I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 440: Chapter 261_3

Just continuously moved through the crowd, consistently offering guidance.

He could only do his best.

During the inspection, he also identified a few individuals who appeared to have some aptitude for close combat, both male and female, mostly young boys and girls.

It turned out that those strong adults who had been farming for years were more clumsy in their movements.

He silently noted them down.

Then let everyone train for a while longer.

Afterwards, he selected a few saplings suitable for training in the three basic skills based on his observation and offered targeted advice.

The village chief nearby also noticed them, and from his notes, he was very clear that those named by Gauss were truly capable of becoming something noteworthy.

With limited time, Gauss didn’t waste any.

Then he and his teammates conducted other tests and training for the crowd.

Archery talent, sensing magic, priest, Druid talent, methods for making traps and tools....

As dusk fell.

Many people on the field were already sitting on the ground gasping for breath.

This whole set was too exhausting.

Among those named by Gauss, despite their fatigue, there was an uncontrollable excitement on their faces, while most of those who had not been named from start to finish were relatively disappointed.

Although Gauss also said that as long as one practiced diligently, anyone could potentially master a skill, the probability was certainly not as high as those with talent.

The next day, Gauss and the others conducted more in-depth training.

They brought many basic skill books with them this time.

[Vertical Slash][Sweep][Diagonal Cut]Although through his teaching, one could theoretically reach an entry level with extensive practice, for ordinary people it was best to have a skill book. Each of these skill books, ranging from one silver coin to over a dozen silver coins, was provided by the Adventurer’s Guild.

Aaliyah also had basic skills corresponding to her own profession.

Though the quantity was large, considering the many villages to be passed through, it was relatively limited.

This was also why Gauss conducted preliminary screening the day before.

Although the level of difficulty was easy for Gauss, time was still quite tight, and he couldn’t stay long in a village.

Besides selecting those with talent and teaching skills, he also needed his own practice time, leading people to eliminate demons and teaching through real combat.

Each village could be stayed in for only a few days, usually no more than a week.

Advanced training continued.

Gauss didn’t stop the villagers eager to further learn from coming to observe.

However, the number of people on the second day was noticeably fewer.

But with Gauss’s announcement, the training ground quickly became bustling with activity.

”Hah!”

”Hah!”

They struck the wooden stakes with their training weapons.

The glaring sunlight shone on their faces, sweat pouring down like beans, yet no one complained; on the contrary, everyone was full of energy.

Among those receiving skill training, the largest number was in close combat skills, there were six of them.

The rest included training in archery, one attempting to practice magic, one attempting to practice Druid divine art, but as for a priest, this village seemed to have no talents for it.

Of course, this was only a preliminary test, Gauss and others couldn’t ensure complete accuracy.

They merely infused their profession-related power into the villagers’ bodies, to sense their affinity with the respective power.

This method wasn’t very accurate, but it was the best they could do.

Among the others observing, many learned some crafting techniques.

After simply guiding the villagers learning close combat skills, teaching them how to understand skill books and letting them train independently, Gauss went to the only sapling in the village who might possess a talent for magic.

She was a very small girl named Rhine.

Only about seven or eight years old.

Golden hair, very fair skin, even so fair that it seemed a bit sickly.

Wearing a set of washed-out white linen clothes, clearly from an ordinary family.

But after Gauss gave her a simple check, he didn’t sense any disease within her body.

At most, her vitality was a bit weak, but this wasn’t considered an illness for a child.

Seeing Gauss approach, the little girl looked up at him with bright eyes.

”Hello, Rhine.”

”Gao... Gauss... sir, hello.” Rhine timidly greeted.

Obviously, after going back home last night, her family must have emphasized the importance of Gauss’s guidance.

Gauss was a Mage, and the leader of this team, with a look seemingly too good to be true, for many villagers, felt like an unattainably high figure.

Girl Rhine was naturally no exception.

Sir, huh...

Gauss shook his head.

This was the first time someone called him that.

He originally wanted to say that he was just here to teach some skills and would leave in a few days, not deserving of the teacher’s title.

But seeing the nervous look in the eyes of the girl who reached only up to his waist, he thought for a moment and decided not to correct her.

From an objective perspective, he indeed changed the fate of this little mushroom head in front of him.

If he had not come, or not chosen her, she might have just found someone to marry in the village or a nearby village after a few years, living an ordinary life as a village woman.

But now everything had changed.

This was all arranged by fate.

He smiled and nodded, reaching out to pat her head.

”Shall we start learning magic?”

”Okay, please guide me.”

He took out some 0th Ring Tricks.

[Mage’s Hand][Acid Splash][Flaming Arrow][Electric Claw][Communication Technique]...

”You need to choose one of them.”

”Sir.... I can’t understand.” Rhine hesitated for a moment, then honestly admitted.

”It’s okay, this is Mage’s Hand, its effect is....” Gauss patiently explained to her.

Perhaps reminded of the time he first set foot on the road of being an adventurer, mixed feelings flooded his heart.

”Sir, which one did you choose at first?” Perhaps sensing Gauss’s warmth, Rhine spoke more fluently.

”Mage’s Hand.”

To be precise, it wasn’t a choice, but it was indeed his first trick.

”Then, I want to learn this too.” Girl Rhine bravely said.

Gauss hesitated a bit, then looked at Rhine.

According to the procedure, he should give the choice to the trainee, but as an instructor, he inevitably had his own thoughts.

Despite the great versatility of Mage’s Hand, was it really suitable for a young girl who wasn’t yet able to protect herself?

Mage’s Hand wouldn’t help her take a goblin’s life when she faced one.

Whereas other offensive tricks could achieve that.

Also, considering the resources available to her, she probably wouldn’t have the resources or energy to master a second trick for quite some time, making her first trick choice crucial.

Not everyone had such powerful talent as he did.

”But this spell isn’t suitable for you, I suggest choosing an attack-type trick.” Gauss then advised.

”Then I’ll choose.... Flaming Arrow.” Rhine, after a moment of hesitation, made her choice.

By chance, she chose a trick that Gauss already knew.

Although, due to the teaching role this time, Gauss had temporarily learned other offensive tricks as well, his proficiency was still unmatched with Flaming Arrow.

”Is that okay?”

”Of course it is.” Gauss smiled. ”Let’s get started.”

”Yes, sir.”

In the morning sunlight, Gauss began explaining the content of Flaming Arrow word by word to Rhine.

Perhaps due to Gauss’s profound understanding of Flaming Arrow, or perhaps because of Rhine’s inherent talent, the explanation process was smoother than Gauss had expected.

Soon, the girl, although seemingly naive, grasped the key points of the Flaming Arrow.
