Our Family Has Fallen

Chapter 955: Chapter 540: Alarm Bell

Because it is arranged to set sail at dawn tomorrow, even though it’s already night, many Romani accompanying the ship are still selling small goods or performing in the square. This is their ancient way of survival.

At the same time, setting sail for this sailing ship requires many steps to prepare, and due to Hamlet’s regulations, someone must report to the dock management; otherwise, unnecessary trouble might occur.

Restrictions are everywhere, which causes Selai strong discomfort.

But what surprised Sela was Amanda soon appeared there. The sound of the long boots wrapped around her calves tapping on the deck intensified her unease, prompting an impatient greeting.

”Why are you here?”

”Don’t talk nonsense with me! What exactly is going on?”

She knows better than anyone when Romani people will run away and is unlikely to believe their ghost stories.

”I told you, I don’t know, I just feel uneasy.” Sela’s anxiety was undisguised; in Hamlet, she felt a loss of control.

”Hamlet is our cash cow. You know exactly how much you’re earning from this batch of goods and information. What’s the point of hiding it from me now?”

Mentioning money, even Sela regained some rationality, but if she knew, she wouldn’t be pressured by the sudden inspiration now affecting her emotions.

”I really don’t know; it’s just a kind of inexplicable unease, you should understand.”

This also made Amanda fall silent.

Different from Alhazred, who tries to change fate, Romani people prefer to follow fate, and this brings them omens of fate, even allowing them to glimpse fragments of the future.

Feelings ordinary people might disregard are taken seriously among Romani Transcendents; it’s their gift.

Amanda can’t even remember how many times this burst of ”inspiration” has saved her.

But it’s also a curse; this ability entangles anxiety and suspicion in their minds. Lack of security is their usual psychological state, hard to calm.

Amanda understands, so she takes it more seriously.

But it’s apparent that Sela is finding it difficult to capture flashes of inspiration again, though she has to try.

”You want to know what it is too, right?” Amanda bluntly extended her hand to Sela, ”Lend it to me.”

Sela naturally understands what Amanda wants, but this thing is power. Handing it over is undoubtedly...

”I could even give up a leadership position; these things mean nothing to me.”

Seemingly perceiving Sela’s resistance, Amanda’s one sentence dismantled her defensive mindset.

”Be careful; things here are too terrifying.” Sela handed over the Crystal Ball with a complex expression, not forgetting to warn her.

Amanda said nothing, just nodded slightly, then grasped the Crystal Ball in her hand, slowly closing her eyes.

As the most gifted Seeker of Omens, Amanda knows all about the organization’s objects and how to use this ”key.”

Using the power brought by this key, Amanda triggered a powerful ritual. The eerie power instantly awakened her dormant gift, her brain activated by a sensation like being electrified.

Unlike Sela’s feeling of a small boat in a storm, though Amanda was not in good shape, the strong inspiration strengthened by the ritual glimpsed through the chaos——

The dark water surface, under the surging currents are countless shadows, and these unseen things are moving toward Hamlet...

In reality, Amanda suddenly opened her eyes, even her weathered soul trembled somewhat. Fortunately, because she was mentally prepared, she didn’t react as exaggeratedly as Sela.

But this reaction was also caught by Sela, who was also a Romani, urgently interrogating.

”What’s the situation exactly?”

”Can’t escape...” Amanda’s expression was wooden, calm to the point of stiffness.

”What?” Sela didn’t understand, or she knew but was unwilling to accept, ”You better explain clearly!”

”The sea is full of monsters, though I wish you’d leave quickly and attract some.” Amanda had no desire to waste words with her, handing the Crystal Ball back, ”But our deal isn’t over, so I’ll advise you: once the ship is out at sea, it’s just a sitting duck. Staying here at the dock is the only way.”

Too lazy to utter a second sentence, Amanda swiftly left; she needed to awaken Hamlet.

Through multiple declarations of loyalty, she was accepted into Hamlet’s inner circle by the Lord, receiving many stories about Hamlet from Lance.

She understood the steadfastness of this man, and of course, the perilous situation Hamlet faces.

Especially now, as the Lord conducts significant operations to clear the heretics entrenched in the wilderness, those attacking at this moment could only be evil cult forces.

As for what those shadows are, it doesn’t matter; the Evil God’s control is not necessarily limited to humans, particularly her knowledge of monsters modified by the Sect of Ascension having gone through the Beast Lair.

If it were under normal circumstances, Hamlet’s army and that man would crush all enemies. She only needed to follow by Lance’s side.

But now, both the army and that man are deployed elsewhere, leaving Hamlet in an awkward position.
