculiar thing about the supernatural power in this world is that it defies logic and cannot be contemplated with any normal reasoning.

Normally, the role of the protection ritual should be like that of Geralt, forming a shield to block attacks. However, here the ritual’s role turns out to be transferring damage.

The weapons of the Fishmen landed on the monks but had no effect, whereas the Candlelight Priest beside them inexplicably suffered severe damage, directly affecting him as though his armor hadn’t worked at all.

Logically, the ritual should indeed block the damage, but it brings backlash, meaning the damage appeared on the Priest.

Luckily, the damage was weakened by the ritual, and the Priest silently endured it, evidently accustomed to it.

Not to mention, to activate the protection ritual, the Candlelight Monk got slashed several times. Thanks to the Great Shield and Heavy Armor, which blocked them, he even took the opportunity to hammer a few away, rushing back to the Monk’s side to obliterate those Fishmen.

In this high-intensity battle, the blood even oozed out from the heavy armor dripping down, but the next moment the Monk raised his hand, and the Magic Wand emitted a light that shone upon him.

The sacred power acted upon the Candlelight Priest, instantly healing all the scars, and even overflowing.

The same source of power strengthened the Priest, and he didn’t suffer any aftereffects from serious injuries, swinging the Warhammer like a war god once again.

It seemed the two could fight indefinitely together.

Now Amanda understood why these two dared to come to Hamlet.

If it really turned into a fight, could she withstand that judgmental force?

Perhaps only the Lord could...

”Huh? That’s not right!” Sela suddenly seemed to realize something, exclaiming instinctively.

”What are you doing?” Amanda was speechless; shouting in this situation wasn’t ideal, as it might attract the Fishmen.

”The corpses, haven’t you noticed there aren’t many Fishmen corpses?”

Compared to focusing on the frontline battle, Sela was more concerned about the shoreline, wary of any Fishmen approaching while preparing to escape the moment an opportunity arose.

But looking so long, how could she sense anything amiss?

”Given the scale of this battle, Fishmen corpses should already be piling up along the shore, but look now.”

Amanda suddenly realized after Sela’s reminder, glancing at the row of collapsed Fishmen from gunshots, only for them to quickly be swallowed by the next wave charging forward.

It was only then that she noticed the fallen Fishmen quickly stood back up again.

Unless these Fishmen, like the Heretics, had self-healing abilities, but she had slain a few before and they clearly didn’t.

Hence, there was only one possibility...

”Among the Fishmen, a Spellcaster must be healing the injured.” Amanda voiced her thoughts, but as a Spellcaster herself she hadn’t detected the Fishmen’s spell, ”What’s the spellcasting medium? I can’t even sense it.”

”The sea wind! It’s the sea wind!” Sela clenched a controller, seemingly uncovering a clue with the ship’s power, which only made her more uneasy.

The sea wind and light are merely external manifestations of two types of power; what truly lies within is the real power.

The Fishmen Spellcasters could perform large-scale sea wind spells to heal batches of Fishmen, akin to the Mendicant Monk’s Holy Light.

Originally, combining the church’s Legendary with a Champion seemed foolproof, yet now hidden among the Fishmen was a Legendary Aberrant Demon Spellcaster. Just the thought made her scalp tingle.

Why was she so unlucky? How could Hamlet be such a cursed place?

If she could leave alive, she definitely wouldn’t return, regardless of the compensation.

Both knew they must identify the Fishmen’s Spellcaster, otherwise the outcome of the battle would be uncertain.

Only now, at night, it was extremely hard to pinpoint amid the dense Fishmen.

Situation isn’t right; Sela pondered whether to escape while the Mendicant Monk was drawing fire, but Amanda’s thoughts were starkly different.

”Damn it! The battle is too fierce, and the surrounding Spiritual Essence is as agitated as if about to revolt, making it utterly unclear.” Amanda attempted divination, but the tumultuous emotions from the war and the two formidable fighters’ duel disrupted the whole area’s Spiritual Essence, even she dared not intervene.

Spiritual pollution remains the greatest threat to human Spellcasters; not everyone can, like Alhazred, catch threads of fate amid intense combat, even manipulate destiny, albeit sometimes going wrong.

While Amanda couldn’t, someone potentially could. Thinking this, she glanced at Sela, who had just traced the sea wind.

”No way!” Sela obviously understood what Amanda intended, that didn’t mean she’d agree.

Sensing dispersed energies from the perimeter and the cost of tracing such power would differ vastly. Not to mention whether she had the strength to counteract the Fishmen’s Spellcaster.

Foremostly, she hadn’t been dragged into the fray yet; once she did, she must join, which didn’t align with Romani interests.

In truth, she was conserving strength, ready to flee at any moment.

Amanda’s expression was cryptic, about to speak when interrupted by an unexpected shift on the battlefield.

”Look quickly!”

Hamlet’s group weren’t fools; anyone could see the Mendicant Monk’s importance, let alone allow him to be surrounded by Fishmen.
