I AM the Football Star

Chapter 267: Chapter 90: This King of the Pitch Is Mine

Of course, after witnessing the craziness of Lu Yang, Becher’s didn’t really want to become Lu Yang’s enemy.

It’s too terrifying.

Near the edge of the penalty area, Talista stood with his hands on his hips, watching the celebrating San Remo players, shaking his head helplessly.

This is Lu Yang.

Damn it!

That feeling really came again!

Another one of those unbelievable goals.

Talista took a deep breath and looked up at the sky.

If all along he thought no one could stop him from achieving victory.

Could Lu Yang be sent by God?

Is Lu Yang the Son of God?

Is it true that I can’t defeat Lu Yang?

Pah!

Talista spat.

He doesn’t believe it!

Screw the Son of God!

...

The match resumed.

The score on the field was one to one.

After being equalized, Chievo started a fierce attack.

They wanted a win.

But having defended for most of the match, suddenly changing the rhythm from defense to offense was still too difficult.

Defense and offense require completely different footwork.

The former requires toughness, destruction, and disregard for consequences because a tackle is the final action, no need to think about what comes after the tackle.

The latter requires agility and control, holding back strength for the next move, after beating one person you need to control the ball to continue forward or pass, shoot.

So even though Chievo’s midfield had the advantage, they didn’t organize any good attacks.

Their passes were slightly off, failing to create good chances.

In contrast, Becher’s started passing frequently to Lu Yang, Versachi, Sogel, and others after breaking through.

Chievo’s traps and restrictions against him broke down by themselves.

However, Becher’s change came a bit too late.

The whole match had reached the last few minutes, Becher’s had expended too much energy earlier, his breakthroughs were not as sharp as in the first half.

This made him resentful for the first time for not playing like this from the start.

Although this style was more supportive of teammates and lacked star quality, it...it actually made Becher’s himself feel a lot more relaxed.

After being the core for too long, sometimes playing a supporting role can be quite comfortable.

On the sidelines, Sotu and Old Tom were preparing for extra time.

They predicted there wouldn’t be more changes within ninety minutes.

Both sides were cautious and didn’t want to risk getting killed at the last moment.

”It’s not good for us, our players have played extra time twice in cup matches already, if we do it again this time, it will be the third consecutive time.” Old Tom felt sad for the players’ stamina.

”It’s unavoidable,” Sotu was also worried, as the pressure of the schedule increased towards the second half of the season.

Cup matches are too exhausting for the players.

Losing a league match doesn’t matter, there are still thirty or forty matches.

But losing a cup match, and you lose everything.

It’s not about importance, this knockout environment is extremely stimulating to the players, making both sides unconsciously put in more energy and effort, even if the match itself doesn’t mean much to one party.

That’s why many teams don’t want to play cup matches, they start off indifferent, but later stages become hard to handle, stuck in a dilemma.

But the more it goes on, the more they can’t give up, after all, they’ve already put in so much effort.

”Becher’s is tired,” Old Tom said. ”In extra time, Belletti will replace him, right? And Palacios is struggling today, Rondo can come on to ensure defensive quality.”

Today’s starter was Camihong, giving Rondo some rare rest time.

Camihong’s signing has been quite successful.

”Yes,” Sotu confirmed Old Tom’s substitution plan, shaking his head. ”Becher’s isn’t as tough as I imagined. Facing the rampaging Lu Yang, he ultimately chose to follow his heart. It seems Lu Yang’s first internal team crisis has been completely resolved.”

”It’s a valuable experience for him.”

Old Tom agreed with Sotu’s assessment.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that during this match Becher’s almost came to blows with Lu Yang, but actually, Becher’s changed after that conflict.

What truly defines a tough guy with courage?

It’s not about how much he talks.

It’s not about how arrogant he is usually.

It’s about the choices he makes in truly critical moments, even between life and death.

Some men live timidly all their lives, but when their wife and children are threatened, they step up to fight against bad guys far stronger than themselves, who would dare say such a man doesn’t have courage?

Some people usually act bossy and walk arrogantly, but when they face a deadly disaster, their first reaction is to abandon their wife and children to escape alone, even after collecting themselves they still dare not go back to fetch their wife and children.

They’re not afraid of their wife and children being mad, but afraid of remaining dangers and threats.

Becher’s has a superstar temper, but when he truly faced the ’hegemony’, he didn’t dare to resist at all.

If it were Sotu, today’s match wouldn’t even have continued, he would have immediately clashed with Lu Yang, gotten into a fight, and both would have been sent off with red cards, then continued fighting back in the dressing room.

Who’s scared is the grandson!

But what did Becher’s do?

He was afraid!

He actively passed the ball to Lu Yang afterward.

He contributed quite a bit to that goal.

But was it because he had a broader view?

No, definitely not.

He was simply afraid!
